Awww, They Fixed The Volt Shield Projectile To Hit-Scan Bug.

Well... I guess it was an unintended side-effect of Volt's shield, so it could be considered a bug, so it was inevitable that it would be fixed...

But still, I am sad to see it go.

Sad face.

EDIT:

Turns out this only goes for Projectile weapons. Lanka and Supra are no longer hit-scan.

Synapse, Amprex and Flux weapons still work, but those were kind of(but not quite) hit-scan to begin with...
They get to keep their 50m range with the Volt Shield though, rejoice!

What exactly does hit scan mean?

I don't understand what the effect was :o

hit-scan is a method of tracking where you shoot.  unlike projectiles, the weapon uses direct line from the barrel until it collides with something, hopefully an enemy.  In a single frame (instantaneous, essentially) the "bullet" travels from your barrel to the collision point.

Basically, it's an instant travel time projectile.

Edit: In most games, practically every gun to ever fire conventional bullets are hit-scan.  It's fairly unnecessary to calculate the trajectory of a bullet when in practice it's going to fire in a straight line anyways.  This was also a way to preserve processing power back in older games like Doom, Duke Nukem, etc.

basically, what's happening here, is the shield would take the projectile that collided with it, calculate it's path, and convert it to a hit-scan shot instead.  You could take something like the Tetra, which has actual projectiles, and convert them into instantaneous hit-scan gunfire.

Basically when you point your crosshair to it, the moment you let go of the trigger, bullet hits the target without any delay and if i remember right some weapons like Flux and that electric-infested rifle had Hitscan red crits which made volt really good for leveling up those stuff.

It was a feature, now the removal is probably a bug.

Hope they fix it soon enough.

Sauce: Been playing as Volt for half a year now.

I really really hope for this to be a bug, I also know this to be a feature but then, we had Torid for almost 4 months with the elemental damages ignoring armor, and Accelerated Blast giving puncture damage for almost three months until was recognized as not intended. If DE decides to call this a non intended feature, I would be a little mad but not really surprised.

gotcha thanks for clearing that up, I've heard the term multiple times but never understood what it meant.

Wait, it was a feature? I always thought it was a very useful bug that was too insignificant for DE to deal with.

Now I am confused... :|

Let's make it cleared out; what feature/bug do you thought that was removed?

whattttt no. are you sure?

I wen't back and triple-tested it.

Seems like continuous-type weapons like Synapse, Flux Weapons and Amprex remain unaffected, but Lanka and Supra and other projectile energy-weapons no longer turn hit-scan upon hitting the shield.

That a projectile hitting the shield turned the projectile into hit-scan, was a bug... Is what I thought. I didn't think it was an intended feature.

THAT one? It's totally a feature, so if somehow it doesn't work it was defintely a bug.

Knowing how long it takes for DE to "fix" things, this useful feature could very well have been unintended.

I say add it back. Energizing and accelerating projectiles makes sense from a thematic standpoint, anyway.

Well crap, no wonder why I didn't notice any change to my Supra's shots when shooting through the shield.

GG. I'll still use my Supra, but this makes me sad. :c

Apparently it was a feature, so it's removal is a bug. Maybe it'll get fixed? :D
