inthephonebox Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 With this new T-Shirt contest soon to finish up, and being reminded of all the cool merch DE has to offer, I went browsing the merch store. I'd love to get one of those ninja hoodies, but $70? I mean, I really want it badly, but I don't want it $70 worth of badly, at least not cold hard cash. But that got me thinking, I just spent a good deal of money on plat, still have plenty left over...I wish I could just throw $70 worth of plat at them for this hoodie instead. And really, using plat instead of cash shouldn't cost them any money. I mean, the plat had to have been paid for somehow. Additionally, this would mean that the login reward plat discounts could apply to merch, and I think that would boost sales. Would you buy more merch if you could use plat/login discounts for it?

inthephonebox Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) Did you guys not read the whole post? They really wouldn't be losing money. I mean, if someone uses platinum for a merch purchase, even if they didn't buy the plat themselves and instead got it through trading, someone would have had to buy the plat in order to trade it to them. Sure, they may lose a bit of money from the applied discounts on plat, but I for one think the use of plat as an alternate payment option would promote more sales of merch, certainly enough to offset the discount. Because really, as it is, their merch is overpriced for what it is, and as you say, the import tax doesn't help. They need some kind of incentive, something to promote sales and help players feel like they are being rewarded for playing the game and advertising for them. This was a solution I know would work for me, so I thought I'd share. Edited June 21, 2014 by inthephonebox

You are right they would technically not lose money (Ignoring the discounts that is) but it is still a matter of them not having that guarantee of making the money. Here is the thing with the store, everything is so expensive because it is expensive to make I honestly doubt that DE is even making enough of a profit from the store to even make it viable. That means that every sale needs to be a 100% guarantee of making money and thus not plat. Also it is not pricey at all that is a bit below the industry average for those items so ye good quality clothes with actual designs on them cost a fare bit of money.
