I've been a .... bit of a fan of Orthos Prime for a long time. The high damage, long reach, and easy multi-hitting annihilation made it, IMO, the best melee weapon in the game.

Today there is finally a serious contender.

Bo Prime has even MORE damage. Admittedly it is mostly Impact instead of superior Slash, but on the other hand by being even more one-sided in its damage distribution it benefits significantly from the Heavy Trauma mod.

Bo Prime has slightly better crit performance though neither weapon is really for crits. Where it really excels is having 25%  status chance (versus 15%) which really makes a difference with the selection of dual-stat mods nowadays. Building for corrosion will really help you duel those endgame heavily armored elites, while building for blast and electricity gives it some serious crowd control power.

They are both reasonable pretty weapons, and far far ahead of other high tier melee gadgets like the Jet Kitty or Serro which hurt my eyes to carry.

Where it starts to become less of a straight upgrade is reach.   Bo Prime is short. Oddly short, for a polearm sort of weapon. I thought it was going to be at least comparable to the Orthos since they're both two-handed sticks but it's not even close. The Orthos with a reach mod lets you attack enemies before they can attack you, which is obviously a huge advantage in first-strike capability. It also clears hallways like a boss.  Bo Prime on the other hand doesn't seem to really have any more range than a longsword. It's difficult to even justify using the Reach mod on it.  But, Bo Prime does something that Orthos doesn't do.... it copters. Quite well really.  That's a huge deal for a lot of people.

So... Dethroned or both ruling in different countries?

Dethroned, what it lacks in reach and minus .1 AS it also has half the stamina per swing. Making a continued parry/fight possible.

It also has more polarities.

To be fair, the original Bo was a piece of beautiful crap. Tis better now, but with Bo Prime, the bo type weapons finally are in the limelight.

Till next patch...

For a low mastery weapon Bo was actually really good, it's higher level upgrade was the Amphis which is still considered one of the higher tiered weapons, and now Bo Prime. Seems silly to say the Bo was a piece of crap.

But I'm probably a little biased since it was the first melee I built after the Skana.

i'd have to check the most important part, the hitstun, as much as i love the orthos it died for me when it couldn't hitstun everything it hit, in facgt i find the dual zorens/ichors stanceless better now since i'm literally stunning an enemy endlessly

Things get interrupted CONSTANTLY with Bo Prime.

Dethroned only thing going for orthos vs bo is huge aoe jump attacks

Bo has

coptering

easy to hit combo's

higher damage

more crit

and status

Honestly, I like Orthos' quick melee attack animations a lot better. It allows for sprinting while attacking just like the bo, but it has a HUGE vertical range.

It's not with every melee weapon that you can swat Ospreys right out of the air by simply mashing E.

I have not used the Orthos Prime, but I can say after using it for a while that the Bo Prime is a very good weapon, and worth the trouble.

It copters well, real nice damage, good status chance, oddly short range but its patched up with a maxed Reach mod.

It's fun to run around as Volt using Speed and slide attacking mobs.

It was the first melee weapon I made after the skana knowing full well it was terribad. This was w/o stances and not ragdoll with it's terrbile animations (omg that horrible finisher. and slow sliding attack). The bo was terrible and is only made better with melee 2.0. It's a good weapon now, but again if you have played with it pre 2.0 post ragdoll nerf, it was one of the worst melee weapons in the game.

For a low mastery weapon... the skana beat it. The better of the low mastery weapons definitely didn't include this in the time period I'm talking about.

honestly i think that the jat kittag is still better than both orthos and bo prime, highter damage and highter reach and utility with the jump attack being hilarious but i guess it comes down to personal preference

Jat Kittag and Serro are both good weapons, but to say they're superior to the Bo Prime in every way is not true.

Bo Prime has superior attack speed compared to both of them, consumes less stamina per swing and it's pretty decent at coptering, and I know I'll get lashed at for mentioning coptering, but it's a perk nonetheless.

no one ever mentionated it being superior in every way it's just preference (and the fact that they're more easy to get at least for me), thought i never even noticed weapons consuming stamina in the first place tbh

They are easier to get compared to the Bo Prime, but only because the Handle drop rate is terrible.

And yeah, Jat Kittag and Serro consume 15 stamina per swing, while the Bo Prime takes about 7.5 per swing.

Bo is better damage in general, but it is the Orthos stance that makes it truly amazing, it has huge range, sweeping Attacks, multiple hits per button mash.... you can kill a group much faster with Orthos because of the stance, not the weapon itself.
