I'm Confused With Channeling.

Question

Posted

Does channeling effectiveness vary weapon to weapon?

If not, then is it not only a matter of time before someone figures out numbers on channeling mods and unveils the melee meta game?

What does channeling really even do?

Why do I need so many mods to channel effectively?

Without mods, channeling seems to really only be for looks, what am I missing?

Melee's been a bit of a letdown. It's much better than the alternative! except now there's just something else off about the melee system.

Mind you, I've only played with hammers so far since those are the only stances I've found. The lack of combos on them is probably the source of this offputting feeling. That, and no more charge attacks. Really, REALLY, disappointing on weapons like the jat kittag.

Glaive is awkward as hell when you are holding it. I really would like a 'stance' card that let's me hold the glaive and a secondary weapon at the same time. You know, like Dark Sector.

- It's the same across all melee weapons. When active, it adds +50% total damage (unmodded).

- The +50% multiplier is affected by mods. For example, a Killing Blow that says +100% damage will give your weapon a channeling multiplier of (50% + (100% of 50%)) = +100%.

- The system is set up so that if you run mainly damage mods you can build either for channeling (low unchanneled damage, maximum channeled damage) or regular hits (high unchanneled / quick-melee damage, but channeled damage isn't as high as it could be). If you want to put on some utility mods such as Fury and Life Strike, you're generally going to have to pick one or the other, or go for a balanced build.

What does channeling really even do?

-Boosts damage by a base of 50% and drains energy for each enemy hit. Enemies killed with disintegrate.

Why do I need so many mods to channel effectively?

-Similar to charge attacks.

-not much except for energy drain and 50% damage. There is a mod called 'life strike' that returns 5-20% of damage you dealt and returns it as health but is capped by enemy's max hp.

Try a few more weapons and stances. My personal favorite are galatine with cleaving whirlwind, dual swords with swirling tiger, and iron phoenix with single swords.

Do I need to be channeling to execute a finisher?

nope, finishers will occur when the enemy is downed, no channeling needed!

parrying will only happen while channeling, though (blocking and channeling at the same time, actually)

the straight 50% damage boost would  be a lot more obvious (and we wouldn't have had to figure that out for ourselves) if DE put channeling stats in the arsenal screen. then you could see things like quickening and true punishment actually affect your stats

life strike is a good reason to use channeling, though. quite helpful on long missions without a healer
