Before I begin, this post is too address what i see as the "standard optimization" build in the game.

To put it simply, when I go to mod my weapons, take any generic rifle or pistol

Serration                                                 Hornet Strike

Split chamber                                          Multi Barrel

element                                                    Lethal Torrent

element                                                    Element

element                                                    Element

element                                                    Element

expel "whatever faction"                           Element

spare                                                        Expel "whatever faction"

This build is merely an example of what i typically aim for my in my weapons. While it doesnt apply to every weapon such as the soma, it is a mere variation of the generic build with taking out one element and adding a point strike and crit damage increase. Because of this, I think the moddign system is somewhat flaw because all weapons become somewhat of the same thing in terms of customizing for efficiency. Greatest killing power as fast as possible with little down time such as reloading or the aiming.

Without revamping the entire system, I think the best way to alter the current system is to divide the amount of mod slots into a variety of categories. An example of this would be:

Soma

3 damage slots

2 element slots

2 ammo customization slot

1 bullet customization slot

This is merely an example and does not actually represent my full idea as it for one there should be more slots, but going on to explain, the damage slot would fit the standard damage increasing mods such as serration, etc. I find removing the damage mod would be too drastic of a change, so i compensate by allowing the mods to stay. The element mods slots are for the four element and are use to prevent rainbow builds for every gun. The ammo customization allow for ammo mutation, clip size, reload speed, max ammo mods. While the bullet customization allow for specific types of impact upon the enemy such as status chance, or faction specific damage.

Other guns to make each gun feel more different would have different schematics to fit that type of gun. For example, another rifle off the top of my head as an example, the Sybaris.

Sybaris

5 damage slots

1 element slot

1 ammo customization slot

1 bullet customization slot

The change in set up allows each gun to act differently instead of it being automatic or how large their base clip or reload speed is.

Problems:

It does force tenno to use guns in a specific fashion perhaps or even push some tenno to use guns that fit their taste more but it gives everyone their own type of gun choice and the build that follows that gun.

More importantly in addition, this allows some mods to actually be of some use such as eagle eye or clip size. Since players are not able to bring fully modded gun for damage, they will have slots and asking a tenno if clip size, reload speed, ammo mutation or max ammo is more important is more variable than asking if they should bring serration and other damage increases.

TO further customize the idea but pushing a bit, weapons may have "variants" which take the basic frame slots and change it a bit slightly at a cost. Perhaps giving up 2 slots in one category for an addition slot in damage.

polarity and levels can be kept as is as the system merely changes what mod is allowed to be in what slot. Also, not all damage mods should be V polarity to give polarizing each slot a unique feel rather than

Damage: V

Ammo: ---
