TennoSimons Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) First of all, I realize that there are a lot of Loki die-hards who adamantly maintain the slogan "Loki is fine the way he is", but please just hear me out and read the whole post before responding: Being a thieving, mischievous fellow, I propose the modest change to Switch Telelport: In addition to its present effects, it should allow Loki to potentially "steal" a power from an opponent, or "borrow" from ally. If cast on an enemy Tenno (either a Spectre or in conclaves) with an active ability in use (e,g, only works on abilities that are subject to power duration), then Loki would receive the effects of said ability, but suject to Loki's own power duration. If, on the other hand, Loki switches with an ally (again, whether player controlled or even a gear Spectre), the same thing would happen except that the switched target would not lose the ability that was cast, but Loki would "borrow" it and gain the benefits for a period again determined by Loki's power duration (base of which scales with Switch Teleport mod level) The Benefits of this proposal is that it would make Loki even more of a trickster, and reward quick, roguish thinking and reflexes. It would make him at once more of a team player (by potentially multiplying and extending team buffs like Volt Speed, etc), and more of a troll than he is (but only in PvP, where Trolling is a good thing for Loki). An additional benefit is that it could help provide a (by some accounts much needed) incentive to use Specters as gear - at least for Loki players. Thoughtful and strategic Specter deployment would be another dimension to Loki's possibilities. The Downside is that it would arguably make this powerful frame OP. But I think that this argument can be countered with three points: 1) Switch Teleport is a tier 3 power, and arguably has a very high cost already. This new functionality would help justify the high cost. 2) Recall that this effect only obtains if cast on a Tenno with an active ability. Doing this to enemies could prove difficult and would require good timing, aim and awareness. 3) Remember that the benefits are subject to power duration, which could be tweaked to prevent OP. Thus, switching with a armored Rhino with Iron Skin would only grant however many seconds of Iron Skin to Loki. And finally, perhaps certain powers would be off limits to Loki no matter what. (E.g., perhaps offensive/damaging abilties should be excluded, and further: only be used on tier 1-3, powers, or 1-2 powers, etc. Or else Switch-stealable powers could be determined on a case-by-case basis). TennoSimons Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Edit: Note that original post was radcially revised . Edited June 5, 2014 by TennoSimons
Drunken_Child Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I just use it as a catalyst for other abilities. I switch tele to get close to a crow and invis or what ever. But I don't see any reason not to have it buffed.
Omega224 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 the only one of loki's powers that could use a buff is decoy other than that his kit is perfect loki is intended to have a full kit of non offensive powers which this suggestion is not
VoidWraith Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I'll be honest, I felt it was Loki Prime, until the words "Chaos Prime" popped up, and then I'm thinking, wait that better not be Nyx..... But as for your suggestion on "stealing powers" it should probably just be a side-effect WITH the radial disarm.... or the switch teleport.
Jamescell Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Sounds interesting. But Loki works great as is. Edited June 5, 2014 by Jamescell
RawGritz Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) I think Decoy should either explode when it's health runs out/is damaged enough..with significant AOE...or... ...to keep the no-damage component of his abilities... It could explode into some sort of snare/net/trap type thingy. Have it project outward to pin enemies against walls and surfaces for a brief amount of time. Loki Hero tip with decoy: I cast it next to me. Then teleport on a downed squad mate. Squad mate is now next to my decoy. I then switch teleport on the Decoy and revive my buddy out of harms way. Also helps to have Overextended for 90 Range instead of the 45 on Stretch. Edited June 5, 2014 by RawGritz
TennoSimons Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 So replace ST or RD with this? No - Switch Teleport would remain unaltered in its current function except it would (under the appropriate cirumstances) have this additional effect. That is: you would still switch places with enemies, allies, specters and decoys, but if timed such that the target has an active warframe abiltiy (or perhaps certain abilities only), then Loki would additionally gain said power for a modest duration (though subject to power duration mods and overall Switch Teleport mod level).
7grims Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 loki is perfect, but tweeking a little is switch teleport is a good suggestion.
TennoSimons Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 the only one of loki's powers that could use a buff is decoy other than that his kit is perfect loki is intended to have a full kit of non offensive powers which this suggestion is not But it is non-offensive - the abilities that I have in mind ones in which the frame in question enters a buff state: things like warcry, or Volt Speed or Zephyr's redirect. Upon consideration, probably tier 4 powers should be excluded outright - Loki running around with 5 seconds of Warcry or Accellerant is one thing, but 5 seconds of Hysteria or World on Fire would definitely be OP...
TennoSimons Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 ... that is, it is no more offensive than jumping over a bottomless pit and switch teleporting with an enemy. There is absolutely no direct damage.
Omega224 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 yea stealing novas null star or an eximus expanding fire ring and blasting an enemy with it totally isnt offensive at all
TennoSimons Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 yea stealing novas null star or an eximus expanding fire ring and blasting an enemy with it totally isnt offensive at all Maybe bother reading the post - I stated that tier 4 powers would probably not be doable (and possibly no direct damage auras, regardless of tier) Not that I want to have a semantic debate here, but even if Switch Teleport could steal such powers, it would be far from an offensive power. It would be necessarily reactive - since it depends on the target having the power active. And finally, even if I were to grant that ability-stealing is, or under certain circumstances, is at least potentially an "offensive" power, I would have to contend your own hypocritical purism about Loki ostensibly having no offensive abilities. Ahem, [to paraphrase] "yea Radial Disarm doing 500 impact damage to chargers and 500 magnetic damage in conclaves totally isnt offensive at all"
