Mods For Primary? (Mainly Rifles)

Question

Posted (edited)

I have the Bolter/Soma, but I'm having a terrible time understanding which mods to use and when to use them. I'm trying to get the highest possible DPS against grins/corpus/infested/void.

I have serration 8, heavy cal 7, and split chamber maxed.

I have 3 of 4 elements maxed out (cant find stormbringer)

This is what I have atm http://tinyurl.com/kzcjt97

It's not bad, but It gets a bit hard to kill certain things (specially high level ones)

There are lots of builds on warframebuilder. The damage calculations are pretty accurate too.

Try this most popular soma build.

I'd personally replace the Heavy Caliber with an elemental mod, since that accuracy reduction is definitely not worth the tiny boost in damage IMO. But that aside, this is the general go-to build for Crit-based rifles.

The Boltor can't make use of critical mods, so those can be replaced with elements, Bane mods, Heavy Cal, and/or some Utility mods.

- Remove that Heavy Caliber, and replace it with some Elemental mods (preferably Cicero or Tethra mods if you can get your hands on them, since those give great boosts at low costs. Cicero mods can be obtained from Vor in Tower 4 missions.)

- Squeeze a bit more room out of your mod points; swap the positions of Split Chamber and Serration.

That's the first thing I'd do, anyways. xD

I already know I'll be using Serration, Split chamber, and heavy cal and most rifle builds, but what mods are a must in order to max dps against grin, corpus, infested, and void.

Or if I should just make a blanket build that will cover all?

Also where/what should I start to polarize?

A blanket build is ok if you are not a min max player.

V polarity is the most useful polarity for weapons so your first forma should be a V polarity.

Every weapon should have at least 2 V polarity, one for serration and the other for split chamber.

These two mods are the foundation of every build.

The fraction damage mods are good vs the 3 fractions (eg. Expel grineer etc).

But, a rule of thumb

1) corrosive damage (lightning + toxin) is generally good against armored targets. Void builds should have this.

2) radiation damage and puncture damage is good vs grineer

3) impact and magnetic vs corpus

4) heat, slash and corrosive when against infested

That's how I mod my weapons anyways.

But, viral is pretty good also.

So, if you must choose 1 elemental combo for general use, I would go with either viral or corrosive.

Honestly this seems a bit complicated, maybe I'll just take it step by step and begin building a Grineer build, and slowly adapt to corpus, later infested. Nonetheless, you explained it perfectly, I guess It's a bit overwhelming to me as I don't some of the mods, but thank you :P

ok here, did I do this right?

Grineer: http://gyazo.com/8d6ad9c9b32e5d9e175467ad5659562b

Corpus: http://gyazo.com/4231c7287f6e964de60fbb9a20fa25c7

Infested: http://gyazo.com/6b32d93edcc3f8389f4657139c501ffa

(I polarized 3 times for the bottom left - and the 2 v)

Am I on the right track lol? What else could I possibly do to maximize all DPS against them :p

Also are my polarities in the right places? Should I start polarizing my weapon the way I did there or will I run into problems in the future?

The I/P/S mods are terrible. Get rid of them for more elemental damage. Also you need to install the critical increasing mods on the Soma.

Replace Bane and Piercing for Viral damage on the Grineer build

Replace Rupture for Toxin damage on the Corpus build

Replace Sawtooth for Fire damage on the Infested Build.

I would also personally ditch HCal for the Grineer and Void builds, and use Bane (Cryo for Void) instead. You want to be aiming for headshots and the damage loss from missed shots when using HCal is too high. This is not as applicable to the boltor, but good advice for the Soma.

Corpus and Infested I generally don't bother with Headshots. On hitscan weapons, you might consider ditching HCal for Shed for Infested, as headshots are worth it against Ancients and the punchthrough is awesome for the large packs they travel in. Again, not needed for Boltor.

I would not bother installing forma on the Boltor. I also wouldn't bother ranking and using HCal at this time - wait until after most other mods you want are fully ranked, etc Redirection and ability affecting mods.

OHHH You have Boltor Prime. Took a minute to realize as you didnt link the weapon, just the stats. In that case, forma away:

Grineer: http://goo.gl/vaXsz1

Corpus: http://goo.gl/Deefuk

Infested: http://goo.gl/u1Sjas

Void: http://goo.gl/X61MMv

Soma is similar, except no HCal, Shred for Infested, and include both primary crit mods.

You said to remove Bane of Grineer, but then you added it back :d

I guess I understand most of this now, however, would it be better to use Banes+Their corresponding weaknesses? (puncture, slash, etc) other than viral or corrosive combined? Or any of the elements combined?
