NegimaSonic Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Let me start by saying I'm not here to prove what is DPS king or anything like that, nor do I have every channeling mod,etc etc. But I've seen a lot of attempts to guess what channeling damage would do so here's my way.*Channeling increases a weapon's damage by 1.5. This is well known. But I'd like to draw attention to the other part of this, combos.*Channeling actually skips 1 level of a combo by default. Every additional 100% added to that skips another level. Aka adding 100% channeling, is the equivalent of a normal attack on a 2x combo, but effective on the first hit. Channeling is basically a toggle combo modifier.*Every damage mod** affects channeling, so good old Pressure Point is great, along with elements of course and "Smite" if you feel like faction specific damage(won't help against corrupted though according to the wiki). And things like Rending Strike do as well but you have to be aware of the weapons base stats before considering that a worthy addition. **I didn't try criticalThat's basically it for the simple version. Going deeper, I'd like to make sure everyone also sees this topic from Kuryaka for another view on things and a variety of tests.----------------------------------------------------------So as mentioned above, channeling skips levels and can be considered a combo modifier. Say if a weapon does 100 damage by default(1x). Then it will do 150 on a 1.5x combo. 200 on a 2x combo. 250 on a 2.5x combo etc.But channeling "skips" ahead one level.150(1x)|200(1.5x)|250(2x)|300(2.5x)Every additional 100% of channeling added, "skips" to the next .5 modifier. So if you have +100% it'd be like this:200(1x)|250(1.5x)|300(2x)|350(2.5x)or +200%250(1x)|300(1.5x)|350(2x)|400(2.5x)[note the position of the bolded 250]Channeling can potentially allow you to basically start on a 2.5x combo or higher from the first blow. However, here's the kicker, channeling is a flat increase during combos. Because the damage added from combos is based on the base damage of the weapon. So in this case, even though your first hit could be 250 damage when channeled, when you get to the 2.5x modifier at 400 damage while channeling, you will see that damage only increased by 150 because that's exactly how much it would increase by if you didn't channel at all.So it does NOT increase your channeling damage by what the multiplier says compared to base channeling damage. Now I can't say whether this is worth it or not but hopefully this gives another view on whether it is "worth it" or not. Or if you're just curious as to knowing how much damage you would do if you reached the next level in a multiplier as an alternative to using a calculator. There's still a lot I don't know but I wanted to draw attention to that topic in case there are other things to add. Or if I made some serious errors myself. However, I'm writing this before bed so nothing else to add lol.
