Potatoes: An affectionate nickname for Orokin Reactors and Orokin Catalysts.

Before we talk about Potatoes, lets talk about noobs. Yes, those mastery 0's who are enjoying slicing Grineer in half. They start out with 50 Plat. More often than not, they end up spending that Plat on conveniently priced cosmetic items. Little do these adorable nooblords know that they will regret that choice later in their Warframe experience.

Catalysts and Reactors both cost 20 Plat. Why? We have ONE Warframe and THREE weapons. Why are they the same price? Could we not just lower the price of Catalysts to 10 Plat instead of 20. Doing so would allow us to perfect a single loadout with the 50 Plat you have generally given us DE.
"BUT NOW WE DONT MAKE NO MONEYS" - DE

Wait a sec, DE, I'm not finished. Next we increase the price of all those cosmetic items that cost 40 Plat so players don't buy them until they spend money on you because they actually like your  game.

"Okay, yea I guess that works, but how would we make these new players know about Catalysts and Reactors?" - DE

I'm glad you asked. You could add something to your new tutorial in Update 14 so these adorable folk know what to do with that 50 Plat. Make sure you Emphasize that they should wait until they find a weapon they really love.

or you could just wait for an alert an get one for free

and spend the plat on slots which are way better than potatoes

The point of giving you 50 plat is not to give you a perfect start with potatoes and weapon slots but to leave you with some leftover plat so you buy more.

Going throw out the fact that there is trading in this game, just like I did with your other thread. Plat trading makes it not such a big deal. If plat trading wasnt a thing, I could see your point. But if you sell 5-10 prime pieces to people you'll have enough plat to buy a catalyst or reactor.

Not to mentioned there is at least 2 catalyst or reactors (or 1 of each) a month die to the devstreams that are held every other week or so. And there is usually an alert for one or the other once a month by what ive seen lately. Its not that bad.

Potatoes first then slots then trading. string of thread to keep me entertained and see how the community feels about these issues :D

Since your newer you dont know but potato's are easier to come by. Slots are whats important, there are ALOT of weapons and warframes. The amount of slots you have just isn't enough to handle the decent weapons/multiple warframes a player will usually keep. Potato's are rather easy to get due to them being in alerts after streams or when your lucky an invasion.

Its actually good that they dont get them for cheaper because they will waste it on a weapon/WF that they most likely wont even use later in the game. (which is why people are saying slots are a better first option as they can buy the potato's but it will really just be a waste)

They should use that plat for weap/WF slot expansion. Not potato's, but its a learning experience. They can always make more plat

This game is 'FTP.' So it would be nice if it was designed around the idea that players would not need to buy more plat to enjoy the game. Or feel like they have to buy plat or have their progress crippled.

Thats why there is trading. You dont need to buy more plat. Buying it is just a gateway to make it a lot faster, and to support the game.
