This is a pipe dream, but I hope that we could get an animation revamp for the Nikana.

I have no problems with the first swing being a one handed 'quick draw' (Iajutsu), but the remaining attacks should be two handed.  It's more 'authentic' to me.  I like the resheathing with one hand, though, that's cool.

I like the idea behind it, but the one handed swing is too Japanese Love for FENCING!  Which is very anime, but not very fantasy ninja.

Thoughts?

Add another stance mod for two-handed animations, problem solved.

No need for revamps.

Or add a rapier and use that stance mod.

I agree to OP. It doesn't feel like a katana at all.

So I did some research and found out about the wakizashi. It seems that our Tranquil Cleave combos are more suited for it.

Hmmm w/c tells me....... make a new katana, let the nikana be a wakizashi xD

The default animations for the Katana seem awkward and choppy, they don't feel as fluid as the sword animations do (which are pretty cool!). Just the same horizontal chopping every time.

Did you feel like sweeping the floor with a stick? :|

I thought stances didn't change animations, but if they do, then yes, I'd like a second or third animation set that focuses on two handed grips on Long Swords and/or Nikana.

But I will still craft one, just on the hope that they will do a 'Kenjutsu' style down the road.

Idle stance sheathing the Nikana is horrible.

Remember back in the days (Melee 1.0), and we used to slash downwards two-handed with longswords?

One the first strike only, the next two were silly, silly, silly one handed swings.

I was hoping tranquil cleave would focus on quick, clean two handed cuts after an initial iajutsu style opener. If they make the second stance for the Nikana along these lines, I'll be one happy space ninja.

I was also disappointed in the Nikana animations as well, it just feels like I'm beating someone with a stick while I have a broken arm, it just doesn't flow well either due to the very obvious pause in each animation making it feel. once again, like a beating stick more than a Katana

Personally I would also like to see a stance with animations that use both hands, but first I would like to see some real iaido attacks in the tranquil cleave stance.. I mean really? stabbing the enemy with the Breathless Lunge combo?

Well, people wanted rapier fencing.  I guess you'll just have to do it with the Nikana.

[Added]Actually, Iaido techniques have the FIRST strike one handed, the rest of the attacks are done in both hands, then you sheath the blade, so technically, what I wanted, is the same thing you want.

That's the easy way out. The appropriate way in my opinion would be to keep working on the current stance so it actually looks proper, and not snappy and unskilled. Hek, Ryu Hayabusa has lots of attacks with one hand, but his moves are smooth and has better form, weight and impact.

DE could also look at Soul Calibur's Mitsurugi for a mix of realism and crazy unrealistic moves that still has decent form.

I know they worked hard to deliver these animations, but I think too many liberties have been taken. It's always better to know your sources fully before going crazy with it. One cannot bend the rules without the wisdom and knowledge of it first.

This doesn't just apply to the katana. Great swords and axes should have separated animations.

I don't think that's the way to go about it. If the animations are going to be re-done, I think a new stance is the appropriate course of action. There is nothing wrong with these animations. The fact that it's a Katana doesn't mean it has to be used like it was a couple of thousand years ago.

DE is free to take all the liberties with the animations they want, really. It's a Sci-Fi game in the future.

Also, the Katana's only have one stance, and some users may like the current animations as they are, so providing another choice would be better than removing what they like.

The issue I have with the current animations is the lack of feasibility of it.  It's a long hilted weapon, you need more than just one hand on the grip.  Not to mention that it looks a bit off.
