The solution I have thought up might not fit what you have in mind, so feel free to give me your opinions as well as contributing great ideas. I will not be touching on RNG in this post :) So we switch up from the long strings of EEPauseEEEE stuff. This game is supposed to be quick, and investing so much time into combos like that will only lead to us getting locked down by the fast surrounding grineer (which tends to happen often whenever I try to use bleeding willows fancy combo). "Well just practice the combo, so you get it right each time." No can do considering even if I get the combo right, I get stuck in an animation which I can't easily cancel while be pummeled by 4 Heavy Gunners. So. Whatever can we do about it? Lets come up with something!

Second off if that combo gives you problems good luck playing a fighter game third what are you doing trying to melee 4 heavy gunners in the first place. At a certain level that's not smart at all and you deserve to be hurt.

At a certain level that's not smart at all and you deserve to be hurt. Because its more fun to kill gunners with Serro than with Boltor. More satisfying too. Sure its fun to see them ragdoll against a wall, but one shotting them with Serro is just as fun.

Lets come up with something! how about not equiping melee and just spam EEEEEEEEEEEEEE that work out pretty well for me.

But then I can't channel and get the most out of my weapon. Channeling is one of the main ways I get Serro to 1 shot Heavy Gunners on Tier 4 Survival until 30 minutes.

Best solution with melee is Slide>channel> slash and repeat. Yes it takes pratice but I end up pretty good with it. With pratice and timing you can take down a mob more swiftly than you can with gun. Give you a hint every time you slide past a monster they stop and have to adjust and re-aim. So if you spam it range monster cant really hit you.

darthdart Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I never played before the combo stuff happened. But these pause combos, are really dumb imo. Sure they look cool if you can manage to get them to come out. Tried doin one of the lesser scythe stance combos where you throw it kinda like War in Darksiders, couldn't get it to come out. I can do other pause combos and whatnot, just not those dang scythe ones. It'd be nice if there was some kinda indicator or effect or sound that let you know you were ready with a certain combo. I don't go melee only much though but I'm sure the beginner/new players that will wanna be a ninja or whatever and find their first stance mod, they'd appreciate some kinda indicator.

A famous quote from some famous general " if you set your self up for a fair fight, you didn't prepair enough" Melee is a unique combat style, if you just want to spam EEEEEE and kill everything that isn't really skill at all. Its amost the same as using a rifle/ any gun and spam LMB. Slide slash, wall attack, jump smash, and freaking blocking bullets give you another playing field. If you aren't using all of those skills to dispatch your enemies you aren't really enjoying the new melee system.

I actually am using those systems. :) What I ultimately want is a button to replace the HOLD and PAUSE effects. Why can't I map those HOLD and PAUSE to R for melee form only? What am I gonna use R for anyways? Reload my sword (don't take this as a reason not to put in a gunlance DE)?

By holding down a direction key other than forward it breaks the animation and thus the pause. Works every time. And for the Holding down E I have no tip for that just practice the timing.

Babalenong Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 i agree combos need some rework to be able to be more easily pulled off, since in the heat of the battle you cant just look at your character animation and find the right time to pull off a combo just to get 1.1-1.5x damage, might as well spam slide attack
Spellcasterz Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Short combos like the one you named really arent a problem,longer ones though certainly are (like EEEE,E+Block,EE). There is a reason why good spectacle fighters put great work in the visual variation of of their standard strings(so you dont have to count down every single click and can just go by the animation)and Warframe just doesnt do that. All standard strings look utterly samey(if they even have variation and dont just alternate between their two normal meele animations)and button input just doesnt work well enough to get off combos everytime(at last not if you go down the mash route instead of counting and precisely timing your button prompts). Pretty much makes me stay away from any stance that goes beyond EE+combo inputs.

(as in, now melee is definetly better/more fun than before) it definetly could use some more love, the frantic button smashing to pull off the combos, as you state, could definetly be bettere, imo, the combos should be pulled off using just 3 button presses, and yeah, bring back the heavy/charged attatcks too, And another important issue, is that melee still dosent scale well compared to just using your guns instead, when you start to encounter lvl 40+ enemies, melee just dosent kill them fast enough anymore, even with the combo multipliers. so the multipliers needs to be buffed or somthing.
