Roughcut Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) Been thinking... most people don't like certain combos when it comes to specific stances. A big one of these common dislikes is the forward combo for Crossing Snakes. Considering the common disdain for these combos, not just limited to that specific one, how about implementing a new feature, which allows players to enable/disable certain combos for certain stances as they see fit? I know I'm not the only one who doesn't want to keep their Crossing Snakes stance at level one because they don't want the useless forward combo. Just putting it out there, let me know what you think. I don't know if this has been suggested before, and I don't even know if this is the thread where this goes, but I'm throwing it out to the wilds. -Roughcut Edited June 26, 2014 by Roughcut
GreyEnneract Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Combos should just be default E Hold Forward while pressing E And Hold Right Click while pressing E Makes them all easy
Beas7ie Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Combos should just be default E Hold Forward while pressing E And Hold Right Click while pressing E Makes them all easy That and make a new "heavy attack" that can also be comboed. Like use the Reload Key "R". Right next to E so they'd be easy to combo and you don't need to reload melee weapons. Makes combos fast and easy. EERRERE There you go, new super combo and you don't have to F*** around with that pausing or pressing backward crap just to pull off your fancy combo.
Roughcut Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 I like that idea, even better. As you said "R" is not needed in melee, so this is a good way to re-implement heavy attacks.
Tekknoir Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 The game's default controls are pretty rough. I spent an hour trying out different mappings when I started playing and eventually got to something comfortably playable. While streamlining the combos would be great, extending melee system to rely on the reload key is not ideal. Moving around with WASD and performing combos with E and R is not exactly great on usability. I see melee 2.0 combos as a design misstep. I wish DE would look into a melee 3.0 some time down the line and simplify the inputs. Look at how the game is being played and distribute combo animations to movement states instead of long chains with complex inputs. For example, if a stance has 3 unique combos: * Convert one to an air combo (jump and mash melee) * Another one to start from crouching * Last one to a sprint attack / quick combo
Roughcut Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Ultimately my main suggestion was to just be able to add and remove combos from specific stances as you see fit, mainly in response to the incredibly annoying forward combos seen in certain stances (I'm looking at you, Lacerating Leap).
Duk282 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) Combos should just be default E Hold Forward while pressing E And Hold Right Click while pressing E Makes them all easy They need to get rid of the pauses and replace them with something like this. Latency is a major issue in trying to get combos to fire. It doesn't feel like it skill -it feels like luck. Edited June 27, 2014 by Duk282
