After watching a trailer from 'No Man's Sky' I asked myself whether there will be similar fantastic landscapes in Warframe in the future.

The planet/asteroid tilesets we have now look a lot like they would be Terran (aside from the sky). Jupiter, on the other hand, adds a lot to this sci-fi feeling of the game. Sure, we're in the Solar system and the planets and asteroids currently (as in: contemporary, Hayden Tenno timeline, if you will) look quite dead and desert-ey, but the Orokin had a couple of centuries if not millenia to terraform them. What do you think? More strange plant life, floating rock formations and green and purple skies: yay or nay?

Spore was one of my all time favorite before it poofled off the charts somehow.

I love alien terains/planet/species.

I'm pretty sure they mentioned an Infested tileset in the works on a few dev streams.

Yup, it looked like an entire space ship got infested, as far as I can remember. I'm focusing on planets in this thread, though. Like, alien life forms, skies and rocks and stuff like that.

That is NOT the same. And the infested tileset is a taken over Corpus ship.

I want some alien world like Felucia in Star Wars. I hope the Sentients are alien as well.

An alien world would be cool except for the fact that the game is based in our solar system, which only has a handful of places that can even dream of supporting life. Obviously you can look at it as really far in the future and evolution and all that plus being a fictional game. We have seen most the rocky bodies and the only option would be a new location. Titan would be awesome place for a alien environment.

I would hope DE would try to do a partially terraformed or entirely unterraformed Titan.  Vast hydrocarbon seas of black, psuedo-organic tholin compounds raining from the sky, some nice rocky terrain.

Might be interesting to fight in a Corpus or grineer facility nestled into such.

How is that alien?

Kamranos, if they'd tie it in with the Sentients, it could work, if they make the Sentients some "fantastic" aliens. And by alien, I don't mean a copy of the Infested. I mean something like Crysis's Ceph (the actual aliens themselves, not their mechanical constructs), or like the alien "mimics" in Edge of Tomorrow. Something that's really different from the current factions.

I think that would be cool. From a design standpoint, it would require a ton of work. Not saying it couldn't happen down the road, but I think is would be like Update 20. Infested are not alien, they are an infection. Which is why all but Ancients still resemble the faction (corpus or greneer) that they infected. It would be cool if Earth's Moon was the base for such life.

Yeah, maybe Update 20 will see the inclusion of the Sentients. I just think that an alien world could tie in with them, maybe if they terraform a planet/moon or something.

Id like to see a magnetic planetoid tile set with big metallic rocks hovering in the air that resonate a weird chime sound, other areas where the magnetism creates electricity that burns gasses to make mini suns, lakes of magnetic fluid that reacts with the changing forces in the area (like ferofluid on a magnet) and maybe some sort of corpus lab so its not all just landscape.

For no real reason other than i think this would look pretty kool and none terran =D.

Maybe more alien stuff within the Void, similar to Xen from Half-Life. As for the Solar System itself, I wouldn't expect anything too alien looking.

Yes

We need orokin headcrabs

All of my yes

Maybe if/when they introduce an all new solar system, we'll see some good aliens.

In my vision of future Warframe, we have more solar systems with crazy alien landscapes and life and jump from one to the other in our warp capable space ships. Maybe in a few years, if we're lucky? I hope I'll be still around to see it.

There was a talk about a new faction a long time ago, but I think they either put it on hold or it ended up becoming this new infested tileset. A pity really, because we could seriously use a faction that did not rely on technology like the Corpus and Grineer do. Infested don't count because they simply "infest" and twist Corpus and Grineer technology.

You think the possibility of a "semi" open world map would be too far fetched? The maps are currently fixed, to kinda lead you to where you need to go. With a nice landscape, such as in the video, having more to explore would be absolutely amazing I think.

Nothing about the Void screams alien to me. Don't see why alien stuff should feature there.

What part of blinding Hell space doesn't sound alien?

The Sentients are still coming. They are probably going to take a loooong time though. I'm pretty sure finishing the factions and tilesets in the Sol System comes first.

I think with the current engine this is a bit tough to do. Either you have the procedurally generated "tiles" that already exist or you could have a very large static area (the problem with which is that the layout doesn't change). And considering how the current engine is designed, I don't think it really can handle procedurally generated open terrain like Minecraft.

Not to mention what happens to CPU and RAM requirements when you go into procedurally generated wide-open terrain at Warframe's level of detail... they would skyrocket.

Venus could probably be home to the Felucia-like landscape.  In reality, it's a carbondioxide super heated hell scape with crushing air pressure and lots of lightning (and well lit, despite the cloud cover.)  In the far flung future, the atmosphere was probably thinned through terraforming to make it a second Earth, but the increased atmosphere to better protect from the sun's radiation had extraordinary effects on plant life.  Mind, the hypothetical reason Venus lost it's atmosphere (and probably rotation) to begin with has more to do with its core, but, eh... Phobos and Ceres have atmospheres and 1G gravity so...
