Selpar Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 So I was watching Dev Stream 30 and I forget who it was but someone said that no one could beat Lephantis with only a melee weapon. So I though to myself "I'm going to kill Lephantis not only with a melee weapon, but solo, and with no sentinel. I'll record it and put it on youtube to show that game developer that no one gets to decide what weapons I use but me, not even bosses." So I made an ODA key and unequipped the weapons from my Valkyr except my kogake and went to go prove I'm more stubborn than your average player. The mission was going very well clear up until I got to the boss. For some reason I was having a hard time hitting Lephantis with my ripline to fly up and punch it in the weak point. And I kept activating hysteria on accident because the custom bindings on my controller so after 20 minutes and only hitting 3 times I aborted the mission to remove hysteria. Then I thought I'd give it another go. This time I again had no problems until I reached the boss, but once I got there I simply ran into the same problem with using ripline sometimes it just wouldn't work. So I reset my key bindings to the default, but that didn't help. Then I noticed what was wrong : You can't target Lephantis with ripline! The only way I could hit Lephantis was to target a wall behind the head with ripcord and then hit it as I passed. This is a feat that requires the head to pop up near a wall and then you have to get a lucky hit at just the right time in the animation. If you hit the armored part first you don't seem to do any damage even if you go diving into the weak point fist first moments after. It is very, very annoying to try to do. I believe the reason you can't target Lephantis with ripcord is so players wouldn't pull it to them like they do every other enemy in to game, but I think it would be a lot funner if when you used the move on something large like Lephantis you were pulled towards it like when you used it on walls and stuff. I would love to see this change implemented.
-Upgreid- Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 (edited) Use glaive. Press E to win. :P But yeah I agree, Lephantis should get targeted by Ripline, at least as an object you can pull yourself to. Edited June 7, 2014 by UpgradeInProgress
Selpar Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 Use glaive. Press E to win. :P But yeah I agree, Lephantis should get targeted by Ripline, at least as an object you can pull yourself to. The goal was to win with melee if I was throwing a glaive that kinda defeats the point. But if you were just trying to win without a primary or secondary weapon the glaive does sound like a good idea.
XxWhiteGuYxX Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I think it was a bad idea for DE to add the unequip option when you can't actually melee quite a few things. Seems kinda premature. Anyway, I admire your ambition.
5Billion Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Dude this is @(*()$ hilarious... using ripline to get high and try and do an aerial attack? Genius! Lol, and I like how you do what you want to, this boss ain't deciding S#&$ for lol.
Archistopheles Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 The Devs told you that you couldn't do something, so you tried, and it didn't work, and now you want them to fix what they said you couldnt do in the first place?

Archistopheles Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 he's making the point that all bosses should be melee-able, which is actually what the devs are working on I don't remember them saying that. I remember them saying that bosses should feel different and demand different tactics from mission to mission, but never that they all have to be melee-able. Source?
Selpar Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 The Devs told you that you couldn't do something, so you tried, and it didn't work, and now you want them to fix what they said you couldnt do in the first place? The problem isn't that it is impossible to beat Lephantis, it is that ripline doesn't work like it should. The Devs told me I couldn't do something, I thought of a way to do what they said I couldn't, but in this one case I can't use my ability. I can't even use it as a means to attack the weak points, because Lephantis can't be targeted by ripline at all. That is what I want fixed, beating him this way should be hard but it should be possible.
Archistopheles Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 The problem isn't that it is impossible to beat Lephantis, it is that ripline doesn't work like it should. Lephantis has special rules. Lanka doesn't deal full damage to him, but that doesn't mean it should be fixed. I don't care either way if Ripline works or doesn't, I just don't want you guys to get your hopes up.

I don't care either way if Ripline works or doesn't, I just don't want you guys to get your hopes up. I'm fine with it having special rules. I even suggested what I think a good special rule would be in this case. The problem is that with no warning or anything a otherwise reliable ability is completely worthless. Considering that in dev stream 30 they also said J3 Golem is going to be massive and that they want to make more big bosses, they really need to decide how ripline is going to work with enemies of that size. It doesn't matter if it just does damage, or if you get pulled toward the target (the cooler of the 2 choices) it really needs to do something.
Flamed Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 They should have never allowed you to bring a single weapon. If you only bring a melee weapon, you are unable to kill certain bosses and kill some mobs such as Orokin Drones.

I kill Orokin Drones with melee weapons all the time, and what boss is truly immune to melee it maybe hard and could take quite a while but I think you could beat any boss with only melee. Some bosses like Vay Hek are hard to hit but I don't think that they are immune.

(PSN)NicoTheSneakyGuy Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I feel instead of just Lephatins they should rework other bosses and enemies and mechanics so that you can melee only through everything.
Selpar Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 I feel instead of just Lephatins they should rework other bosses and enemies and mechanics so that you can melee only through everything. I don't think they need to edit the bosses to make melee work, they only need to improve a few of the mechanics like wall attacks and then put the bosses in an area where you could use those mechanics to hurt the boss. Wall attacks let you hit pretty high enemies but they don't help you if there are no walls nearby.
