No idea if this has already been asked (if it is, lock/merge/delete/watever, and sorry for the inconvenience tulz).

Ok, so I haven't been able to try out the new update, so what happens to the Galatine.

It's my precious, and now that charge attacks are gone, what will it be used for?

I've found it to be extremely effective at blasting through things. I managed to oneshot Nef Anyo earlier, using a rank 13 Galatine with Pressure Point and Killing Blow at 120% and 100% respectively.

It's the best container opener in the game.  From initial reports, it has the same damage as the Fang Prime with none of the speed, so basically it's worthless now.

It has a wide swing arc and each hit done in a swing counts towards your combo counter. Move into a crowd and that counter builds up fast.

DE giveth and DE taketh away... we gain some (largely useless) combos and lost all charge attacks.  Hmmmmmm.... hmmmmmmmm...

However, regardless of the fact that I think melee 2.0 is a pretty huge misfire, within the context of the current melee system the galatine is still a great weapon, one of the best, and I predict people will re-discover this shortly.

Does it do splatter damage numbers like it used to?  No.  However, it has a very fast attack speed (something really really important right now after the fury nerf) and a HUGE aoe swing.  All melee weapons are dealing more damage overall and the galatine is one of the easiest weapons for building combo numbers. Slide-spin attacks are kind of like the new charge attack, and the galatine has an enormous AOE with this attack and a decent ground slam.  Lastly, the galatine has a mid-level crit chance, a good crit damage bonus and near top-tier proc chance - these properties combined with such a fast attack speed and huge aoe make for one excellent weapon.

In short, the Galatine's new roll is as a rapid-sweeping mob clearer - probably the ultimate weapon to use when surrounded by infested mobs.

I have no combo mods or anything and I do not miss the charge attack. The Galatine seems to be a bit better to me. I was on Ceres on a wave 20 something and I was dropping guys in one hit. The heavies were being cut down fair enough. The one thing that is weird is that when you equip the Galatine is that you hold it with one hand. Looks awkward.

Let me introduce you to my friend, Cleaving Whirlwind.

Looks a bit daft how you equip the weapons, holding it in a single hand straight up, the various stances need to include the default holding positions for each weapon ie: like an actual stance, high guard, low guard etc.

Orthos Prime+Reach+Pressure Point+Fury+Killing Blow+reflex coil+focus energy+other mods to eat up remaining points, I can sweep entire cities clean in a single slide attack.

Quit crying about Galatine (Gelatin), it's not the end of the world. There are far more weapons out there and quite a few melee weapons have become viable now. Besides, you can copter with more weapons now, like the machete for example.

Nuuuu, eh, I think I'll just try it out for the lulz.

I'm just disappointed that I wasted 5 formas or so on it.

Anyways, at least I had dual ichors along with other melees in reserve.

WF forumites are so cool.

Not best weapon in game? = worthless

Big slow sword just like it has always been.

Yeah that's the general attitude around here alright. It's also why you see the same loadouts again and again. It gets to the point where it's just extreme overkill vs. a whole lot of overkill, at that point is it worth the argument? Edited by NevanChambers

The Galatine was my main Melee since Day 1. I'm going to miss that epic charge and cutting 8 people in half with one fatal swing of pure Galatine. Screw channeling, charge was the better mechanic.

the galatine was my first good dps weapon. I was having trouble doing T1 void missions, then I got the galatine. I go in for T3, see 3 heavies together, use blind. I get really close and charge. then joy, just look at them fly. one shot! just look at those big numbers.

looking at that video now just makes me want to cry.

even if some one finds a way to do decent damage with it. it was the charge that I loved.

rip galatine.

I will always remember the good times we spend getting back to those damn ancients.

Cleaving Whirlwind with the proper mods makes this thing a monster against plenty of enemy types. The amount of multihit (plus channeling on top of it) can racket up huge amounts of damage on more enemies than most weapons can reach.

Galatine is far from dead. Just give it time.
