This is a thread where we look at all the frames and try to figure out who's "good" and who's "bad."

Keep in mind that this isn't perfect, and try to restrict criticism to the constructive type.

Each frame is rated on each of the labeled capabilities that are listed below.

= Capabilities =

(RDAM) Raw Damage - How much raw damage the frame can pump out
(IDAM) Damage Increase to Enemy - How well the frame amplifies damage done to enemies
(CC__) Crowd Control - How well the frame keeps large crowds of mobs from attacking or working against the tenno
(SURV) Self Survivability - How well the frame keeps itself alive without support from allies
(TSUR) Team Survivability - How well the frame keeps its team alive
(MOB_) Mobility - How mobile the frame is

Okay damage and not a whole lot of CC, but can protect self and team extremely well with Globe. Low sprint speed and lack of mobility abilities leads to low mobility.

With Tempest Barrage, Tentacle Swarm, and Undertow, Hydroid can CC three different areas at once, at the cost of having to use three abilities while other frames just need one. Tidal Surge provides mobility and damage avoidance during use.

Shield Polarize deals heavy damage to the shielded corpus, but is only useful against grineer and infested for defensive purposes. Crush has decent CC capabilities, while Pull spamming can keep mobs of enemies ragdolled.

- Nekros -
(RDAM) **
(IDAM) **
(CC__) **
(SURV) **
(TSUR) **
(MOB_) **

Terrify is decent CC, but isn't very good beyond making a handful of nearby enemies flee and reducing their armor. SotD creates meat puppets to shield the Tenno and provide fire support, and Desecrate can provide health and energy orbs for recovery.

- Nova -
(RDAM) **
(IDAM) *****
(CC__) ****
(SURV) **
(TSUR) **

While lacking in raw damage, Nova is a god at damage amplification with M Prime and Antimatter Drop, and can CC well with the slow effect of M Prime. Worm Hole provides great mobility for Nova and the rest of the team.

- Nyx -
(RDAM) *
(IDAM) ****
(CC__) *****
(SURV) ****
(TSUR) ****
(MOB_) **

Absorb is able to turn all damage thrown at Nyx and turn it into a large AoE, dealing more damage the stronger and more numerous the enemies are. Chaos makes all enemies fight amongst each other, offering powerful CC and keeping the gunfire off of her allies.

- Oberon -
(RDAM) **
(IDAM) *
(CC__) **
(SURV) ***
(TSUR) **
(MOB_) **

Renewal is okay at keeping Oberon heathly, but can be slow at healing and reaching enemies, making it a poor ability for reactive healing. Reckoning's Radiation damage is only effective against grineer, but offers mild CC with its slam dunk and occasionally drops health orbs on kills.

- Rhino -
(RDAM) ***
(IDAM) ***
(CC__) ***
(SURV) ****
(TSUR) **
(MOB_) ***

Stomp has low damage for an ult, but has good CC. Roar provides a good damage buff for Rhino and allies, and Iron Skin is a strong damage buffer to protect Rhino that can be quickly recast. Rhino Charge offers good damage and decent mobility, while Rhino Primes and Rhino Primes with Arcane Vanguard helms are quite mobile.

- Saryn -
(RDAM) ****
(IDAM) *
(CC__) ***
(SURV) ***
(TSUR) **
(MOB_) *

Miasma and Venom have good damage, and Saryn has good CC abilities with Miasma and Molt. Her high health, armor, and CC gives her good survivability, but low sprint speed and lack of mobility skills leads to low mobility.

- Trinity -

(CC__) *
(SURV) ****
(TSUR) ***

- Valkyr -
(RDAM) ***

(CC__) **
(SURV) *****
(TSUR) **
(MOB_) ***

Extremely high armor, high HP, and Hysteria turning Valkyr completely invincible, Valkyr is a god at keeping herself alive. Warcry will also buff Valkyr and ally armor and attack speed, offering some support to the team, and Ripline allows Valkyr to get to hard-to-reach places.

- Vauban -
(RDAM) *
(IDAM) *
(CC__) ****
(SURV) **
(TSUR) **
(MOB_) **

Bastille and Vortex spam can let Vauban control large areas, but ranged enemies out of those areas can still gun down the squishy engineer.

- Volt -

Electric Shield still allows Volt to greatly amplify damage, and with the shield's increased size and no durability limit, it does well to provide cover for Volt and the team. Speed buffs Volt and nearby allies with much faster movement and melee speeds, offering good mobility.

- Zephyr -

Warframes in most need of work:

Nekros
Oberon

Both of those frames excel at nothing and don't perform very well at the things that they do.

+1 to all of this.

This is a perfect analysis of the frames and how they can be used.

Rhino is better than Frost with his iron skin, which allows a fair bit of strafing that negates weak knockdowns.

While I do agree that the mobility and knockdown resist on Iron Skin are great, Frost can withstand much heavier damage with Globe, and Globes can be stacked as well. Rhino is a heavily armored mounted knight, but Frost is an unmoving fortress.

You severely underrated Rhino on a lot of points.

His crowd control is on point, and he has pretty high raw damage. Not to mention he's a very survivable Warframe, and he has a decent damage amplifying ability (Iron Skin and Roar, respectively).

There's no need to stack globes, and unmoving is the exact reason why I don't rank Frost up there. Especially self survivalbility.

Rhino's Raw Damage proficiency level increased from 2 to 3, and Self Survivability increased from 3 to 4, taking into account mobility and CC capabilities.

However, his CC capabilities don't quite reach Nyx, Excal, Vauban, or Nova's, so it was left at 3.

Damage increase capabilities also do not approach Nyx, Nova, or Banshee levels, so also left at 3.

However, Rhino has taken Frost's spot in the Top Self-Survivability Frames tier.

Why is valkyr not a mobility frame? Have you tried coptering with warcry?

While Valkyr can coptor well with Warcry and a fast melee weapon, she still doesn't get the mobility flexibility that Zephyr and Nova have.

Nice, this thread really is helpful, both for some advanced players and new comers.

but...

(sorry for being so fan-boy-ish... and butthurt :D) but how come Nyx, be less mobile than Rhino? Doesn't really make sense in my mind, Nyx has a sprint speed of 1.1 and Rhino's is 0.9 (I never feel as fast and agile with Rhino as I do with Nyx)

Rhino's mobility is taking into account the prime variant (with a sprint speed of 1.0), Rhino Charge as a mobility skill, and the possibility of the player having the Vanguard helm.

Nyx has a higher base sprint speed, but doesn't have anything to further boost mobility.

Or maybe it's just my opinion... after all, I've spent ~400 hours with Nyx, maybe I just got too good and used to her :)

I swear, people rate hydroid by only two of his abilities...

For mobility he's got a cheap, 50 cost mobility skill with an invulnerability and a CC component, and yet he's rated on the same level as every frame with no mobility skills what-so-ever.

For self survivability he's got a puddle that costs practically nothing, can be used whenever his shields get low or needs to reload and has the added benefits of CC and damage on any enemy nearby. Honestly should rate him just as high as Nyx for self survivability, especially with his higher base armor and shields.

If I'm running survivals on my Hydroid, I literally don't go down until I try to pick someone else up. His self survivability should be higher, but his team survivability I would actually rate as decent rather than good. No massively effective AoE CC or invulnerability skills he can use while reviving generally leaves him sitting like a duck.

Speaking of Team survivability, how is Trinity not 4 or 5 stars? Free energy and regular heals for the entire team with one of the best damage mitigation skills in the game? If you're reviving someone, Pop link, lock into revive, if taking damage, drop blessing and continue revive. would take a room-full of enemies 40 minutes into a T4 survival focusing on you in order to kill you before you revive them.

Also, Zephyr rates as "good" in self/team survivability? She has a 1 button 75 energy pseudo invulnerability mode with a set and forget CC that she can use to pick up anyone. Turbulence with any extra amount of range essentially makes her and anyone near her invulnerable as long as she keeps it up.

I actually don't play my Zephyr anymore because I was getting bored with how easy it was playing a good turbulence build.

Somehow Nyx is "great" at damage increase? All she does is take the bullets you would be using to kill the enemies, and sends it out in a damage type that's inferior to the ones on your weapons 90% of the  time. If anything when I'm playing with a Nyx that absorbs all the time it's actually detrimental to the group. She takes 15 seconds to kill the enemies the group could have killed in 5.

This list is just plain biased towards the bandwagon frames, not the ones that are actually effective.

Hydroid notes taken into account, will adjust OP accordingly.

Trinity has primarily two useful builds right now: Long duration, and minimal duration.

With the long duration build, Trinity is good at keeping herself alive. However, since Blessing can't be recast, that means that if you want to make use of the damage mitigation, you have to cast when an ally's HP or your HP is extremely low, and with the amount of damage that high level enemies can deal, you'll have a hard time getting anywhere higher than 70% damage reduc unless if everyone is running with Quick Thinking on.

With the minimal duration build, you can cast Blessing every 1.2 seconds, but then the damage mitigation buff might as well be nonexistent. And even with heals that fast, you can't out heal the damage levels that enemies can dish out. This thread explains the build.

Energy vampire is nice, but really, who runs out of energy?

For Zephyr, the maximum number of Tornadoes she can whip out is what, 4? In my experience with Zephyr, that's usually not enough to stop a large room of enemies spraying their weapons at you and your allies, only reduces the gun fire, and can't be recast.

Turbulence works much less effectively against hitscan weapons, and you'll quickly go down if you try to rely on it.

Concerning Nyx:

Absorb is able to turn all damage thrown at Nyx and turn it into a large AoE, dealing more damage the stronger and more numerous the enemies are.

Absorb takes one shot of damage that would normally only hit one target, and turns it into an AoE when Absorb is detonated, allowing it to hit many targets. A small instance of damage being increased to a larger net sum of damage = damage amplification/increase.

If a frame is bandwagoned, does that mean it is not effective?

Additionally. concerning Nyx's survivability vs Hydroid's -

While Absorb and Undertow are the same in terms of mitigating damage to the user, Nyx has superior CC with Chaos and Absorb compared to Hydroid with Tentacle Swarm, Tempest Barrage, and Undertow. Better CC means that fewer enemies are shooting at you, and avoiding damage is superior to tanking it.

No, it means they're effective, maybe even the most effective for one particular criteria, but then their value as a whole becomes completely overstated.

Like self-survivability. Nyx isn't great, the bad Nyx's generally start getting downed less than 20 minutes into a survival, the best nyx's might get to 30-40 minutes, but even then they won't last without someone else there providing either energy or damage. Hydroid with his mobility and tankier set gets him out of situations that Nyx would be trapped/downed in allowing him to play more for position to make better use of his CCs, and as long as he doesn't have to stop to pick someone else up he can survive by himself much longer easily. His Tidal surge is essentially a get out of jail free card in the spots Nyx's will die.

Am I saying Nyx is a bad frame? Of course not, but giving her ratings she doesn't deserve just because she's over-all a more useful frame in a team is bias.

I guess I'm just different because I don't run any duration mods on my trinity, it's just as effective but harder to play. You really need to watch both your link timer and the health bars consistently, however you can get benefit from both the heals and the damage reduction consistently if you're good enough, and you're not completely gimping your link.

As for who runs out of energy, everyone eventually. Especially when you have to start casting CCs 3 or more times before you finally clear the room.

May I ask why Volt's not in the top mobility section?

He has Speed to amp up his movement and can be increased with Power Strength.

Because he's not considered a top-tier frame. Nova, who is a top-tier frame, is much more mobile than volt. You see that portal that she spent 75 energy on to warp you 2 meters forward? So much better than letting your entire team consistently copter across entire rooms.

Also, why use Speed to make your entire team move at 1.5 sprint speed when you personally have 1.2 sprint speed? Greed and self-importance counts for more points than teamwork and effectiveness; You should know this.

If you haven't caught the sarcasm yet, let me just put it out there that thread is heavily biased towards bandwagon frames, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

The sarcasm wasn't needed, but I see your point. Fair enough.

Yeah, these "rating" threads just tend to bug me significantly. Almost always heavily biased, and always heavily focused on one small aspect of the game.

Only thing they're actually good for agreeing on which frames need help, which you really don't need a flawed rating system to recognize.

Worm Hole has a range of 50 meters at base and allows vertical travel as well, while coptering is limited to horizontal travel.
