Allies Of The Tenno (Putting This On Hold For Now) [Update 10/17]

Added in a potential revamping of Cantis as a character for the Ghosts, working on a back story:

Cantis (Tentative)

Due to the fact Cantis is already an existing character whether or not this will ultimately be applied to her or an entirely new character will depend on how she is developed in game, it would also likely be a bit of a retcon of the character she currently is (however little developed it is) if it were to be applied

The Grineer took everything from me, from everyone here, it is only fair we return the favor”

- Cantis of the Red Veil

Born a Grineer slave, Cantis' life is a tale of tragedy that has turned her into the embodiment of hate and anger towards the Grineer; she would be the leader of the Ghosts and the one you would receive Ghost related quests and missions and likely be the one giving you mission updates and directives while you run them. If she is seen in game during a mission her weapon of choice would likely be either dual Wraith Vipers or a Gorgon Wraith.

Though likely youngest character to appear in game she would be one of the most intense and severe personalities you would encounter. Her entire life has been spent plotting revenge against the Grineer and she has no time or use for any sort of pleasantries or leisure outside of that, it has been a long time since she ever truly smiled. The way I describe her demeanor is like 'cold fire', while on the surface she mains a composed and seemingly emotionless guise, underneath burns a hatred and loathing towards the Grineer that is frightening when it does manage to boil out of her.

Possible personality trait: Slightly unhinged

You Tenno, so safe in your secret hideouts and little ships, you have no idea what it's like to live out here in real world, to spend your childhood as a dog slave, to watch as friends and family die everyday from bullets and starvation, the Grineer have sent me to hell, AND I WILL PULL THEM DOWN HERE AND MAKE THEM BURN WITH ME”

- Conversation with Cantis

Cantis for the most part would be cold and quite taciturn about most things, and while Cantis should never be considered some sort of psychopath, it would be a quite a character twist if the inner fire that drives would on rare occasions boil to the surface and show her true colors, maybe when she gets really riled up in her rhetoric against the Grineer, or during battle. Compared to the Vandals who for the most part would hold the morale high ground the Ghosts are meant to be more a moral gray zone, where at times you might question whether it is okay to combat the hatred of the Grineer by fighting with a group that seems just as equally hateful towards them.

I know what you're thinking, punk. You're thinking "did he fire sixty shots or only fiftynine?" Now to tell you the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this is a Cestra, the most powerful handgun in the world and will blow you head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself a question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Well, it doesn't quite work, but corpus sidearms are kinda meh in regards of handcannons. Also, doggamn wysiwyg post editor.

Ren Huud, (pronounced just as you would the word ‘Hood’) the counterpart to Cantis in the Red Veil Ghosts division, as you requested. Since we have Caz on Callisto, I thought I’d rework this story a bit and try to see what I could tune up. Honestly I don’t know about the name, the creative juices weren’t flowing well, haha, if you can think of something a bit more creative and Grineer-esque, I’d be open to it. And of course, you’re free to change whatever you wish in the story, add or subtract.

As one of the Grineer Berserker units who were sent into the field to “suppress” enemy forces, Ren was a decorated commander in the Grineer military. One of the first Berserkers created by Tyl Regor, his ability to calculate his attacks and command his troops earned his name to be whispered among figures like Admiral Vor and Lieutenant Lech Krill. To test his skill and hone his prowess, he and his squad were sent on mission after mission, eliminating Corpus installations, suppressing Red Veil activity, and killing the Tenno before they awoke. In his youth he believed that the Queens were right, that they needed to reign in the system, or else the Corpus would own everything and rule it all for profit. Ren believed that the Grineer rule would liberate the system, and that the peoples in the colonies and civilian outposts needed their aid in freeing them from Corpus influence, Red Veil anarchy, and the Tenno betrayers. For his efforts, Ren quickly rose through Grineer ranks and became a decorated Officer in the Grineer Military.

When the Tenno began to awake, more and more Grineer were sent to try and eliminate them before the Lotus could create a sizeable force. Ren’s first encounter with an awoken Tenno squad was something he would never forget. After finding the location of an Orokin Derelict, Captain Vor ordered Ren in to quickly destroy the Tenno Cryopods before the Lotus was able to recover them. When Grineer forces breached the ship and found the pods, they were empty. Before anyone could take another breath, the Tenno sprung from the shadows and began unloading on the Grineer Battalion. A blinding light incapacitated the Grineer troops, and the Excalibur responsible began slicing apart the dazed Grineer. Ren was able to recover and dodge an Ember Fireball; some of his men victim to an Avalanche. In the confusion, Ren was able to duel the Excalibur with his claws, while his men focused on the Tenno taking position within a Frost Snowglobe. The Trinity among them ensured that no matter the blow that landed, her squad was healed of the injuries and continued to press the Grineer. Ren and his opponent dueled endlessly, and he knew the troops he had at hand wouldn’t be enough.

The duel with the Excalibur continued on while the men around him began to fall quickly. After signaling his men to focus on the Excalibur, Ren radioed all available Grineer from his ship to engage the Tenno. Grineer troops flooded the Derelict, and soon the entire ship was alight with a firefight. Ren had never seen a foe fight with such ferocity and precision against the Grineer armies before. Outnumbered and outgunned, the Tenno still matched the Grineer in lethality and continued to press the Grineer forces surrounding them. Grineer bodies began to litter the ship, but Ren realized that if the Tenno were allowed to escape, they would pose a great threat to the Queens.

For the first time, he realized why the Tenno were fabled warriors, and why they were to never be awoken. After what seemed to be hours of fighting, the Tenno began to fall one by one, until the only one left was the Excalibur that he had dueled. The exhaustion could be seen on the Excalibur’s composure, yet he stood resolute against the Grineer around him. Ren came to respect his adversary, and rather than let his troops gun the Tenno down, ordered his men to let him finish his duel. Their duel was a dance of blade and claw, back and forth between both adversaries. Their clash continued for some time, with the Grineer forces cheering Ren on, yet throughout all of this the Excalibur kept his calm and continued to fight on, no matter the bullet wounds and explosive flack that littered his body. The Excalibur came very close to defeating Ren, with his Skana blade nearly slicing Ren’s head off. Only by quick reflexes did Ren evade his decapitation, but his helm would bear the scar across the faceplate.

Ren was fighting for his life, and he knew it. Never before, not in his training or countless missions across the Origin System did he face a foe that truly challenged him in every regard as a warrior. Enemies before this were mere fodder to the true skill the Tenno fought with, they possessed the prowess and elegance of times past, and held the morals that warriors today lacked. The Corpus with their automatons and the Grineer with their countless clones, their sheer power and might was unfathomable. And yet, here, in the face of a foe that did not care for either side, Ren realized that the strength of the Tenno came from their discipline, their continuity, their bond as a family in arms against foes that would seek to destroy that family. It was evident on the way the Excalibur he fought now stood and battled, even when any other soldier would have fallen. Bullet wounds and shrapnel riddled his WarFrame, and yet he stood toe to toe with the best assassins of the Grineer Empire.

Ultimately, the wounds on the Excalibur took their toll, and Ren was able to overcome the Tenno warrior. Looking up from his defeated enemy, Ren realized the costs this one engagement with the Tenno took on his men. Grineer bodies lay riddled throughout the ship, most of his men either dead or injured, and the few that weren’t were exhausted and ready to collapse. All this, from four Tenno. Yet, Ren could not help but respect his foe, and in honor of their prowess in battle, laid the bodies of the Tenno side by side in their pods, despite new orders to return the bodies to Grineer facilities for military research. He would never forget that battle with the Tenno; he left the scar across his faceplate as a reminder of the soldiers who had fallen, and the enemy that he respected.

One day, they were sent to a remote position to quell the enemy forces there. It turned out that the enemy forces were actually civilians who refused to submit to the rule of the Queens. The Lotus had sent in Tenno squads to help protect the civilians as they were evacuating, and the Berserkers were sent in to eliminate the Tenno squads. En mass the Grineer forces flooded the area, shooting at anything that wasn’t Grineer. After fighting the Corpus, Red Veil, and even Tenno squads out in the field, Ren though this operation would be a simple invasion and the civilians would be freed from the Tenno usurpers. The Tenno would prove otherwise, and the squads the Lotus had sent were sustaining a defensive line, stopping the Grineer from liberation the Civilians.

When Ren reached the frontlines, he noticed that the Tenno were being assisted by Red Veil and civilian forces, sustaining shield generators while the Tenno and the Red Veil kept the Grineer away from civilian engineers. Perplexed, he himself engaged Tenno and Red Veil forces to try and gain a foothold in the Tenno defense. Red Veil defenses were surpassed with great resistance, but the Tenno kept the Grineer from freeing Civilians that were heading to transports. Ren thought these transports were where the Lotus took Tenno prisoners. In the fighting he noticed a Civilian convoy moving to their Transport, and moved his troops to intercept. Ordering his men to overtake the convoy, Ren was able to reach the Civilians before Tenno squads could converge on the convoy. When he ordered the Civilians to head to the Grineer camps for protection, the civilians refused, stating that they needed protection from the Grineer.

Ren didn’t get a chance to dissuade the Civilians, as Tenno cells arrived to overtake the Grineer positions. When the fighting broke out around the convoy, Civilians were fleeing towards the Tenno transports. Despite his best efforts to get them away from the Tenno, civilians continued to run, the Tenno providing the distraction by fighting the Grineer. Rens’ troops were forced to pull back as the cell proved too much. Ultimately, the Grineer forces converging on the Transport area were able to push the Tenno cell to the docks. By this point Ren was able to hear the Red Veil leader known as Cantis giving orders through a signal hacker awarded to him by Vem Tabook, a member of the Grustrag Three.

“Tenno, all other Cells have extracted, yours is the only one left. Grineer forces are converging on your position, you may choose to head to extraction, but the last transports will be vulnerable, the choice is yours.”

                   -Cantis

Yet the Tenno stayed their positions, protecting the last transports still loading Civilians. In his heart Ren knew that the Tenno would not leave, he had fought them enough times to see their “Tenno Honor” in action.

“Tenno, the Grineer will eliminate the Civilians and you, they will not spare the children or the innocent, you must not let them destroy the transports.”

                    -Cantis

At this, Ren was offended, the Grineer were the liberators of the people, not these Tenno usurpers. The Queens assured him that the civilians would be liberated and the Red Veil collaborators found and eliminated. He ordered his troops forward, ready to prove to Cantis just how wrong she was, and to make the Tenno realize that the Grineer would not allow them to brainwash the civilians.

After the battle was won and the Tenno defeated, the civilian transports were held in their positions, and Ren awaited orders from Tyl Regor. Expecting the people on the transports to be spared, Commander Huud was not prepared when Regor ordered that the civilians be eliminated, stating that they were defectors to the Tenno cause, and all were Red Veil associates. Ren saw women and children enter the transports, and knew for a fact the children were innocent of any actions taken by any Red Veil members. Ren ordered his men to stand down, but Regor would not allow it. He ordered Rens’ troops to destroy the transports; women, children, elderly, the sick, all were to be eliminated, “For the glory of the Queens” was Regors order.

Grineer guns were raised, even against Rens’ orders, and he saw his men slaughter everyone on the ships. Screams were heard throughout the massacre, his calls for a cease fire went unnoticed, and in that moment he realized that his men were clones of loyal soldiers, replaced and replaceable. They followed orders because they were brainwashed into doing so. Led by Captain Vor, created by Tyl Regor, fighting alongside Sargus Ruk, all this he could feel and remember because he was a Berserker, a genetic imprint made by Regor to be unique, complex, mentally more adept and physically superior to their more generic counterparts. But this was all he was to the Grineer, a replaceable clone brainwashed into believing that the Queens were absolute. In that moment he realized that Cantis was right, the Grineer wouldn’t spare anyone who stood against them, or anyone suspected of doing so.

After the massacre, Ren knew his insubordination would not go unnoticed. He vowed to open the eyes of his brothers and sisters to the crimes of their superiors and the Queens. He disappeared before anyone could notice, and sought out an enemy he once thought misguided. He sought out those who were freed of the Queens’ thrall, those who were able to escape and fight back against the Grineer, those who called themselves the Red Veil, and their leader Cantis.

I’m sorry the female character for the Vandals isn’t up yet, I’m still trying to fine tune the story, I’ll do my best to get that done ASAP.

Nothing needs to be done ASAP, take your time.

As for your character the only thing I'm thinking about changing is that bit about been a Beserker to something more like an assassin or commander, for one thing Berserker suggests a whole new type of Grineer unit that doesn't exist (it's also a name more associated with madness or insanity), besides that it's looking good, I'll put up my final thoughts on him later (if you don't like the name yourself maybe you can think of a another one in the meantime).

I forget what the new units for the Grineer are called, the one that won the Enemies of the Tenno concept, but that's what I was trying to model it after. Of course, change as you will! The biggest thing for this thread is that all our ideas flow together, and we have good synergy with them all, if changes to my work needs to be done, we can do it! I'm just enjoying the writing and stuff.

I'll try to think of something for his name, if not. you're free to change it or keep it.

Well I'm starting to hit the point where I have so much artwork for this concept I'm starting having trouble including it all due to the limited number of images I'm allowed in each post, I'm going to have to rethink how I organize this I guess.

Imgur galleries?

Added ValhaHazred's concepts to the OP.

Had to break up the OP again, something I'm loathe to do, but I couldn't see a way around it except turning some of the images into links instead, something I'd rather do as a last resort.

Ok I will take care not post any new inages in here then.

And awesome new art!

This project is slowly turning into a campaign or as they used to call it a DLC.

Come on devs! This is awesome stuff.

I never meant I can't take in any more artwork, by all means keep submitting anything you can for this.

I don't see this as a massive add on, more of something that the devs will hopefully adopt and gradually add in, it could start as easily as having Zhon instead of Cantis deliver the next Red Veil message, I'm not expecting them to implement everything seen here at once in one giant update.
