(PSN)Emtee1369 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 My apologies if this is in the wrong place but I though this would be the best place to post this. So I was thinking the other day of a few new weapon types that could be added to the game. All of which would probably need their own stances to go with them but, my ideas were Nunchuka (single and dual) and Tonfas (again both single and dual). I am curious as to what the rest of the forum may think of these ideas so please leave your comments and feedback and who knows maybe they'll turn up in warframe in the future. My apologies if these have already been suggested in any previous posts.
Dtexas Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I think Tonfas won a weapon design contest awhile back and are being worked on now. I may be wrong.
Othergrunty Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) Call me lazy but i recently thought about an alternative to expand the arsenal without introducing more and more completely new weapons, by using skins to create modificated versions of existing weapons, creating sidegrades. Please read my post completely before adressing that something like this allready existed in some way. In the early open beta phase, DE was allready working with something similar to this, as we can see in the Brokk Hammer and Dagger Axe skins. However as told in a livestream (i think it was Geoff), they stopped this idea, because they were essentialy wasting entirely new weapon designs for allready existing weapons with only minor changes in performance (-5% speed/+20% charge damage). This is understandable. Since it really meant an entire new weapon would not exist. However! What if instead of modifications skins being entirely new weapons they would simply change the appearance of the existing gun into a new but identical shape, combined with heavily changed stats? Essentialy having the skin be modification parts, ala the SCAR type rifle were you can change chambering and barrel length with only a few moves. EXAMPLE: Take the Braton, which is more or less an automatic carbine rather than a full blown rifle. Now imagine DE introduces the "modification skins" i'm talking about, that allows you to change it into a full rifle version. With this skin the Braton model recieves an extended front section and barrel, some heat sink style openings in the casing and the butt section is extended and flattend. Combined with this visual changes the ammo is reduced by 15 shots, the firing speed is reduced a bit too, but the damage is increased to 9 in all three types, the reload speed is reduced and it gets a meatier sound. Now you got yourself the Braton Model R. Similar they could introduce an SMG mode skin. Now the Braton gets casing removed, it gets a visual ammo drum and top railing is removed. This comes with a decrease in damage to 4 on all damage types and longer reload. But also with an increased crit rate and larger magazine. Now you got yourself a Braton Model S(MG). DIFFERENT EXAMPLE: Take the Skana. One skin could change it into a short sword style skana (like the one on the dual Skana) increasing speed and crit rate in enchange for base damage. Or another skin could change it more towards a fencing saber style that changes the damage from slash to puncture. OVERALL: By only creating modifications of allready existing models, rather than completely new models, DE would not have the old problem of letting unique designs go to waste. Meanwhile however they would be able to offer more customization options to the players and making allready existing weapons more attractive. Edited May 19, 2014 by Othergrunty
ValhaHazred Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Snip Honestly that doesn't sound very good. I'd prefer to wait a week or two to get a new interesting gun than get dozens of variation skins of the same boring guns. DE has been releasing weapons with lots of interesting and new mechanics lately and that's a far better state of affairs IMO.

DE has been releasing weapons with lots of interesting and new mechanics lately and that's a far better state of affairs IMO. Good point. Was just a quick suggestion. Interesting new mechanics? You mean basic concept weapons which use new fancier animations? Or weapons which use unusual mechanics like the electro kunai? Well the problem with the former is that they are just gimicky while still being normal guns and the later are problematic because most of the time just shooting the enemy with a powerfull gun remains more effective, so unless you play alone the boring Soma user will just kill all your targets you tried to use your fancy explosive electro kunai on. The later is a problem in general because the game has become less Co-op and more competition about who can kill enemies quicker in order to get to actualy use their weapons. Sorry for going a bit off top there, nevermind, carry on with weapon ideas.
SeargantHaztagazpacho Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 How about a gun that shoots bursts of compressed air, enemies take very little damage from the burst, but they are sent flying. Based on how far they fly, and what they hit they take damage. The burst strength is determined by how long you charge it.

A fun idea but more or less pointless for Warframe. You are essentialy giving up one of your weapons spots for a weapon that does the same as what a simply jump move can allready do (jump+forward+crouching in mid air towards an enemy). In addition to that your team mates will just shoot or hack the guy into pieces before you can have finished charging up your, or they will hate you for knocking the enemy around they were just about to hit with their paris prime. However i could see it being a usefull secondary firing mode. For example lets imagine they make an "Ice Launcher". Essentialy a gun that creates razor sharp ice shrapnells and uses a high pressure mechanism to fire them in shotgun fashion. Since it's a close combat weapon it would not necessarily need the fine aiming (personaly i still aim down sight with my shotgun a lot), so instead of it, the gun could have a secondary firing mode in which it only fires the high pressure burst to knock back enemies. Though there would be the problem that one could argue it makes Banshee's 1 power redundant. Edited May 20, 2014 by Othergrunty
