LordMidnightX Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 So I have this project for school it is a portfolio website and one of the last projects is to get feedback from people and then write a paper about it. Anyway tell me what you think http://wstauffer.mydevryportfolio.com/
MrNonApplicable Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 How well do you respond to different types of feedback?(Before I offer mine)
RossRam Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Hey, if this is a project for school, then your future has a lot of possibilities.
Zareek Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) It looks a little childish. Not trying to be rude, but maybe try and make it look more proffesional? Edit: Let me try to elaborate. The background is too much. Sometimes white, grey and black makes it seem better overall. I would suggest to keep it simple but interesting. Edited June 15, 2014 by Zareek

Ketec Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 did u just start at the school with it? basic school/university? what grade. based off that i can give feedback ( i do php backend but i also deal with frontent )
Hyperius Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 There is way too much going on. I'm in your industry and I would definitely pass your website up unless you were directly recommended by someone (which ends up being more important than skill). It also depends on who you are targeting as potential employers.
Regar Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) as graphic designer myself, i suggest you to get rid of all the background and ornaments and chose something more clean and polished for your website the ornaments are really cool and gorgeous by themselves, but a website has to be more clear to be functional said been said, just start a research on internet and observe the other people websites, you will certanly notice what i'm trying to say have a nice day, and keep up your studies, if you have a great passion, the future will be bright for sure. I will think about it though. as for childish I would like you to look at this guys portfolio which is really awesome, I think there is a place for it depending on who is looking to hire you http://www.rleonardi.com/interactive-resume/ this guy is a professional and has worked on a lot of stuff

That's just me though :)
Ketec Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 http://gtmetrix.com/dashboard.html to run a check on the code/ quality on your site. Design wise - its messy. repeating backgrounds. flashing and moving icons etc are from year 2000. That's what the site looks like - 15 years out of date. For example one of my recent projects (http://rfbattlefront.eu/ - and iv only dealt with design/php for around 3 months).
Siege__ Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 You want tips for improvement? I recommend taking the HTML/CSS and then the Webpage building course on Codecademy.com. It's where I learn to code, and it shows you from the ground up how to make things look professional, work cross-platform, and teach you step by step how to do it. And feedback, I'd say the portfolio looks a bit.. symmetrical. But overall there is a lot of potential.

The main thing I think I could change is the picture with the navigation. It is probably one of the main culprits of being to much.
Ketec Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 What is the goal of the project? To learn webdesign ( u dont seem to like it) or something else? If its javascript and coding - u should look at using some lightweight frontend framework like http://ink.sapo.pt/

If its javascript and coding - u should look at using some lightweight frontend framework like http://ink.sapo.pt/ it is not to learn js and coding pretty much all of my coding is from me googling how to do stuff. The class is suppose to help us make a design portfolio so we can get hired. Although considering we pretty much have to teach ourselves this stuff then we are not to prepared.
Ketec Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 portfolio is simply showing work you have done. so having a class just for that.... i don't see the point. Instead learning how to do it should be the priority.
MrNonApplicable Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 In my opinion, it is overcluttered, somewhat cliche and the banner permanently overlaying the top of screen doesn't really help.
