I Need A Primary Assault Rifle, Ideas Appreciated.

I need an Assault Rifle that I can count on to kill anything and everything. I prefer aesthetics over game play, it could be the best gun in the game, if it looks stupid I'm not using it. Which is why I'm limited to the Boltor, Karak (Though rather ugly in some parts), and the Soma. So which out of those 3 is the best in terms are able to killing anything when properly modded? I know the Boltor is really good, and the Soma can be good if you can get the Crit. chance high enough. I don't really know if the Karak is good at anything though.

If you're very desperate for a kill everything gun, the Boltor Prime is probably better than the Soma. However Soma has the advantage of being a gun with bullets that hit immediately. Whereas the Boltor Prime shoots projectile bolts. If you're confident in your aiming go for the Boltor Prime. If you want a more careless beast then go for the Soma. With Soma you want crit chance and crit damage, regular damage, and your corresponding elements. With Boltor Prime you just want straight up damage and elements as much as you can.

Soma is great and kills everything, and Grakata us pretty much the same thing. Hind is good too, but ugly as hell. I find the Dera a good RIFLE and i like how it shoots lasers. And, god, i love the Sybaris. Not exactly a assaukt rifle, but it's great. Anyway, i think the best choice is Boltie Prime. Cool and incredibly powerful.

Soma: SIGNIFICANTLY less damage out-of-the-box, but the only standard rifle that crits like a beast: the damage output goes waaay up with the right mods.  Moderately high puncture, moderately high slash.  Versatile against grineer, slightly better on infested.

 

Braton Prime: Pretty much what you'd expect.  A beefier Braton that can hold it's own in late(ish) game.  High slash damage, so it's good against infested.

 

Honorable mention: Grakata.  It's for status-effect builds.  Not much else to say about it.

 

As you can tell, there's sort of a running theme of mostly slash damage with some puncture damage.  One assault rifle's not gonna work equally well on anything (save maybe the non-prime braton/burston, which have even damage types).

For now, because the Boltor can be Primed and I have a Rhino Prime, lets go with that. Mod scheme?

Braton prime is a very solid gun. It doesnt have as much damage as boltor prime, but its still pretty good. Overall it has pretty good status chance, critical, damage, its hitscan and has very good accuracy and low recoil

if you're using a Crit Weapon, you should always be shooting in the head, Crits get multiplied on the head in absurd amounts.

 

elsewise, Weapons that aren't Crits, all you're missing out shooting center mass is a 2x bonus. 

 

 

 

and if you don't know what Soma is, it's a Spray Cannon. you aim at neck level, hold the trigger, and swipe back and forth, and the entire room is probably dead.

 

 

but as this is Warframe, an Automatic Rifle has two general purpose basics.

- Split Chamber and Serration always, Heavy Caliber if the Accuracy is very high to start with, or if you don't mind close range fighting.

- Shred, Metal Auger, and other Utility Mods are niche, but if you want to use them, go ahead.

- Corrosive is the general purpose for Infested, Radiation the general purpose for Grineer, and Magnetic the general purpose for Corpus.

two Combo's isn't always the best depending on preferences, and after those standard general purpose Damage Types, you may or may not prefer the other Combo that you get with the other two Elementals, and may prefer more of the general purpose or double of one of the Elementals, Et Cetera.

though, if you want to ignore that and use whatever Damage Types you want, by all means.

- if it's a Weapon with high Crit stats, use Crit Mods. if it isn't, then don't bother.

- Physical Mods are inferior to Elementals. (Mods that increase Impact, Puncture, and Slash Damage are inferior to Elementals). only exception is if your Weapon is 95%+ in the Physical Type you're boosting, then you're not sacrificing that much Damage and could prefer the Physical Mod if you really like.

Specifically, the Soma gets an average of ~3.5x damage from headshots, while the Boltor Prime only gets 2.1x.

 

Personally I would go for the Soma for now and work on getting the Boltor Prime (they're both solid weapons to keep) - but you should probably practice taking headshots, at least for heavies. You won't *need* them for a long time, but it's really nice to have practice when you do take the weapon into high level content and you need that extra 3.5x damage.

 

Because I aim for headshots, I don't use Heavy Caliber - you might want to if you aren't going to bother, but its a tough mod to level up, I'd ignore it for now. Split Chamber, Serration, Both Crit Mods, Shred, and 3x elementals (or 2x and bane or Hammer Shot) to preference. Shred is particularly useful because it provides punch through and also helps you get past the spinup phase faster.

 

Alternately, you can use the Soma as a marksman rifle, with single shots or double taps to the head - with this setup, use Critical Delay instead of Shred, as RoF won't matter and the increased crit brings the average headshot modifier to 3.79x.

Soma is easier to acquire, easier to aim, and deals more damage with headshots due to crit but Boltor prime deals more damage overall and pushes away dead corpses which means better vision of what isn't dead.

One of the sexiest guns in the game ... but back to topic, This gun up top, is a very good pick. Requires minimal mastery Rank and scales up well if you have the mods and 4 formas to stick in it. If you have your Rank 6 Mastery, Get soma, looks like your standard assault Riffle, but packs on of the meanest punch in the game, Crit build required. Boltor Prime is also a very nice pick and a very popular one. Bolt action weapon are awkward at long range, but once you get use to em, you close in the gap instead of trying to spray and pray from a far. If you are used to assault riffles, id stay away from burst weapon like the hind, burston, burston prime and sybaris. Even though they are great weapons and a worth leveling and mastering, they require a more pin point accuracy and a knowledge of the ennemy weak point to fully appreciate em
