Name Change

Sorry don't where to post this. However, just wondering why a name change costs 200 plat?! That's 20 bucks for one, without coupons etc. Why so much..

Off topic: More so, why uploading a clan emblem is 150 plat. What if I upload one and it doesn't look exactly right? Do we get another "shot" at uploading it or is that it? It's something we want to do so badly for our clan but it's so much platinum that we are afraid of messing it up.

You could say the same about any and every cosmetic in the game. It all comes to vanity, if you wanna look good pay. Simple as that.

DE needs to make money to continue to develop Warframe as a F2P game. The only things you need to buy with platinum are inventory slots and cosmetics. Be grateful for that, as moneygrabbers are plaguing the gaming industry lately. As a result, DE relies heavily on the community's support. Stop complaining about something that you're taking for granted. If you don't like your name, you should've given it more thought. Buy platinum if its a problem.

It's not that I don't like my name, just growing tired of it. Had this name for awhile, plus might want to add clan tags. So yeah..

The name change thing is a straight deterrent.  To put it simply, they don't want you changing your name so they make it costly.  Realistically speaking, you shouldn't have to change your name anyways so that one is a non-issue.

 

As far as the clan emblem goes, you get a brief/simple preview before finalizing that you'd like to upload it.  As far as its cost, they specifically have to have someone check over it to ensure that it isn't using stolen/copyrighted art or something vulgar or problematic.  Time is money as they say.

You do realize that it's entirely possible that someone could spend hours, days, weeks, months and even years coming up with a name, and then 6 months down the line, be less satisfied with the name than they were at its inception..?

 

In fact, I can think of many reasons as to why you would want to change name.

I'm glad you can. as for OP, your best bet would be either waiting for a discount or just ignore your name completely.

I did, I wanted "Mastikator", but the account creation screwed up and reserved that name while also not creating the account (which all by itself is a WTF moment). Took me a few months think of a better name, but I don't feel like spending 20 USD to change it to "NinjaTroll", especially since it would eat my money if that name was taken and I have no way of knowing beforehand.

 

The result is just that I choose to withhold my money. Not a good business model.

Are you sure? I was under the impression that if the name is taken, it asks you to input a different name. You can keep trying until you get one.

About the gist of it. Name changes are pretty costly in every game I've seen that offers it (usually a purchaseable cash shop token). If your name was taken, oh well! You're not getting it even if you do a name change later, so you're still going to have to think of a good alternate. Best to handle that part before you start playing. Ultimately it's all just personal preference; if you don't like your name after 6 months... nobody cares but you.

Right, but it does not cost you anything more to do so. If the name is taken, they don't take your 200 plat and laugh in your face, you just need to think of a different one.

He wants a new name, he pays 20 dollars for that name, and if it's taken, he doesn't get what he just spent that money for. Money eaten.

 

Now, he's on the spot and needs to come up with another one, again. Since there's money on the line, well, the name is going to have to be pretty satisfying, either equally or more so, which, in my experience, is never the case if you had already come up with a name you liked first. It's disappointing. This, of course, defeats the purpose and he has just spent money on a name that isn't even the one he wanted in the first place. Money eaten.

Slightly off topic: I've been considering changing my forum/game name.

I've only ever used two aliases on the internet, "Mastikator" and "NinjaTroll". I prefer not to add a third one just for the sake of Warframe, and I would absolutely not want to spend $20 if I don't know with absolute certainty that "NinjaTroll" isn't taken. (nevermind that $20 is just far too much even if I did know).
