Why I'm Not Going To Bother With Kubrows

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I made a thread while back, talking about my concerns about the whole "Tamagotchi warframe" system Steve talked about with the kubrows. Now? I'm glad I never thought of even boarding the Kubrow hype train in the first place.

- Dies when you don't take care of it.

- Becomes worse the more missions it runs in a short amount of time

- Probably days of waiting before one hatches

Sorry, DE. This stuff is not for me. I have Shade and Carrier for when I need a companion, not a cool-looking goatdogllama thing that will probably need to eat nanospores all day and require me to pet it.

I'm that kind of player who plays one long session trying to get as much stuff out of it as possible and then not-playing for the rest of the day. Kubrows really don't fit my gameplay style.

The main reason why I think Kubrows came out this way is because DE listened to the majority of the internet. What does majority of the internet like? Cute animals. So DE added as much cute stuff so you care about them and say "Awww" every time, completely ruining [in my opinion] what could have been a pretty cool pet system. Majority of the people on the internet probably prefer cute stuff to stuff like actual gameplay mechanics.

There you go. That's my feedback/rant/disappointment. You think DE is going in the right direction with this cutesy/adorable Kubrow pet caring simulator? This is Warframe. A fast-paced game about killing a lot of stuff with powerful weapons. Kubrows just seem really out of place to me at least.

Edit: I should have guessed nobody would read the thread and just post "How can you not want a Kubrow?" I hate this community sometimes.

Edit #2: Nevermind, Nobody is reading this thread, just assuming I hate kubrows with all my life. Quality feedback forum.

I honestly don't know how you can say "no" to Kubrow puppies.

I'm not even going to take it on missions. I'm just going to have it be a faithful ship pet.

They are going the right direction, while it is a sci-fi game. That doesnt mean there shouldn't be any realism it. Especially when it comes down to a living creature (real or not). How would it make sense for a Kubrow to live forever?

Something else you have to realize, this is the first time DE has done this sorta thing. They arent Super humans and have the ability to get everything right the first time. No one does. It will be improved as time goes on.

I want to train mine to just.. be absolutely fierce and aggrivated that he never see's anything but the inside of my ship.  All he will eat is Tenno.  Permanent blood trail from the loading dock to the Kubrow breeding area on the floor of my ship from decieved squad members who are now dismembered!

Can we decorate our ships with fellow tenno limbs? :-)

Do you even Devstream? They showed the Kubrows killing/wounding grineer they're not just for cute look they're trying to make them as useful as possible on missions not something that you just waste resources on...

I feel the exact same way only polar opposite!

Days of waiting before one hatches

Cry me a river, everything in research requires "days of waiting"

Becomes worse the more missions it runs in a short amount of time

Alright, I agree with you here. That is kind of OTT to be fair, but it's not something I'd fret over.

Dies if you don't take care of it

If you don't take care of anything, and I mean anything, it is going to leave you or take its own initiative. Seriously, even human beings act like this...

The only thing that really rubs me the wrong way is the "getting worse with every mission" mechanic.

That makes it seem like we simply shouldn't bring them on missions in the first place.  Attack dogs being degraded into lapdogs.

That doesn't mean it's fun in a game. I mean, how would you feel if you had to go on vacation for a week only to find your kubrow died since you couldn't log in and take care of it? I'd be pretty miffed that my Tenno, apparently able to make swords and guns out of tumors, couldn't figure out how to make an automatic food dispenser for those times when I can't play.

Honestly, it's another pretty bad mechanic. I'm dubious that kubrows are going to be useful to begin with compared to something like carrier or shade. Anything that makes them more of a hassle to use is not a good thing, IMO.

I'm suddenly reminded of Wall-E, simple garbage handling robot with basic AI left alone for 600 years.

Or that they are over-powered like our Specters are, and it would make missions too easy to use them all the time.

I don't know if you realize, but warframe is not just a fast paced shooting game about killing stuff, that is how you see it.  DE is putting in many things on the side to cater to different players.  Many people love this, many want to see it go further.  Many want more warframe snap in their game.

Kuberos are not a failure and are entirely optional. If you don't like them then don't use them.  Just because these require a lot of care does NOT mean there will not be a future pet that appeals to you, this is just the start.  You don't develop a new system to only use it once.  For all we know, 4 months from now there will be the coolest knife-wielding space squid in the universe that you don't have to feed and regenerates itself.

regenerating treatments, genetic therapy, technocyte controlled mutations .... if i m a battle god who can die infinitly, i can assure you my pet will be too.

wow i didnt see that, i dont even understand. it's getting tired ? no ... what ?

Sounds like something OTHER than stupid Survival and Defense to actually do.

DE gets a +1 from me.

Anything other than RNG, Survival, Defense, and Interception is an automatic +1.

I just hope they find a balance.  I want to have a Kubrow, but I'd rather use a humble Sentinel that operates at 100% efficiency no matter how many missions I bring it on than a cute Kubrow that will get tired after a dozen runs.

I'd like if Warframe included an optional dating simulator with super kawaii girls. Mag-chan~
