Noblesse_0blige
What exactly are they? For this topic I simply want to chat with other players on what exactly they feel that the Tenno are. My Thoughts of the matter: To be frank, I've wondered how you could add lore elements to switching characters, going from rhino to Sayrn, to Excalibur, and back to rhino. at first I thought maybe I was just playing diffrent people, and that's how the lore was supposed to be. But then I thought, that's one way to put it, but it's too..video gamy for my tastes. So I came up with my own little theory that I use what little lore we are given to say exactly what the Tenno are. So, the Tenno are infected with the Technyocite virus, which mutates and twists the flesh of the things it is being hosted within. Not only that but they are said to be fused with the very power of the void, every cell of their being charged with it, and is why he frames work the way they do. I don't think there are people inside these suits, at least not anymore. I don't believe they have faces, or any real form. I think the combination of Void energy and Nano-robot style virus has Liquified the tenno, into a strange, primordial goop that is then, poured into the frames. Now while I don't believe they have forms, I still think they have personality, and thoughts inside of them- they aren't mindless killing machines like the infested after all. Weather by the nature of the frames, or the power of the void the tenno still have their humanity, despite no longer being human. This theory, and that's all it is until proven otherwise, explains how we be moved from suit to suit, each tailored for completely different body types, and not hand crafted for each individual, as well as our ability to master a weapon in only a little while after picking it up, instead of the months or years it would take normal humans. Also explains stances, as we are literally plugging in that combats style into our databanks, and makes me think mods would ether be simple information regarding a subject, or energy limit removers (Which limits would have to be in place so that the energy of the void didn't go haywire, I'm looking at you Vor.) While there are probably many holes and gaps in this theory it is my own personal conclusion that I like to believe is true, at least until we get any real info on Tenno anatomy, (Thought now that I think of it it explains why we don't have to eat or drink) Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong or how this messes up everything you hold in your own mind about how you view the tenno; just keep it civil and well thought out. I don't want to see dumb one liners that just say 'no ur dumb, thats wong!' (Now that I have made a quote I swear to Lotus somebody is going to post that exact same thing!) (PSN)Count_Dante
I look at the lore of this game sort of like starting say, Game of Thrones in the second season not having watched the first season...
(PSN)IIIDevoidIII
The Tenno crypods, the Tenno you save, are whole, barring a jumpsuit. The Technocyte virus formed differently for the Tenno, a different strand, a more controlled version.

(PSN)JoeyTwoShoes
After sifting through hundreds of different theories, making several different observations from the game's lore and looking at many different discussions about this subject, I have devised a scientifically sound explanation for how the Tenno work:
Vexxie
How we switch characters to me just isn't cannon, it's just there for gameplay reasons, same reason as to why Vor can be killed in 3 different places by 4 different colored Excaliburs. In my mind only 1 Volt, Excalibur, Mag, Etc. exist in lore, Valkyr is a prime example of this unless she was batch made. Not everything needs a lore reasoning to it. ElHefe
@ Nobelese_0blige ... First, thank you for starting this thread ... lore threads challenge the status quo, BUT as the expression goes: "Once more into the breach!!" Second, interesting point of view ... best part of these forums is seeing creative thinking at work Third, sadly, in several other threads SilentMobius has presented very compelling arguments of which one of them is that the Tenno "pilots" are still human/humanoid (check out "Let's Talk Lore" started by Teqnologyque and "Changing Frames Lore-Wise" started by Loxonion) BUT ... a pet theory of mine is that the final Warframe is a tripartite symbiote which consists of a Technocyte (living metal creature), a Tenno (human/humanoid) and a Frame (also a living creature) To which after reading your post I am going to make matters worse ... WHAT IF the VOID is not just an extradimensional space filled with "void energy" as we all assume but rather a sapient, living energy field? Now, the Warframe is a colony of four distinct species ... Far fetched? Sure. No need for it? Maybe not if you like "conventional" thinking ... BUT, it would be so radically weirdly different from the Orokin and their world that the Sentients (which understood the Orokin universe well enough to beat the crap out of them) would also find utterly incomprehensible My point? Gotta make this Warframe thing so damn different that no one gets it Edited July 12, 2014 by ElHefe
(PSN)Gross1985
Well, I still need to sit down and study the whole lore of this game, but I think one thing that's a start is that they are indeed not formless. It took me all this time to realize "Y'know, those hostages you have to rescue in some of those missions....." because they are apparently "Tenno operatives", so I think they might be Tenno. The suits they wear could be a base-layer which would otherwise coincide with the operation of a Warframe. Though, the hostages always seem to have female voices, despite their masculine appearance. Noblesse_0blige
@ElHefe Why thank you, yours is a very interesting take on the tenno as well, and came completely out of the box that it came out of the sphere. Thank you for enjoying mine and offering up a reasonable, well typed, and thought out response theory, was very nice to read~ Edited July 12, 2014 by Noblesse_0blige
[DE]Momaw
Until we hear from DE, this is my head-canon. A warframe does not contain consciousness. By sending people into the void, some of them would transcend to a new mode of existence. Which makes the warframe an avatar of a mind that exists outside of space.Their consciousness remains behind in the void while the body comes back and can be augmented into the physical warframe under the guidance of the mind. Hayden Tenno somehow found a way to do it on his own using whatever technology was in the cache plus his altered state of mind and body. His body was destroyed in the conflicts he sought, but he persisted in the void for centuries until the Orokin started their panicked exodus into void space. He was able to contact some of the Orokin aboard their ships and guide them into ascending as he had. In respect, they adopted his philosophy and ideals and called themselves the Tenno. The Orokin commanders were not aware of Hayden's help or the true nature of the people that came back, all they knew is that they had found a way to make "super men" that could level the battlefield against their enemies. So they sent more and more people into the void with no protections at all, sacrificing entire ships and city populations to see who would survive. In the void, the Tenno grew numerous and bitter. They managed to befriend one of the powerful Neural Sentries that ran the fundamental structure of Orokin society since, like them, it was a consciousness that was radically altered to suit somebody else's needs. We know this sentry as Lotus. The Tenno won the Orokin-Sentient war as ordered and then with the help of Lotus turned against their hated creators. vaugahn
It's been confirmed (I'll search for links/sources) that there is something humanoid inside the frames. How humanoid they are we do not know, but we know the warframes are suits. We know they have an affliction, one severe or dangerous or disfiguring enough that it caused them to be "rejected" somehow. We know they caught this affliction in the void, and that it is most likely technocyte. That's pretty much all we know.

DSpite
It's called Dark Sector. Made by DE before Warframe, and they used the ideas from that game. The technocyte virus infected our protagonist "Hayden Tenno", and the virus does this to people: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-DVAW8795Bg4/UodzhnUYe8I/AAAAAAAAE0Y/69ylgqrlnEE/w1390-h1043-no/dark-sector.jpg Fast forward this to 00:40 and watch him become the first Excalibur frame. Muirenn
It's called Dark Sector. Made by DE before Warframe, and they used the ideas from that game. In actuality, the Dark Sector that was released is a butchered version of the Dark Sector they originally intended to make. Publisher involvement forced them to alter most of their original vision and ideas. Warframe isn't using ideas from that game, it's using the original ideas from the game that didn't get the chance to exist.
