LongIron Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I know the stalker is the bane of most players but I am hoping there could be some sort of infested juggernaut, objective change from his spawn and all you have to do is evade the hell out of it as it rampages through. Maybe include it as some type of deception to take you away from the infested 'plans'. I seem to remember some talk on a juggernaut-type enemy from the last livestream, is there any more info on it?
Letter13 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I dunno. Getting invaded by a level 1248 Stalker while fighting infested enemies whose levels are in the hundreds is pretty fear inducing, especially when said infested will down/kill you in 1 hit and the stalker can dispel your invisibility/cloak.
Destroyalord7 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Not much information has been given out on the infested juggernaut. It's probably just a giant infested mob. A 'run-the-heck-away' kinda part in a mission might be a bit weird, because Tenno kill everything they see. Eventually.
Psychotoxin Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Though something actually feeling claustrophobic and creepy might be nice... liked the new tilesets from the Breeding Grounds event. but it would need a tad less lights and a bit more creepiness...

Well, we still haven`t destroyed the Neural Sentry in the Void, and you could say that it`s the main enemy in the towers...

Frustration inducing more like... Dumb mechanics on top of dumb mechanics. Just like RNG now that I think about it... Big numbers aren't scary. Potential one shot isn't scary. The stalker can be scary, not because of his level or crazy damage, but because he warns you, plays with you. That is a good way to induce fear, or at least a form of unease. You know he's coming, nothing you can do about it. If DE made him a real fight, not just a "who instagibs who first", I would be a very happy Tenno.^^

--Q--Mark Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I want a big Infested Humanoid enemy that can pass through walls and has a very high health and armor but lot speed (like 0.5). He appears in any map after you have done multiple Infestation Runs (like invasion). There should also be some kind of disturbance in your vision as he is getting close (like slenderman) (maybe add ground shaking effects on the camera) and a very eerie BGM to couple it with.
Eidolon_Slayer Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Maybe add some pretty creepy/fear inducing beats when an assassin appears (G3, Zanuka, Stalker). Like when slenderman is nearby.
Renegade343 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Well, one fear would be having three or more Mutalist-Ospreys waiting for you and creating toxic clouds on you just when you open a door (which happened to me on my first solo Breeding Grounds Mission, and it scared the crap out of me).
MayPeX Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Maybe add some pretty creepy/fear inducing beats when an assassin appears (G3, Zanuka, Stalker). Like when slenderman is nearby. Have no music, strip sound away from the player. Create a "perceived silence". We today are so engrossed with sound, it's everywhere. When you take away that sensory it can be unsettling to some. It's like if you can hear something, you know it's alive and/or it's on. When it goes quiet it can be a case of "Where is it? Somethings broken/turned off?" Or like you said, more fear inducing beats/sounds. Some granular synthesis processing, non-linear sounds. Don't give it a rhythm, have no tempo, irregular harmonics. Don't make it sound like music. Creating fear in a game particularly like Warframe is difficult. Everyone is used to powerful weapons, abilities etc. Once you take them away from a fast paced game it can turn into frustration rather than fear. Games that give you little means of fighting back to begin with work better because you already know you can't do much. Sound is a powerful tool, but over the years of game/film development it's difficult to really scare people anymore. Our brains know that the game isn't reality, nothing in it can harm us. What might be quite nice for the Stalker in particular. Before the Stalker arrives have a "doors have been locked" moment, the game stops spawning AI. When the players over-ride the systems the next tile is empty, no enemies. The Stalker can either be waiting the moment the doors open or appear in the next room. That itself brings the question of Power Creep. To some players it's a easy kill with their weapons. Others not so. Warframe is difficult to balance.
LongIron Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 Sound is possibly the easiest option for them.. stunning silence and Hunter-like screams from L4D2 as it gets closeer to you before spawning... easy enough, just need something.
