Having smaller joints does make your muscles look bigger however, and gives you a more graceful apollonian figure rather than a square herculean one. Also, I think what you're looking at is the lower part of his upper arm, I think the elbow joint itself is in the top part of that large plate covering his hands to his forearm, which may explain why it looks so weird.
