LasersGoPewPew Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 according to volts description he's an alternative to gunplay, yet you can't use his abilities for efficient kills past level 25 corpus mobs. his damage should be increased and the cost of the abilities should be reduced by a noticeable amount by default in order for him to be an "alternative to gunplay".

When that description was written, Pluto was the most difficult content in the game.
BrotherIcarus Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Well he is in low levels back when he was a starter frame this description made perfect sense. (He should just have his description changed)
fatpig84 Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Meh I find him using shock + melee a rather effective combo. That's "alternative" enough for me.
Shinobi-kun Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Alternative to gunplay enough, pretty sure his skills don't involve guns.
rechot Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 for warframe their should be a option warframes labeled as caster should have the option to unequip all weapons for increased damage on abilities with lower energy cost and increased movement speed based on amount of gear taken off
Churpy Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 He's a very old frame, probably needs a little bit of "modernizing", so to speak. So much has changed since his inception. However, I have a friend who has played since closed beta and still mains Volt, and highly considers it to be one of the best frames..so you might not want to give up on it until you've tried everything.

Volt is an excellent frame. At low levels Shock clears rooms, and Overload clears the map. At high levels, Speed gets the show going, Shock still has guaranteed stun to crowds, Overload can still annihilate if used in an area with enough lights to break, and Electric Shield, after all its buffs, is amazing. It will make a Lanka go from dealing chip damage to instantly slaying Napalms, even as pure electric. He's not as abusive as Nova but is considerably as well-rounded or more so than Excalibur. Speedrunning, crowd control, defense, and one of the best forms of high-level damage amps, if more restrictive than Nova's. There's not really a time when Volt is a poor choice.
ThePredicament Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Volt is really powerful, especially with the recent buff to his shield. In terms of clearing out trash and doing regular missions, he really well equipped and balanced. Shock is one of the most powerful tier 1 attacks in the game (would say just below Pull).Look at Nyx, she's as end game as they come but much too overkill in regular missions. Volt is good throughout everything, Shield providing much more damage for the whole team, shock is super cheap, can semi-permastun, AND can be used while reloading. With that said though, his ult's one time big bang thing does need a bit of tweaking, overloaded lights/electronics should self repair within a time period. Shock should be affected by duration but never negatively (for shock spam builds), so it can either hit more stuff or hit stuff multiple times and/or have a longer stun affect (which should be applied to Overload too).

Very informative post about Volt. I absolutely love the speed buff when I have a volt on my team, and the few times that I've used the shield, it's been pretty awesome. Good to know that the other two abilities are still effective endgame, because I actually don't know much about Volt, I just know he's pretty good in the right hands. He's also exceptionally rare, at least in my experiences, probably due to the fact that he's dojo research AND that he's super old. Frankly, with all these neat things you're telling us, it's a shame. Awesome at the same time when you play one/get to play with one though.
KittyDarkling Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Those descriptions are laughably outdated. Volt has an ability that literally buffs gun-play, I don't think basing an argument on something so obviously outdated is a good idea. On a side note I'm not objected to seeing Volt be brought up, not that he needs it terribly, but I don't think it would hurt either.
RealPandemonium Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) Descriptions are irrelevant; read the wiki to see if a frame sounds good to you. Edited June 18, 2014 by RealPandemonium

On what mission? Rush missions? yea thats about it.... I don't see volt much on ceres or other tough planets....if I see a volt (as a frost prime) I begin to think...."yea, ill be pickin his @$$ up at the 10min mark for sure" ....Low and behold, volt is laying there needing a rez....

LukeAura Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I do like the current Volt, Overload does need a few tweaks but overall he's actually pretty good. But OP isn't talking about how good Volt is or not, but in terms of play style design. He is sold as the 'mage', but plays more a weapon augmenter role. Quick CC with flexible range great for either melee or gun play, Gun and defensive buff in shield, Melee and offensive buff in Speed. And then a very standard Ult. Nothing really about him screams 'mage'.A lot of people like Volt as he currently is, so it might be easier just to have someone rewrite his description to be accurate to his persona. Although I wouldn't mind seeing Shock have its damage output upped a little.

Also "alternative to gunplay" doesn't necessarily mean "ability damage". Valkyr is also an alternative to gunplay.
CapedBaldy Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) I'm pretty sure Ash is the true alternative to gunplay. EDIT: Tenno'd Edited June 18, 2014 by CapedBaldy
LascarCapable Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Volt is really powerful when you know how to use it. Unfortunately, people seems to stay on that "Volt is crap" point of view... -____-
CapedBaldy Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Volt is plenty strong, but I feel as though his abilities supplement gunplay more than being alternatives.
taiiat Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 "This one time, one Volt got downed, so Volt is a bad frame, and my story is totes true." i need to Revive players playing all kinds of frames, including FrostP - so that clearly means that every frame is bad and useless. sounds legiiiiiiiit.
Mak_Gohae Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Super Speed is supposed to be use to melee faster but no one uses it like that. You are supposed to stun people with shock then quickly run to them and cut them up. Most people just use speed to run past things or hide behing the shield.
Tigercloud Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Ember is the alternative to gunplay. Volt should just have his description rewritten. He's awesome, as several people here have posted. Just not a caster.
Azawarau Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Volt is really powerful when you know how to use it. Unfortunately, people seems to stay on that "Volt is crap" point of view... -____- Volt is amazingly suited to people who love gunplay #1 High stun usable while reloading and doesnt need perfect aim so you can get some stun for better aim or small CC while you shoot #2 Run and gun. Need i say more? #3 Super shield that buffs your guns? I say yes #4 CC button with lots of stun so you can pick off targets or large groups with relative ease Its always felt like Volt was made to be used with guns rather than an alternative to them
Rekkou Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 His bad reputation is what keeping him OP for those who actually knew him. I got chills whenever someone posted a thread about electric shield exploit. But seeing there's always more thread whining about his damage, it'll be a while before this sub forum is filled with Volt nerf thread.
