'Agree' and 'Disagree' Post Ratings.

Recommended Posts

So, I'm proposing that you can rate posts by other users 'Agree' and 'Disagree' on the forums, the amounts of these ratings as well as the ability to rate should be shown at the bottom of the post, coinciding with the "Quote" and "Report" options.

This will help mostly with Feedback and 'Suggestion' threads to see the amount of people who... well... agree, or in Bug Report threads to give a more accurate amount of how many people are experiencing the same bugs.

I do not think we should have a 'Like/Dislike' system because 'Agree' and 'Disagree' would be more useful and constructive, and will more accurately express the opinions of those who are rating.

Thanks to 'NeverDT' for saying this:

If you're going to do this, do it League of Legends style; "agree/disagree" on a post-by-post basis, anonymous, and no connections to user profiles. Moderation can deal with trolls better than a reputation system can.

I'm not sure if this is the system the OP was aiming for, but let's just say I will forever disagree with "like" or "karma" systems.

Don't see the difference between like and dislike and agree and disagree.

I just see it working better, and causing less bitterness...

"YU DISLEIK MAH POST IM GONA HAK U"

I could be wrong, but it really doesn't matter to me, either one would be fantastic.

This is what I assumed he was referring to, but thanks for pointing out the ambiguity.

In case of Bug reports i'd rather not use such a system to show that other people have encoutered the "same" bug. It's really rare for People to notice a Bug in exactly the same place and manner like everyone else who came across it. Bug discriptions of "where, how, when" would be far more helpfull than maybe one mediocore description of how it happend and everyone else "agrees".

:/

Well, I disagree with this, but the only real way to know would be to actually try it out. If you're right and I'm wrong, they could just disable ratings in that particular forum.

But I'm sure you already knew this ;)

I agree with you wholly, I'll clarify the 'Anonymous' property in the OP.

I'd rather see people write why they disagree than just click a button.

Or, I could have just clicked disagree to your post.

Yes you could ;)

Many people still write why they disagree, in fact, I've seen LOTS more replies than ratings on forums that use this system. But sometimes a rating is all you need, without cluttering the thread with more "I like this idea" clone posts.

It's also easier to get hard numbers, see in an instant what the community generally thinks of the idea.

There are also a LOT of people who won't bother replying, but would definitely 'just click a button'.

Then just open up a thread with a Vote, which can have multiple options and leaves everyone with the option to state their mind.

No need to re-invent the wheel.

It would most likely cause alot of drama.

Agreed, not to mention it'd be enabling trolls.

How about a simple facebook ripoff "Like" button instead? and if you don't agree with a post, you simply ignore it..? Just like the Enjin forums if anyone's familiar with it.

Unfortunately, people will always find some way to abuse such a system. So I'm against it. Sorry, I know you have your heart in the right place, but I've seen these things go wrong so many times...

That would probably work, as there is really no need for a negative vote.

Never make negative related buttons on people's posts.

Seriously, it destroys forums and communities, used to frustrate, troll or otherwise upset someone.

Just add a like button if you have too...just take a look at the War Z forums and why their rep system failed so badly.

After seeing the thread "Regarding the Volt nerf" and a post I read that I vaguely remember about (evil-killing cucumbers?) it kinda hurt not to be able to show that I liked the post/thread without having to post it up.

So is there going to be a 'like' button or is that something that just doesn't fit on forums like this?
