Question

Posted (edited)

I'm debating if I should switch to Rejuvenation since nobody in our group uses it, though I don't want to lose out on the damage if Steel Charge is actually useful on Valkyr. I tried looking around but all I see are a few people saying the increase is minimal, though I can't find anything conclusive since Melee 2.0 probably changed a lot of opinions.

So my question: Is Steel Charge actually worth using besides for the extra mod points?

If 4 players equip it, it's like everyone in the party having an additional 2 pressure points... it makes a huge difference. As the others said, its only useful if you're going to be using melee a lot.

Find a party of 4 and agree to go melee only with 4 steel charges, and you'll see some hilariously big damage figures.

You're damage will be much better however if you use Corrosive Projection against Grineer.

Steel Charge adds 60% damage, on top of the 120% from Pressure Point and 100% from Spoiled Strike.

This is a 60% increase on top of a 320% total, or a damage increase of 18.75%. Its not that impressive, but its the only one of the +damage% mods worth using, especially because of the 4 extra mod points it supplies. It will NOT currently affect the damage done by Hysteria - it used to and was removed with no patch note so we're all hoping its a bug (all power strength and melee % damage not working anymore)

Corrosive Projection will add ~30-40% damage to armored enemies at higher levels, and works on all damage done, not just melee attacks.

Energy Siphon will add 0.6 energy per second, or one extra channeled attack every 1.2 seconds, or +110%/1.2sec = +92% damage using an efficiency build. Or one Channel every 8.3 seconds, or +50%/8.3 = +6% damage on a non-channel build

Basically, feel free to add formas to convert the slot to a -. Use CP against armored targets for a significant damage boost, or use Energy Siphon against Corpus and Infested to use abilities more frequently or channel attack more often.

Thanks for that! "60% damage increase" and people saying "it's minimal" was causing most of the confusion when looking up what people thought of Steel Charge, but that cleared it up. 18.75% is actually quite a lot, though I feel it would still be worthwhile using an aura that benefits the team aside from a member having higher DPS.
