Althix Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Good day, Anyway i made my some kind of brief return to this game after beating NG10 at DkS2. Loki Prime and stuff. After standing at T4 survival solo for 40 minutes i just couldn't shake this feeling of how badly game is designed in terms of mechanics, after all that period of time. When a developer is trying to make "new player's experience" better for a year and a half as it now. Funny enough if you look at damage 2.0 and melee 2.0 from a perspective, in general these two mechanics are not that bad. Unfortuantely their implementation with current game mechanics, is like to impose a plaster on the festering wound. And the reason why it's this way rather simple. Because in the end, mobs are nothing more than a bullet sponges. Armor value is growing, health pool, damage output is scaling as well. Which leads us to very simple solution of how to survive long enough against these mobs. Solution is not to take damage at all, and on this background trinity's nerf looks especially silly. As we all know, in order to match "neverending" scaling of effective hp of the mobs we are forced to use pretty much standart algorithm of building a weapon. Serration + another damage mod+ another damage mod+ elementals or critical mods, and at the end we really don't have mod slots left to actually use let say faster reload mod or more ammunition mod and some other mods which actually exist in the game but for the most time you never use them. Because there is little sense in that, when you are forced to make your build in a certain way. All of it comes down from this bullet sponges mechanics this game use. And why mobs should actually scale in their effective hp and damage when there are better ways to make them harder to fight? For example to limit their hp and armor scaling at certain point, but make them more accurate, adjusting their weapons to match critical chance and status chance to the player's arsenal. For example level 1 Grineer Lancer with Hind may have a basic Hind, when level 40 Grineer Lancer may have a 60 mod points Hind with augmented status chance and better fire rate? You see with introduction of damage 2.0 and later updates when status chance have a very huge impact on the perfomance of the player, because status effects gives us a significant advantage in the battle. Developer instead of ruining a good idea, could change entire approach on how combat mechanics works. For example they could remove pure damage mods like Serration, which would leave players only with elemental mods and status/crit chance mods, but giving some space for further freedom in building a weapon. It also would be a good call to restrict usage of elemental mods all together. Like no more than 4 of unique type. Which in most cases would be a good call, given that you may utilize another 4 slots for something else. Because this entire of slapping more damage by any means necessary, developer is resticting us on ability to make something personal from our weapon and at the same time such hard restriction is also making all new systems, like melee 2.0 useless and meaningless. This also makes some frames superior to others, which means that if a players very enjoy playing let say Oberon, will be forced to use Rhino or Vauban, because Oberon is simply a bad frame with the mechanics this game uses. So if developer would make a status and crit chance to play a bigger role in the game, with removing effective hp sclaing and damage output scaling from the mobs. By fixing it at certain level, this may give players opportunity to play with weapons they like and with frames they like. This may give player base the opportunity to create weapon build they like, instead of weapon build they are forced to use. Melee 2.0 as concept is a great idea. However, again, because of scaling mechanics, using melee against level 1000+ heavy gunner is a very silly idea. Which means, such a great idea as melee combos and stances is wasted. Simply because there is little reason to use melee weapon. I managed to kill level 50 Cpt.Vor with my Nikana, but it took a way to much time. When i could just waste this mob with a bolter in less than 30 seconds. With fixing effective hp of the mobs at certain level would make melee combat a viable strategy. Also armor of the warframe. This parametr have no value, because at the end of the day it hardly matters will my warframe fall from one bullet or two. You will fall from a highleve mob, armor won't save you at all. Level 50 corrupted gunner can strip your shield and hp very quick, and level 100+ will do that even faster. So instead of making armor useless, maybe developer should give it some other properties. Like ignoring status/crit effect or making high armored frame less susceptible to these effects? For example frame with 15 armor would take 50 damage per tick from a slash dot, when a frame with 250 armor would only take 5 damage? You see dearest Digital Extremes whatever you do in order to improve one sub-system or another, have little sense or impact on overall gameplay because core mechanic of this game remains the same. And i will repeat myself, by not improving core of the combat mechanics, you not only making all these changes meaningless, but you also deny your player base a flexibility and freedom to make personal builds and to play frames people like to play. You have on your hands several mechanics of how to improve combat, but you dump them in the swamp of outdated, not thought out core mechanic, which not only broken at some aspect but also boring. There are many means how to improve gaming experience of your player base, and you have these means on your hands. Why you are not using it? Or you use them in some strange and pointless way? Or you have some very strange ideas (like making, let say Serration mod, to have different tiers from common to prime). Just try to think on things from a gaming perspective for a change. Yes i understand that personal ship and a dog are great, i am pretty sure we will have personal ship's decorations as well. for platinum. Sure ok, i will bite. But could you please turn warframe from a steamrolling grindfest to something better by a gameplay perspective as well? Cheers.
