Zaresin Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Wall of text, I apologize now I know this was discussed in the Design Council when DE first approached the council about creating a new sentinel before carrier was ever carrier. One of the mods discussed was Vacuum (that it ended up getting despite all the feedback to make vacuum a universal precept). I would like to approach that subject again and I hope it gets some traction. Currently, I as a player feel unnecessarily punished if I do not have carrier equiped as a sentinal. I would love to use my new deathcube skin, but again I feel punished. I would love to use wrym prime with djinn weapon, but again I feel punished. Why do I feel punished you ask? Because how often have you ran with a nova, or a zephyr or a hydroid who have killed things or done an ODD and if you didn't have carrier on you missed out on loot. Thing is you almost always have to have carrier on (at least he can look like a parrot now rather than a part of a man's anatomy thats a plus at least) or you miss out on important drops that you hardly ever knew were there till you got to the status screen and were like...oh nifty I have an orokin cell. I always feel sorry for the guy that didn't' have carrier equipped as he usually missed out on the cells or a rare stance mod. Heck I had loaded into a area just as zanuka died and ended up with a receiver (granted I have three when I need that damn barrel) but didn't even know it till I got done with the mission. My proposal for a revamp of our sweet little dangly bits affectionally (and ironically) known as carrier. Make Vacuum a universal precept. To replace the precept that carrier: Repubesco (Latin for rejuvinate) Means to render young again Every 45(30 sec pref) seconds can remove a negative status element from the tenno owner. As we are coming across more dangerous status effects that are effecting us more drastically (but are still easily avoided if careful, but you know....rushers gotta love em...or love to revive them). This option would give us options and a way to give players a way to help deal with those times that we screw up or have a total horror movie moment when you go through that door and you have a toxic/eviscerator/toxic osprey right in your face wanting to make kissy face as it will happen even to the best of us. The vacuum mod would allow players to use different sentinels and not feel like they are gimped or have to stress about missing out on something every mission.
BrotherIcarus Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 After a good couple minutes of deep thinking I still see no reason why you cannot just look for then pick up the loot yourself if you don't want to use carrier? I mean I stopped using carrier because I finally got sick of him constantly blocking my damn camera and well I just play like I did before I had carrier.

You're right that we all can search out mods or resources, but using the example given warframes like zephyr, hydroid, and nova or any frame that is capable of room wide destruction, how many times have you ran without carrier and missed out on something someone else got and didn't' tell you about because they were busy killing things but their carrier picked up? Carrier is a cheap sentinel and does tend to make us lazy. Do you tend to copter through missions? Do you stop and pick up all drops or do you pick and choose what to pick up or be like "no thats too far to grab without falling behind my group and losing out on xp or other loot because i didn't see them die". Carrier will pick that up and more (even stuff that isn't' in our line of site but in his and sometimes behind walls that we didn't' even know was there). I don't fancy spending the majority of my time hunting for possible loot when I would like to be able to kill things then make them wait at extract while I GO ON THE NEVER ENDING QUEST TO SAVE MY LOOT. Zerrien Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 If they made a Warframe Mod for "4 Meter Radial Pickup" +1 per level, ~4-5 levels, it'd be equipped on every serious player in the game.
Zaresin Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 If they made a Warframe Mod for "4 Meter Radial Pickup" +1 per level, ~4-5 levels, it'd be equipped on every serious player in the game. I don't think it should be a warframe mod, it should def stay a sentinel mod. But I do believe it should be a universal mod rather than exclusive to one sentinel. For all the hard work the people at DE put in on all the sentinels and the kubros we will be getting, having one sentinel that is pretty much universally used over all the others should tell DE that their original stance on the idea that was posed to the design council so long ago had some serious flaws.
Zerrien Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 I'm actually very interested in the actual usage statistics for the various Sentinels. While releasing new Warframes/Sentinels are easy $$$ for DE, I wonder if the designers are the least bit concerned that some are used way more often than others. Wonder how many people use Carriers, vs the other Sentinels. How many Sentinels are unlocked, total, (e.g. 25% have Carrier unlocked, 24% have Wyrm unlocked, etc,) how many people use different Sentinels for different missions. Is Carrier king on Survival? Etc... I wonder if we asked, if they would show us the numbers..

I don't fancy spending the majority of my time hunting for possible loot when I would like to be able to kill things then make them wait at extract while I GO ON THE NEVER ENDING QUEST TO SAVE MY LOOT. It's not that hard. I mean really. Is it so hard to just simply pay attention to where enemies are dying? You get these nice experience notifications that inform you of where things are dying so you can go check those places for loot. besides, carriers loot radius isn't that big. Anything that Carrier actually picks up you'd have to be rushing past or blind to miss. I usually get all the loot the group gets, and many times i'll pick up more loot than my carrier touting allies since I pay more attention to where enemies are dying, while using my Dethcube. Personally, I hate using carrier due to the waste of resources he causes. Sucking up energy orbs while disrupted is extremely detrimental, and picking up energy orbs when you're only missing 1 energy is just wasteful. Same goes for ammo. On the other hand, I really wouldn't care if vacuum were made a universal precept. I wouldn't use it myself. The only problem then is, what does Carrier get now to make himself unique? Sradaki Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Just my 2 cents, what if Carrier could store lootable things for later use, life, energy, or ammo. Higher ranks would increase it's storage capacity. (in the case of ammo storage, only store for which your warframe has equiped. No picking up sniper if a shotgun is equiped etc.) Another idea could be a mod that acts much like master thief, unlocking locked lockers, or possibly seeking out and opening containers.
