How Does The Stalker And His Death Marks Work?

Question

Been farming for this guy for quite some time now, and i have been wondering, how does his ''Death Marks'' work?

I know he gives them when you kill a new boss.

(i actually killed Phorid ages ago)

But now i am wondering, what happends when he comes for you, i know that to loose a mark you have to either kill him, or he has to kill you. But what mark does he remove?

When i loose a mark, do i have to get remarked by the exact boss (the one he Taunts you with) or can i just go on a rampage and kill random bosses?

You can kill any boss to get marked by him, but every boss kill won't grant you a mark. It happens randomly. As far as I know, you can only have one mark at a time, which means to get another stalker after killing him/dying to him, you need to go kill more bosses. He also spawns on missions randomly.

Killing a boss has a chance of giving you a death mark. You can have any amount of these, each one is good for one stalker spawn. In every mission you play while marked, stalker has a 1.5% chance of appearing. If you kill him, or he kills you, or you leave the mission you're in, you lose a mark.

I believe the first boss you encounter on Mercury is the only boss that the Stalker DOES NOT mark you for killing.

Other than that kill any and all other bosses for marks. As for when and how you lose the mark, that one I do not know. I have killed so

many bosses I have no idea how many marks I have left on me. The Stalker attacks me frequently and lately I kill him more often than

he does me so I am curious as to whether you lose the mark if you kill him. If you do then they stack for the same boss.

You can delete the messages if you like. It does not affect the mark. My Inbox is empty and the prick still visits me.

And seriously, it's 'lose'. Not 'loose'.

didn't even catch that one...my error-catching skills must be getting rusty

Yeah i didn't quite read through my post there xD

In all reality I think everyone has just given up on that one and/or spells it like that. It has just been driving me bonkers though, lol.

God I hope not. The english major in me is crying right now.

Do the marks stack? Like if I'm marked 3 times, does that mean he will come for me 3 times before I don't have to worry about being jumped again?

And yes, this is correct. Each mark = one stalker visit

Are the number of marks determined by the number of messages you get from stalker or the number times you kill a boss?

And is the information about his level in the wiki still up to date (enemy level or weapon rank level + 15)?

Since when are either of these two things true?

All information on the wiki is up to date.

Any boss gives you a death mark other than Vor on Mercury, killing him gives you the ability to be marked, or used to anyway.

You can have multiple death marks.

You will not get an in game message from the stalker every time you get a mark.

The boss he names in his taunt might just be random, many reports by players that they have never killed the particular boss he was coming to kill them for.

The stalker's level is based on your weapon or the enemy level +15.

Common Falsities:

other than a minimum frame level of 5 your gear does not matter.  He does not have a higher % chance to show up with low level gear, and never has.

Some people think the minimum rank 5 thing is Mastery Rank.  Its not.

He does not have a higher % chance to show up on X planet or X mission type.  Although a lot of people run captures quickly to try and farm him.  If you finish that too fast you may actually finish before he spawns on a mission the call was made.

Some questions I have not in the wiki info,

Are the hundreds of death marks I gathered from back when frame parts were a random pink orb drop from bosses similar to the stalker drops still counting?

I've had 2 stalker mails but if you only get the mails when you go from 0 marks to 1 then i've lost marks somewhere along the way. Maybe at one of the re-works?

If you kill the stalker or stalker kills you when someone else is the target does that still consume a death mark, or only when you are the one being taunted?

No, the mark is only consumed when he taunts you and you either kill him or he kills you.

Stalker just ran into me on the recent Mercury alert. Since all my weapons were rank 30 he should be level 45 right? Well how is it that my rank 14 Frost was able to survive his attacks and kill him in 2 seconds with my Phage?

There was another thread yesterday but I'm too lazy to look for it.  One of the guy pinpointed a log file that shows your death mark.  So I had a look and it seems I'm marked for Alad V, but then I went visiting Jackal and Stalky sent me a love letter afterwards?

What does having a level 14 frame have to do with the amount of damage a rank 30 phage will do?

You had a weapon that should kill that quickly, so I don't understand your point.

You didn't even explain how my Rank 14 Frost managed to survive a supposedly Rank 45 Stalker for several seconds.

My Phage isn't even that strong. It takes several seconds for it to kill a target on Capture missions, but only 2 seconds to take out Stalker with the exact same mods.

I would assume a level 45 Stalker wouldn't die so easily in 2 seconds.

Several points really.

To start you said you killed him quickly.  I assumed that meant before he could do much.  Most of the time when I (or many others) say they killed the stalker quickly it means before the smoke clears and he hasn't even stood up yet.  A decently modded Phage is a weapon capable of doing this, though a bit tougher to have the beams concentrated, but still not unheard of.  I don't know how you are modded, but a LOT of weapons can take him down quick if you get him early.  His survivability isn't what makes him hard.

Just like everything in warframe the best way to survive is to kill stuff before it has a chance to harm you.  A frame with no defensive ability is just fine through the entire game if you just move and kill fast enough you don't get concentrated fire so there is no reason to assume you had trouble surviving for several seconds even though the post you accuse me of not reading didn't say anything about that. You just said you killed him quickly with a low rank frame.

As far as his level, i've never personally paid attention, but I also don't have any reason not to believe the wiki, and max weapon rank, or enemy level plus 15 is what it says.

Even though just like all warframes, like a duel or a conclave match, you can typically dish out a lot more damage than you can take.  When it comes to survivability against the stalker there is frankly not much difference between an unmodded nova and a max redirection/vitality/steel fiber Rhino.  Yes with that scenario there IS a difference, but not near as much as you might think if he is hitting you.

The stalker is a warframe, and despite all the buffs and nerfs to him, he really is just an AI frame and he has the best abilities of any and because of that a conclave rating over 9000, he still dies just as quickly as any frame to a decent weapon.
