How Does Trinity Link / Penta / Quick Thinking Work?

Question

Posted

I tried to do this, and simply killed myself every time?

is the idea to have max health/shields/armor +450 energy *2.4 + link and then Nerf your penta down to the point where it doesn't one shot you?

so 2520 hp with link 75% reduction should allow a 7.5k penta to hit me and not kill?

Quick thinking putting me on 1 health, letting me activate blessing for 99% reduction?

apart from making my penta so pathetic it only deals 7k damage....  this still killed me?

I watched this being done, patch 13.8.5 (only vs low level infested) but can't figure out how to do it, outside of nerfing my penta to the point where its no longer really worth it.

am I missing something here?

do I need to lower my HP and activate blessing first?

perhaps I need an unranked stugg to start the process?

Seems like the idea is to kill yourself, survive with only 2 health thanks to quick thinking, then proceed to the usual Blessing + Link

But why? Forcing that on yourself for 15-30 seconds of almost invulnerability is pointless.

Even more so now that blessing isn't godmode.

You're better off monitoring your teams health and popping blessing when needed. using energy vampire and link along the way, and WOL if you have an actual opportunity.

In otherwords, killing stuff and playing the game rather then messing around with loopholes.

because you can reactivate it once its running for perma 99% damage reduction for the team, not to mention the triple damage bonus, and auto aim on link.

I pretty sure when those 2700 infested crawlers hit me for somewhere around 4000k, that even 99% reduction is pointless, but still..

I was less interested in the ethics of using poorly designed game features, and more wondering how players currently using this are doing it.

As far as I know only you would get the 99% dmg reduction and the dmg reduction your team mates receive would be based of how much blessing healed them for. In other words, the dmg reduction is separate for everyone in the team based on their health. I'm fairly sure thats right.

Wait, triple dmg bonus? How are you getting a dmg bonus from blessing/link etc?

Either I'm missing something here or...

I assume he was talking about the 3 links -> 3 enemies hit -> dmg x3 ?

In truth a Penta is a bad choice for inflicting self-damage; it's just too strong.  Castanas or Angstrum are probably ideal though because they can deal partial amounts of their damage potential.

As for self-damaging and using Blessing being pointless, a long duration Blessing grants the entire team 99% immunity and with Link makes you invulnerable.  Hardly pointless unless you are the selfish type.

Also, a short duration Blessing doesn't do much when a teammate has already died.  Even the most responsive Trinity players won't be able to save everyone using Blessing spam.  As a result, making the players have 99% damage reduction is preferred for keeping your team alive, especially in high level content.

Lastly, as noted by others, Blessing combos with Link just as it previously did to give Trinity an offensive option.  This means you can use your self-damage weapon to triple your output until the enemies no longer take substantial damage, then you can rely on reflecting damage taken.

EDIT:  And WoL is pretty pointless since Blessing instantly heals everyone anyway.

Stug is popular with trinity players going for self damage builds because it's very controllable in terms of damage inflicted.

The only problem with Stug is that you need to wait for the damage to be inflicted which leaves your entire team vulnerable.  While this extra second may not seem significant it can often result in several downed players since they tend to get lazy with a good Trinity in the group.  Castanas are perhaps the most efficient since you can mod for +100% multishot providing very consistent damage.

Stug or Castanas are the best way to go about this. Stug is a bit trickier to set off the QT in between (gotta fire while still immune and run over the glob on the floor right after Blessing wears off) but is the better self nuke due to smaller distributions of damage. Need a click macro too to make it shine.

In fact, Stug and Castanas both can be modded low enough in single shot damage without losing much DPS than you can abandon Vital+Redirection too and just use QT. This frees up slots for more range, etc.

You want to avoid using cold damage *(and especially radiation) as you will proc on yourself with the Stug, not totally sure about other weapons. I used Corrosive/Rad once and wiped out my whole team in a half second, rofl.

Is this still true ?  I haven't been able to proc myself with radiation since U13.  At least from 13-13.3 I haven't seen any radiation procs inflicted by Tenno.  I have seen radiation procs from the void laser traps.

Yeah, it was a long time ago, before these blessing changes. I've been sure to avoid it since then, so I haven't actually checked if it can still happen. I know cold will still proc and its really annoying so I stopped using Ice Storm. I think I kinda remember something about rad not proccing on yourself anymore in one of the patch notes, actually.
