CunningRuse Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Hi there, i just started playing warframe again after not playing for like half a year. I really enjoy damage 2.0 because it added more depth to the game and made more weapons viable over all. but lately i just stumbled upon something i dont fully understand. Elemental dmg is supposed to be culculated by adding a percentage of your physical dmg as elemental dmg. Now if i add a mod that gives more physical dmg overall (f.e. "hornet strike") the elemental dmg will apply after the latter and by doing so grow as well. But if i add a mod that raises a specific physical dmg (f.e. "no turning back") the elemental dmg won't be affected by it. To me this doesnt seem to make any sense, since i thought the mods that add specific physical dmg have lower percentages than the elemental mods because they affect elemental dmg as well. Example in numbers: random pistol: 50 impact 100 puncture 50 slash adding "random elemtal mod" with 90%: 50 impact 100 puncture 50 slash 180 elemental dmg adding "hornet strike" with 100%: 100 impact 200 puncture 100 slash 360 elemental dmg now adding "no turning back" with 50%: 100 impact 300 puncture 100 slash 360 elemental dmg although adding to overall physical dmg in the last step, elemental dmg will stay the same. Now i don't really know if this is a bug or intended. If the latter is the case, i don't get the logic behind this. So maybe you guys can either help me understand this or fix the bug if it's unintended. Greetings, Cunning (Ps: Sry for possible grammar mistakes and stuff, no english native speaker)
ShadowDragon000 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I believe it is intended but I do feel like the physical damage modifiers are far to weak and should either added into the calculation for other damage types or be buffed to a higher % than elemental mods.
CunningRuse Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 i agree with you, atm there is not a single reason to take impact-, puncture- or slash-dmg-mods into account... they're just outclassed by everything
Tsukinoki Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Pretty much its been confirmed to be intended, even if I wish they would change it. This was seen when they "fixed" how accellerated blast for shotguns used to work.If you're unaware it used to work how elemental mods did and added puncture damage equal to 60% of your total base damage to the gun, instead of just adding an extra 60% of already existing puncture damage. It was the only physical damage mod that was worth it, and they broke it.And you are right in that there is literally no reason to take a physical damage mod over anything else. Which is a shame. They really should make it in line with other elemental mods.
CunningRuse Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 thx for the respond, hopefully in upcoming updates they will balance this, but i wanted to be sure i get how it works right now
Ravenika Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I agree. The numbers are still balanced as if they effected Elemental damage. I think they should, but if DE insists that they shouldn't, then the percentages for these modes really should be doubled. If a physical damage mod can't increase overall damage by as much as a comperable cost Elemental mod, it's obviously worthless in the current meta. Because of the additional benefits of elemental damage, the balance should actually be such that the physical damage mods provide a bit more damage increase than the comperable cost elemental mod. The game is very well designed, which makes exceptions to superior design all the more obvious.
