Is Warframe Actually A Beta?

Recommended Posts

Yes, it's a beta. Don't be fooled by bitter/ignorant veterans saying otherwise.

Playable, broken, only has the core of the game = Alpha

Playable, buggy, major overhauls and lacks some parts of the planned "Release Version" = Beta

(Only difference between Closed and Open Beta is accessibility.)

Does the Beta flag excuse The Developers when they manage to break the game with an update? No, it doesn't. Betas are buggy, not broken.

That of course doesn't mean these things won't happen when dealing with major overhauls.

Do Betas have a set time limit after which they stop being a Beta automatically? No.

People these days don't understand (or refuse to accept) the sentence: "When it's ready."

Internet anonymity seems to encourage self-entitlement and ignorant complaining.

Will people stop reiterating this argument? Will the sun stop shining?

Agreed with everything except "ignorant complaining"

The "complaints" I've seen on these forums are usually valid and often intelligent.

There's always that oddball guy with broken english screaming why why why but for the most part we're not ignorant :3

Well it depends where on the forums you end up. I see a lot of people going All-Caps about changes without testing said changes first.

Not saying everyone's like this. It's just a by-product of some factors combined with anonymity which gives the assurance that no one's going to know who the person really is anyway.

Admittedly that was too much on my part.

It hasn't been a Beta for a long time.

Its the go-to phrase favored by many players to use when an argument is brought up, but DE themselves rarely use the term "Beta".

From the loading screen top right "OPEN BETA", so yes, it is very much still "Beta", the game in it's current state does not contain all the mechanics the Devs think are needed for the game they want to make, hence "Beta"

However...

DE are self-publishing, this is a _huge_ thing and it generally _very_ tough for a developer house to do, hence they need a revenue stream _while_ developing. Think of it as open development or as a kickstarter with in-game rewards. Without this style of development they would have needed several million up-front to even begin development. Hence why they got the game to a playable-but-not-complete state and opened it up.

If you consider things like Google Maps or Websearch in beta because technically Google still says they're beta, then yes, it's a beta.

If not, then no, it's not.  It's often used as an excuse for massive untested changes and 'mistakes' in the loot tables, but there's little that's beta about it.

That's how beta in online gaming works, in fact it'll never enter alpha phase. Content of the game are never fixed and always expanding till the server shutdown. Other game even change the engine to make their game up to date to current graphics.

Most of the game is "placeholder." Look at any of the bosses that haven't been redone. Look at how some planets have unique tilesets and others don't. Look at how the codex has three entries for "Corpus Scout" that aren't anywhere in the game. Look at Nightmare mode, look at conclaves, look at the end mission screen. The game works, it's playable, it's even fun sometimes, but it's not done. DE hasn't gotten it to the point where they would sell it at a Gamestop, not that it will cost money or be sold in a box, but you know what I mean, hopefully.

They're not done enough with it to call it a full release. It's getting core content and systems, not polish and extra content. It still needs Focus, Proxy War, the quest system, a ton of other things before it will be "done"

Until it's "done" it's in "beta"

Alpha comes before beta, not after. It usually goes

pre-alpha, friends and family alpha, alpha, closed beta, open beta, release, expansion, server shutdown

Some steps are skipped depending on the developer, of course.

Cash shop and events make me think otherwise. I think they're using the beta tag to save themselves from some heat, that's just me though.

No to mention the big move with Sony. I'm honestly pretty amazed with as many problems as this game has, that they would take such a big step. Only thing that feels beta about it is how hollow it is, hoping that changes this year.

they did that several updates ago. One Wednesday was solid updates, and no adds of any kind. They did stop for awhile and go solid fixes. Its just they have SEVERAL TEAMS doing different jobs. If they stopped to work only on fixes then they would have to lay off a whole bunch of people working on the lore, and the rest of the new stuff because apparently you just want them to stop adding things.

Not to mention the new content in form of reinforcements is needed, since mastery is eventually going up to MR30. We're gonna need a looot of affinity.

OP, please use the search function.  yes it kind of sucks but this has been debated ad naseum.  DE has stated that the game is in open Beta.  It says open beta on several different websites as well as steam.  Individual players all debate the term Beta as they each have differing terms of what constitutes beta.  Officially according to DE this game is in beta no matter anyone's opinion on the matter and will be in beta until DE officially states otherwise.
