There has been a discussion between my friends and i over the usefulness of elemental damage on our boltor prime. as i use the amprex with a base of electricity i know that elemental is useful on the amprex. but when we come to boltor prime is elemental worth equipping? We seem to feel our elemental damage mods arent applying when we shoot. does our elemental damage only apply when a status happens? And should we switch up our Builds to pure puncture build over elemental? And can you please try and support answer with stats.

Elemental damage always applies as an addition to your total damage. Only Status Effects apply when Status procs. 

 

So yes, elemental damage will always boost your Boltor Prime damage.

 

As for stats calculation - use this: http://warframe-builder.com/Primary_Weapons/Builder/Boltor_prime

It can even show you how much damage certain build would deal to a certain faction.

the reason we are so comfused is that my boltor will do 639.5 viral damage and our base damage of around 800. but when we shoot the heavys we get only our base damage numbers instead of 1400 damage. are you able to explain why this happen?

Puncture, Slash and Impact damagemods are usually not worth it on Rifles as their values are worthless in comparison to elemental mods and furthermore they use their respective damage as base for their calculations. On the other hand, Elemental mods use the whole base damage of a weapon to calculate their bonus while having higher multipliers.

Enemies have certain resitances you have to keep in mind.

 

Edit: but only getting base damage sounds strange nonetheless

Or in short, all elemental damage adds damage. You're only going to see damage variances because of resistances and bonuses. It's not some straight, obvious damage that you're going to see popping up.

 

Heavy Gunner is corrosive, I believe? Though I think most stick with radiation because Bombards and Napalms are considerably more annoying.

yeah. but viral has a 75% damage boots vs Corrupted heavys and the puncture peirces the armor to attack the health and lets the viral work away. would i be wrong in saying this?

 

Sorry i have missed out the corrupted for the heavys.

 

and that heavys corrupted heavys are mostly health would this not be a buyable solution?

i agree that radiation is better vs grineer. but i missed out the corrupted and radiation isnt effective in the void high level.

so is it worth taking radiation on my boltor into the void to deal with heavys?

No, as C. Heavies are Ferrite and the C. Ancients are Fossilized.

 

Also pretty sure that Puncture only gives bonus against armor and not ignore.

 

Edit: the C. Lancers are Alloy, but never thought them worth modding for.

Attacks only show one damage number.

 

Elemental types only do a portion of your base damage and only that portion of damage is boosted by any modifiers.

 

For example:

 

A weapon dealing 100 Puncture damage.

 

With maxxed Cryo Rounds and Infected Clip it'll be doing 100 Puncture Damage + 180 Viral damage for a total of 280.

 

When attacking a target with only Cloned Flesh (Such as a Butcher) it'll deal 100 Puncture Damage and 180 * 1.75 = 315 Viral Damage for a total of 415.

 

When attacking a target with Ferrite Armour (Such as a Lancer - Who also has Cloned Flesh) it'll deal 150 Puncture Damage and 315 Viral Damage for a total of 465 which is then reduced by the damage reduction gained from Armour (Which scales up with levels - Making you do less and less damage against higher level Grineer)
