https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/193242-threads-in-the-trading-post/?hl=bump

The thread discusses the issue of bumping in the trading post. I propose a Bump Button. It's simply a button that allows you to bump your thread to the top of the list. You should only be able to bump once every 12, 18 or 24 hours (DE set time limit) and it acts in the same way posting in an other section but without the post.

I've seen it implemented successfully in other site. It would require a far about of back end finagling to get working but I think it would solve the issue of repeated threads and avoid the post/bump spam that would come with the re-introduction of post bumping.

This comes after I gave up of forum trading due to the conundrum of getting my thread seen without re-posting it.

the problem I see is that only so many post can be at the top before they disappear into the bottom of the list, and on to the next page. So even if you added the bump button imagine how many people would be pushing it? Sure you push it, but so will everyone else, and you will just end up at the bottom again.

True, but at least you have a way of getting to the top again. I put a reasonable amount of effort into my trading thread and I see it as a waste of my post count to be posting the same thread over and over just so I'm not on page 10 of the trading post.

Post count should still be disabled in the trade forums.

The problem is that trade threads were just getting bumped by their creators. Bumping ones own thread does not mean that thread is active.

The other issue is that trade threads are often time-sensitive. For example, someone posts a mod for sale then quickly sells it. That thread is still listed and anyone who then replies in that thread will cause it to bump to the top again even though the item is long gone. By disabling bumping, we guarantee that abandoned trade threads don't nekro to the top again.

That can be quickly solved with the ability to close personal threads.

I make a WTS thread, i do my busyness there, i got my buyer and i got me trade done, i should be able to come back to forum, and either close the thread or even delete it at my will.

To make SURE there wouldn't be grieving, after closing/deleting, would be impossible to the user to reopen/re-birthing it, for the sake off anti-grief.

I used to have this system when i was a forum admin in a Lineage 2 server. It works. And since we have a HUGE community here, it would greatly improve forum efficiency and organization.

Talk with whoever in charge, and see if it is possible, and if you approve.

So also create so possibility to down a thread by the owner if the trade is done

We need actual auction house, not this chaos in trade channel/subforum.

And to everyone who goes "hurrdurr auction is bed!1" after Diablo 3 - D3 was the only game I remember so far where it was poorly implemented and brought more harm than good. In all other MMOs I played (hundeds of them) auction did it work properly and everyone was happy about having one.

-snip-

more like put self management back in, so players can... self manage.

the 'archival purposes' reason to disable self management is poor. if you want archival, run an archive clone so all threads and posts from forever are stored. but stored somewhere else privately.

users should still be able to self manage publically. removing that feature creates 32145634976457% more work for Moderators and Community Staff when each user can handle it themselves just fine. and a lot faster. and cleaner. with less hassle. in other words just better period.

I agree that some trading threads are time sensitive and in those circumstances the OP should not hit the bump button. You could include an auto archive, for example after 7 days with no bump a thread is archived and this would solve the neckros (also wouldn't apply if only the OP was the only one who could hit the bump button). While I agree trade threads are often time sensitive this is a feature aimed at those who want to run mods/prime shops in the trading sections.

My biggest issue at the moment is, with the forum editor as it stands, that it is extremely difficult to duplicate a thread with the BB code ect from your existing thread. This means you have to write a draft in a notepad or Word and then copy and paste every time you wish to gain front page status or when your thread falls to oblivion. this makes sinking time and effort into your thread tiresome.

Just to clarify the idea is a button the OP can use to bump a trading thread once every 24 hours. It is not the reintroduction of posts causing a thread to be bumped.

Maybe, if people actually close their threads.

This idea was mentioned in Devstream 27.

This hasn't been an issue with our team yet, but point taken.

We do have an auto-archive set up, but 7 days would be too short. Feedback noted about the BB code. An easier way to repost with code would definitely be nice.

plain text and partially featured Text Editors(as an option, i know IP Board and all other widely used forum software has multiple text editors in them) plox :s

WYSIWYG Editors are painful to use.

I took a quick look but didn't see anything promising. I'll look into it more when I have a chance.

Really, it would be better just to have a whole other website just for trading.

I am fond of some of TF2s work, mainly this one:

EMPHATICALLY DO NOT WANT.

Just my two cents.

Trading is already easy as pie in this game.  If you're not selling as much as you'd hoped, perhaps you should lower your asking prices.

Ah now here's the thing, I'm currently sat on over 1k Plat. I don't need the plat and so putting the time and effort into actively trading vs game time and levelling isn't worth it for me. I have sold stuff from a trading post and it's much more casual than the trading chat. it's also, in my opinion, more social and offers a slightly different type of trading.

I like to keep a note in my trading threads of when I'm online and change it when I logg in/out. So i would use the bump button when I plan to be online for any length of time and bump when I update my online status.

I figured as much, when you're manually editing sizes and images with the current editor you can have it change while you're still editing which is frustrating to say the least.

Anyway I figured I would throw it out there. As it currently stands I really don't like the trading post as the combination of the editor and the fact there's  no way to bump means putting serious effort into a thread seems wasted to me.
