Volatile Runners And Sentinels

So, I noticed when Volatile Runners explode (killed or by 'choice') my sentinel will take damage even though I'm out of their damage radius.  It's like the explosive radius for applying damage to sentinels is 2-3 times larger.

 

Is this a glitch or by design?

 

Or are they just generally Allergic to infested guts, cuz technocyte virus...
