Why The 180 With Dual Heat Sword Design? Dual Heat Sword Disappointment Thread.

As some of you know but many never noticed:

With the release of melee 2.0, the look of the dual heat swords changed from the previous heat sword plus heat dagger (as depicted on the icon) to two actual long heat swords (as suggested by the actual name).

Exhibit A: (see at bottom of page trivia section and picture 1)

I personally thought the new swords looked amazing in action and when stored on your back. I poured all sorts of [read: one] Forma into dual heat swords and they became my favourite melee weapon in short order.

Unfortunately (to my mind), the dual heat swords were recently downgraded back to a heat sword plus a heat dagger. I believe that the change was an unlisted feature in hotfix 13.5.3 (someone correct me if I am wrong).

My position is this: DE, we already have plenty of long sword with short sword combos: Dual Skana, the Nami Skyla, dual ether swords, etc.

Since the dual long heat swords were working fine from a gameplay and aesthetic standpoint, why not allow us our dual heat swords? Has anyone actually complained about them?

If the issue is that the dual long swords don't match the icon (which depict the present sword plus dagger), then on the same logic they should change dual skana to actually be two swords of equal length (which is suggested both by the image of the icon of that weapon and the actual description):

Exhibit B:

http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Dual_Skana

In short, DE, please, PLEASE restore dual heat sword to its exalted, dual long sword glory. At the very least, make dual long swords a possible weapon skin as some in the community have suggested.

...I poured all sorts of Forma into dual heat swords...

All sorts eh? Outside of that bit of exaggeration, I noticed the change both times but it didn't really bother me considering it was so short lived. I kind of like one long sword and one dagger, but I'd propose something more radical (not really):

I still want the option of mixing and matching daggers and swords. I'd love a Heat Sword and on the off-hand a Ceramic Dagger or Dark Dagger with Jaw Sword, etc. and so forth :D

go to the full editor and you can change the entire post

Yeah, I realize this, but I thought that ACTUALLY changing the topic name would have confused people (namely, people who hadn't followed the saga of the heat sword design changes), so I kept the number of degree points to a bare minimum for the purposes of the topic title.  The second "edit" post was more for (lame) comedic effect than a concern for accuracy, but thanks for the heads up :)

Busted!

Okay fine (confession time)...

Because of stance mods, I only needed to put ONE forma on my dual heat swords to get all the mod capacity I could want.

BUT STILL!!!!!

I would put 20 forma on my heat swords if it could make it actual dual heat swords (in lieu of a heat sword and a dagger).

And, with due respect, if you and those like you like a sword and dagger combo, you have plenty of other options. While your proposal to mix any sword with any dagger seems fairly utopic (but then again, so did the notion of having your own cusomizable Liset ship once upon a time), why not extend it so that you can mix any two potentially dualable blades together, be it longsword/longsword or long sword/dagger or single ichor/single zoren? If so, I suppose I could get behind the proposal. Though I would probably stick with my dual long heat swords unless dual Dakra becomes a thing....

I've actually always liked the two different swords for dual sword weapons, I just dislike that, unlike the Nami Skyla dual melee, most of the daggers look like the sword version of themselves but smooshed down to dagger size (they look fat [wide] and short).

Draice said he'd look into this.

Really? Great!

I couldn't find this in the forums. Could you (or anyone) point a link out for this?

Edit: Found this tread in art and animation, in which Draice explains the situation well. My position still stands and I hope Draice does make sure that these threads meet the eyes of the decision makers at DE.

This reminds me of the akimbo gun discussion we had a while ago.

It would be great if you could create any dual weapon combo, for example, sword+dagger, sword+sword, dagger+pistol etc.

Obviously, you could also use different guns, like for example Viper+Vasto. Controls would need some tweaking but it can be done.

Wait, they changed it back?

To be honest, I felt that the dual swords was not thought through very well.

Yes, it makes sense that "Dual Heat Swords" used 2 Heat Swords (Rather than Heat Sword + Heat Dagger), and using them felt more awesome.

But the way they sheathed was awkward - The one sword that was across the waist felt like it was positioned too far the the left (Due to it being in the same place as the Dagger) and the extra length of the blade combined with this positioning also caused a lot of clipping with the left arm.

If they re-did the sheathing of Dual Longswords, I feel bringing back the 2x Heat Swords would be great.

I never noticed any serious clipping issues, per se. Again, I thought that both the sheathed position and and animation looked really cool.

Agree the way the swords are sheathed makes no sense. The positioning on the bottom sheathed blade sucks.

I would like to see both blades placed alongside each other on the lower back parallel to the ground, rather more like the stacked Fang Prime of yore - I really miss how Fang Prime  once upon a time could fit together in perfect placement. The weird little extra handles tonfa-like on Dual Heat Swords (while they were twin long swords), if they had a little slit in them, would allow a similar folding in on itself.

Though, granted, parallel on the back Witcher 2 style would work too - in real life it would prevent the ability to roll. Just saying.
