SmokinDevil
I wasn't sure where to put this, here or Off-Topic but my question pertains to U14. I've seen some people say looking at the new UI makes people nauseous but exactly "how" does that happen? What about the UI makes you feel that way? I really like the new UI and ship. I like walking around and going to parts of the ship to equip and look at stuff. I like the way the planets look and the missions. It took me 5 minutes to adapt. On the other hand, why isn't something like this bothering me? Is it settings or my monitor? Is it really as simple as my eye muscles have been trained for it? LegacyOfLamb
Yeah I find it odd as well, the new UI is fine, and I love it, no headaches or anything, only thing that bugs me is the size of the ship, but that's about it.
cloudyDev
It bugs me how I have my character covering up the left part of ANY of the ships UI When my mouse is on the right side of the screen. vaugahn
Yeah I've been wondering about this. The tilting menus kind of annoyed me at first. but after about 10 minutes I wasn't having any problem getting them in the right position.
StrahlTiger
It's the constant motion and tight FOV within the ship. Normally I never have a problem at all in video games or movies, but this new UI really triggers it. The effect is called Simulator Sickness and it's been documented since the 90's. There's already a topic on it here: https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/264743-new-ui-makes-me-nauseous/ and a well put together "Extra Credits" video here:
ideatomik
I get motion sickness with low fov and shaking cameras (could never play more than 5min of the last Tomb Raider), as well as speed difference and interruption of movement. I haven't got any issues with U14 UI, but I think I can see why some folks are getting nauseous. The ship is a very crammed space so the smaller fov can mess up with one's sense of space. Warframe is a fast movement game with ample spaces, so when your brain gets used with a character running around with plenty of room to rotate the camera, suddenly walking around the tiny ship at a fraction of the usual speed - when your brain is expecting to run freely and visualize the scene from further away - messes up with inner balance. The floating menus of the UI can make it worse; one is sitting in front of a static screen, and yet there's a lot of information to read that keeps changing position. Perhaps an option to lock the menus' position and/or increase their fov so everything fits on the screen could fix that.
SmokinDevil
I don't know how I missed that other thread but I found this. Funny enough, I've been doing the exact opposite of everything and I still don't have any sickness. The only explanation that makes sense from the video is "I've been doing this since I was young". Just as the video states Simulation Sickness and it's causes are still relatively unknown outside of the fact that they exist. The most recent and promising finds on it came out last month: http://www.nature.com/news/wiring-of-retina-reveals-how-eyes-sense-motion-1.15147 My wife experiences moderate Simulation Sickness with TPS's but oddly enough not any with FPS's, so it's a subject I try to keep up with.
