dragon nikana does more damage, got some easy combos (just hold blocking) and is unbelievable with lifestrike.

and for me, it looks much cooler than dakra prime and dakra prime looks awesome.

Dual Ichors.

[/thread]

^This.

Of the two, I prefer Dakra Prime with Iron Phoenix. Supposedly Crimson Dervish is the best DPS and makes it better than Dragon Nikana, but I don't feel like Crimson Dervish is really applicable. Dual Ichors is easy to use and supposedly does truck loads. I'm not a numbers guy, but if I had to give a recommendation it'd be Ichors.

In my experience, Dual Ichors are great for mindless hack-n-slash (in other words ignoring the combos entirely), launching, and element based damage and procs since its base damage is Toxin. These are my personal favorite currently, with which I one-shot most enemies up to level 50ish.

Great DPS, great mobility, great stamina efficiency, but short range. Also, legend has it that they have a chance to increase in damage by 10% for some short duration with each attack. Not sure about the legitimacy of this though.

Dragon Nikana has highest base damage, but the combos are somewhat tough to master.

Top tier single hit damage, but its a little bit slower than Dual Ichors and Dakra which is made up for with its range.

I don't have the CD stance to have first hand experience, but the stance has a 3x multiplier on the first few strikes of a particular combo(?) which stacks with Radial Blind or Invisibility's 4x multiplier. With the highest base damage of the one-handed swords and considerably fast attack speed, it's arguably the highest DPS melee weapon when used with Excalibur, Loki or Ash.

Which one is it? I've heard both are similar and OP as F***, but what actually defines them? Their stances, mods, etc?

Whichever is the best, what's a good build to use on both of them?

Dakra prime, with its correct stance mod, does 3x damage on initial attacks (Ref Mogamu)

What, no Bo Prime on the list?

Pair that thing with a Rank 1 Clashing Forest and you'll have the best attacking mobility and crowd-whacking ability of any melee weapon in the game.

But as for your two weapons... it kind of depends on your Frame, I guess. If you're running a Loki, Ash, or Excal, then you'll definitely want to be going for the more mobile weapon with the faster stance (e.g. Iron Phoenix over Crimson Dervish), since you'll really be wanting to chase down enemies as quickly as possible. Plus, the damage boost (3x damage from Crimson Dervish) isn't really going to help you at all when stealth multipliers come into play; 300% of the damage of a one-hit-kill is still just a one-hit-kill.

I haven't tried Tranquil Cleave yet, but after acquainting myself with Iron Phoenix, Crimson Dervish and Decisive Judgment, I personally think that Iron Phoenix is by far the best. It's fast between swings, it's the most mobile of the three, it has two easy-to-use combos that let the user actively choose between maximum damage (EE_EEEE) and maximum mob control (EEE), it spits out Staggers like a madman, and I've found that it has far more reliable hitboxes than the second-most-mobile stance, Decisive Judgment.

If you're relying on stealth multipliers, I personally think that Iron Phoenix Dakra is the way to go. If you're running a Frame that can't force stealth multipliers, then get the weapon that hits harder-- probably Crimson Dervish Dakra, although I have yet to experience Tranquil Cleave.

(But seriously, consider the Bo Prime with Rank 1 Clashing Forest. When I use Excal, I find it easier to solo high-level Defense-type missions with nothing but a Bo than it is to use any combination of guns in the game. It's that good.)

I wasn't too keen on Dragon Nikana, but Crimson Dervish on Dakra Prime makes it killer. Of the two, my money's on Dakra.

Including other weapons, Galatine for Infested and Dual Ichors for everything else.

Yes both r OP for a Mercury / Venus player.

Why not just answer the question instead of coming across as a smug, elitist A******?

Regarding the OPs actual question, Dakra Prime would be my fist choice. I prefer the Crimson Dervish stance, but after reading some of the comments in this thread I'll be trying Iron Phoenix out again.

Also, Dual Ichor, as mentioned, are amazing and worth a look.

These replies are awesome, but still have me confused which one is the actual best DPS damage dealing weapon. I know some people have opinions, but with any mods and any stances, which does deal max DPS?

Crimson Dakra>Dragon Nikana>Iron Dakra

Pretty much this.

To OP:

Crimson Dervish on Dakra Prime has the absolute highest damage per swing.

DPS on melee weapons is hard to calculate if you have to take mods into calculations

Top melee weapons are Dakra prime (with crimson dervish) for highest dmg, then there's the dragon nikana, and orthos prime has good dmg and huge range. Ichors are also pretty GG. Dual zoren are just a bit below ichors now too.

Jat kittag is pretty solid as well. Dat jump attack aoe.

I imagine Serro and Bo prime are also pretty solid choices but ps4 don't have them yet.

My personal favorite is probably orthos prime. It's got long reach, great dmg, it's jump attack has a huge aoe knockdown and its still fast enough to not need fury even with spoiled strike. Plus it just looks cool. Not as cool as plain orthos but still pretty damn cool.
