Allies Of The Tenno (Putting This On Hold For Now) [Update 10/17]

Recommended Posts

Great to see more things being thought of and expanded.

This really is a great foundation, not only factions and npcs, but settings for the large system context.

With hubs, DE can let the world bloom - if they choose to do so.

1) OMG TEXT

2) OMG MORE TEXT

3) OMG MOOOOOORE TEXT

4) MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE

5) Srrsly Bro that was really good. Didn't read the whole thing, but I was most interrested in the gametypes idea. It got me thinking- what if there were faction-specific gametypes? just an idea.

The large amount of text was kind of inevitable with the amount of thought and work that has been put into this, believe me I would turn this into some big graphic novel to explain everything if I could as that would probably appeal more to the readers here, I'm doing my best though to get artists on board though to help keep people interested as they try and plow through the mountain of text.

As for faction specific missions, I see that sort of falling under Quest scenarios, though I could imagine scenarios like the Vandals waging a propaganda campaign against the Corpus, or the Ghosts wanting support for a siege like assault against a formidable Grineer stronghold.

Added in game mechanic

Random/Triggered Appearances

Similar to invasion mission or Stalker 'death marks', doing a number of missions on behalf of a friendly faction could result in a player getting a 'assistance mark' that gives a chance of the assisted friendly faction making an appearance on behalf of the player.

Whether this means having friendly units start spawning and shifting the mission into a more invasion like scenario, the appearance of limited number of non-respawning friendlies, or the appearance of a single particularly powerful friendly NPC (or a combination of the mentioned) is something I will leave undecided here.

Similarly to death marks, 'assistance marked' players could group together to increase the likely hood of an appearance which could possibly be beneficial in missions like survival or defense where the extra help would make the most impact.

Also like 'death marks', the appearance of a friendly faction could give the chance for the player to earn a special BP or part that is relevant to the assisting faction, unlike 'death marks' however players would simply have to complete the mission and they would automatically be granted the BP/part (versus 'death marks' where you are required to defeat the hunter that appears).

Updated and added to the OP with a little information entry:

Lyza Tal, the right hand of Zhon (leader of the Vandals), once a girl of privilege and Corpus high society, Lyza's former life was destroyed by political intrigue and back stabbing and she has since become a full time rebel against the system and the representative of the "youth in rebellion" element of the Vandals. While been a capable fighter, Lyza is also a talented hacker and has deep insight into the inner workings of Corpus politics due to her background, she also has a knack for promoting and publicizing the Vandal cause. Missions involving her would be more oriented towards propaganda and publicly exposing the Corpus for their crimes.

------------------

I'll work on fixing up her back story as soon as I can. I actually got an idea for a quest in mind to write out involving her called the Trial of Zhon where Zhon gets captured and you work in conjunction with Lyza to turn what is suppose to be a mock show trial for Zhon into a major embarrassment for the Corpus and a major coup for the Vandals.

I've been following this thread and I very, very love this concept. May I suggest you something like what voice actor should voiced the characters. Since there's a lots of characters in the concept and I don't think Skree or Rebecca (or maybe Megan too) is enough for voicing those characters. Let me know what do you think.

I am open to any suggestions or contributions, if you have people in mind I'll hear you out.

Alright and thanks for the letting me to put a suggestion!

Alright here's some voice actors for the characters that I got in mind:

1. First of all is my favorite, Zhon. By the look from the recent fanart, I can suggest him being voiced by Troy Baker (I know he's everywhere, please don't throw things on me! D: ). I imagine Zhon sounded like Joel from The Last of Us or Booker DeWitt from Bioshock Infinite when reading the quotes on his back story.

2. For Lyza Tal, the only thing that came up on my mind is Colleen Clinkenbeard. A badass, deadly woman like that can have a voice of Lilith from Borderlands.

3. Boris Kievsky can voiced some of the rebels. And also I want him to voiced Viter, a vandal with very radical thinking which is also happen to be Zhon's close friend (Oh yeah, I also count this as suggestion for another Vandal character if you don't mind to put another one).

4. For some Phobos Tribesman or maybe the Tribe's chief, Fred Tatasciore and Kari Wahlgren may voiced some of them.

5. Chaz Thrace, the Callistean Guard's commander will be voiced by Eric Vale. Why? because I love Eric Vale and I imagining that Chaz talk with General American accent.

6. Chancellor of the Free Colony of Callisto and Chaz's brother Elysia Rose will be voiced by Alexis Tipton. That's what I came up in mind.

For Cantis, I think DE_Rebecca or DE_Megan will good enough.

Of course these list are not final and all of you (especially HappyApathy) who maybe read this post can also suggest more or tell me to change something on the list.

And of course, here's Viter's description (I suck at making back story, though. Hope anyone can make his back story based on my description)

"Those arrogant milk-drinking board or the decaying mindless Grineer dogs. I don't know which is worse."

-Conversation with Viter

Appearance: Bald, goatees, has two horizontal red strip tattoo on his forehead and wears a weary maroon-ish corpus crewman suit. He's armed with Dera.

Viter is a former Corpus crewman who is a part of the Zhon's Divison and known to be one of the Zhon's close friend. His hatred toward the board grew after he was losing both of his parents and sister because the Board deliberately let the Grineer's invade his home colony on Ishtar, Venus and refuse to acknowledge that it was their fault. He later defects and join the Vandals after knowing his friend Zhon are leading the rebellion.  Viter is a guy with a huge hatred toward his own former master but he's also hates the Grineer more since he finds that they do something rather unpleasant and disturbing to his family. He believe that Corpus should be completely annihilated and should replaced by a system that similar to the ancient system called "Socialism". Because of his thinking, He and Zhon sometimes caught in a petty argument.

EDIT: Adding Viter's brief description. Fixing some typos.

Added to the OP with an information entry:

Vandal/Rebel Serro Crewman: Essentially a bigger badder Prodman, Serro wielders would be dressed up similar to Crewman with a slightly different color scheme, they might even wear makeshift 'non-regulation' body armor to allow them get up close to hack apart enemies.

wait what about my suggestion?

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier about that.

1. Sounds good

2. Also sounds good

3 - 5. These people have done so much voice work it's hard to pinpoint an example of what your thinking of, maybe you could find a specific example to narrow it down

6. Haven't had time to look up Tipton's voice acting

7 (Cantis). To be honest if DE could get someone like Colleen Clinkenbeard to do voice acting they might as well get her to do Cantis as well, considering the significance of her character it might actually be better to have a professional do it. Also there's a bit of a twist in her suggested rework that might mean the choice of voice might need a change. I'll explain more when the artist doing the piece for her is done.

As for Viter I might consider him as a minor character of sorts, unlike a fan-fiction or a role play I'm trying to keep the number of significant characters manageable for this concept. Each character I've suggested is meant to have a niche/role within the story of Warframe and provide a certain perspective into the enemy factions they face.

Here's a sub-faction of either the Ghosts or the Vandals, just as a slight sub-faction because someone's gotta cover the back end of the rebel movement, right?

The Tinkerers

On both sides of the war, the people suffered through slavery by either the whip or the love of Profit. As such, most of the rebels have either messed around with technology from one or both sides of the neverending war. The few who have dedicated themselves to the makings of weaponized materials are known as the Tinkerers.

Nerds or engineering geniuses, each Tinkerer seems to have some form of bionics, be they Corpus conveniences or forced Grineer grafts, Tinkerers use their gifts or curses to fight the regimes that rule over them. Wielding modified weapons like the cut-down Kindle or the souped up Rima face-erasing shotgun, the Tinkerers are responsible for half of the rebel forces' weaponry, either reverse engineering the ID locks on Corpus rifles or scaling the Grineer guns to human sizes, the Tinkerers would weaponize anything they get their hands on.

Units

-Corpus Cutter

With a wrist-welded prosthetic after a 'discipline' course from his/her supervisor, the Corpus Cutter wields a Spectra as a handy (pun not intended) tool for the rebellion. These modified Spectras can also be seen serving as repairing tools within hideouts and even on the field when a modified MOA needs to be welded back into operation or a metal door sealed shut to prevent escape. As a bit of a plus, they did modify their gauntlets to be more suited for battle, able to hit harder in close range than any Corpus Crewman can ever hope to achieve with a Dera.

<AI terms: More of Seekers mixed with the rescue targets we have, cover would be used frequently and they barely get into fights unless it's direct close range and stuff.>

-Corpus Hacker

Normally, a well off civilian with the credits to get a cybernetic eye implanted or some form of fancy visor, the Corpus Hacker tends towards the software of most Corpus machines. Wielding a Plaga multi-tool/dagger, these guys make use of the Tenno's heavy killing power to get them closer towards the fight and let them hack into the systems, either turning off cameras or hacking enemy robots into the Rebel cause.

<Could be a rescue target or an escort to gather more resources for some missions. AI's gonna be a problem then but...>

-Corpus Gunsmith

Not exactly the most geeky type of Tinkerer, the Gunsmiths tend to have modifications to lower the burden of repeatedly hammering guns, physically or electronically, into shape for the rebel cause. They carry improvised paint-can grenades to use when in a pinch and double as Vandals when on the field. Thier Rima shotguns make short work of most Corpus military shields and rend the flesh underneath, making them close ranged units that are pretty much feared amongst the loyalists.

<Similar AI to Troopers, I suppose, but goes right for our shield generating Supra guys for maximum cover in a squad. Can arm standard Vandals weapons>

-Corpus Slicer

A retired Corpus Miner, these guys possess injuries sustained from using the newly manufactured Quantas which have cost them some limbs upon accidentally triggering the shock explosives. These guys use their Quantas as support weapons alongside Shield Bearers but are rare considering that a)Looted Quantas aren't exactly great for cutting down heavier Corpus shielding and b) The Quanta is not the most wieldy thing to lug about.

They have more shielding than most other units but have little health, making them more dependent on their Supra wielding counterparts.

-Grineer Cutter

A shadow of a former man, these Cutters have been repeatedly modified and broken to prevent escape and to instill loyalty. Thier bionic eyes and limbs make them look more machine than man but the strongest of these Cutters have stood the test of time against their Grineer slavers and broken free upon the Tenno's frequent exterminations. Rescued by the Ghosts, these Cutters know their way around several tools of the Grineer arsenal and are glad to put them to use. Sheevs make frequent appearances in their hands when fighting their former Grineer masters.

Luckily for them, their augmented limbs don't register pain and most of their bodies tend to be made out of Ferrite than flesh, making them excellent close range brawlers when needed. For a while, at least. As an additional bonus, the Cutters have a similar ability to the Feral Kubrows on Earth, having a charge attack but styled after the 'prison yard rush', viciously stabbing Grineer Lancers to death.

<Would be essentially the Ghost version of the Butcher. Semi-suicidal but fitting.>

-Grineer Nailer

The Gremlin nail gun wasn't exactly the smartest thing that the Grineer placed in the hands of their slaves. After a rebel outburst happened when a Lancer got shot in the face by a slave wielding one of these, several Tinkerers have relied on the nailgun's effectiveness as a pistol and the ones most proficient tend to be the slaves who ended up having to go on long, difficult climbs to set up Grineer bases or fittings, be it lab equipment indoors or a darned base up in the Orokin trees on Earth, they would have to climb and nail things together.

Now, armed with their trusted weapons, these Tinkerers with metal hands can either strike from perches or on the ground. Either way, they would take several Grineer out before dying in a blaze of glory.

<Like the Grineer Cutter, these guys are semi-suicidal and can just bomb-rush the enemy>

-Grineer Firestarter

Wielding Kindle flamethrower-pistols, the Firestarters are essentially welders who lost several modifications to limit their speed, since the Grineer had learnt from the few uprisings with the Gremlins, and these new batches of rebels have leg handicaps to prevent running.

Nevertheless, the Ghosts had decided to make these units their tankier counterparts, with what salvage they could find, a Firestarter would tend to take slightly more than the average Tenno before going down, sacrificing themselves for their cause less often than not due to their heavier and bulkier armours.

<Think a more defensive Scorch in terms of AI, not like the rest of the Grineer Tinkerers>

-Grineer Slayer

After escaping from the hellish slave cells, these escaped slaves armed themselves with what they could find in their work stations before leaving with the Ghosts. With weapons like the Rahk drill turned rifle and the Klark crowbar turned weapon, these Slayers are adept in killing off Grineer from a distance before closing the gap and beating the remainder into a pulp.

<Again, bomb rush AI. Can arm standard Ghost weapons>

Weapons

Other than the existing Wraith and Vandal weapons and slightly modified Grakatas/Karaks/Deras/whathaveyous, the Tinkerers have their own set of weapons. Italics are Corpus based while Bold is Grineer based and will be used by the fighters on said tilesets.

*Sheev

Yes, I know half the community hates this weapon but it is a makeshift knife, a shiv, after all. Plus, this adds to most of what I think the Tinkerers would be like, their weapons makeshift or crude but they work.

*Gremlin

A single Gremlin nailgun. Unique to these guys only, after all, we Tenno get to dual wield them.

*Kindle

A Grineer Ignis that has been cut down/modified for more heat and shorter range. It is more blowtorch than flamethrower but it would do for the most part. Kinda like the Embolist in range but a little longer, perhaps. Not the best weapon for assaults but it would work for perfect defense, burning away even a Napalm's armour in a single second burst of flame.

*Rahk

A modified drill gun, considering that the Grineer want to be able to get some things done quicker, I think they might have made some sort of Frankenstein's monster between a drill and a harpoon gun.

*Klark

A crowbar with a bit of a heating element tacked on. A good alternative to the Machete and seriously, I wanna see a crowbar in WF.

*Kongre

A stirpped down Hind rifle, the Tinkerers who have nicked these guns from their fallen masters have ripped up these burst fire rifles and turned them into bullet-hoses for their machine gunners. Bearing the Grineer-esque organic shape, these assault rifles are meant for tearing up Grineer armour and most of the other soldier forces that they'd be up against.

*Rima

A pump-action shotgun that looks like it was made from a Dera rifle. Fires Detron styled laser buckshot.

*Plaga

A Corpus switchblade/USB thumbdrive thingy. Meant as a novelty amongst the Corpus civilians, these are used by the Hackers to screw with the Corpus machines.

*Diplomat

A civilian Corpus rifle made by the mass-producing arms factories around the system, now modified to be weapons of war rather than wall-hangers for the elite or just playthings for the profitable. These Tetra-esque rifles have been cut down and modified to suit a more mobile role amongst the Vandal Tinkerers as an assault rifle akin to their stolen/hacked Deras.

I'll add more when I think of stuff for these guys.

Great new additions both in art and painting descriptions.

The units and factions are starting to feel really cohesive now, to the point where I soon will forget they arent actually part of the game.

But this project is of great value, for the time when hubs and quests are implemented in the way Steve dreams - replacing events.

Note: Should I get the urge to model something in here, what should be my top priority?

I'll add a link to your post in the OP, though I might actually consider directly integrating some of those unit ideas into the Ghosts or Vandals.

At this point if they were added into the game as is they would be better defined and rounded then the Corpus or Grineer (actually part of the reason I made this concept was to add definition to them as well, learning more about our enemies through the eyes of our friends sort of thing) :P

As for your modeling you do what you please, though I would like to see some of your WIP's been completed so I could add them to the art list, you might consider finishing the ones that are closer to been done.

for number 3, Boris Kievsky is known to voice Spetsnaz announcer from Modern Warfare 2 & 3 as well as Dmitri Petrenko from Call of Duty: Black Ops (and also he voiced majority of Russian mooks in most of CoD game). I imagine that Viter sounds like Dmitri Petrenko but with less Russian accent. Also, For Eric Vale, justing thinking about Sanji from One Piece or Kasper Hekmatyar from Jormungand as the voice of Chaz Thrace.

EDIT: For everything else, I definitely with you, as I didn't expecting Viter to become a prominent character when I'm designing him in the first place.

EDIT 2: Or maybe Luci Christian for Cantis?

Haven't forgotten about this, but I'm incredibly busy with school work right now and haven't had much time to add on to this lately. As a note of interest content from this concept has showed up in some work done by other players:

The character 'Terrick' and the depiction of the Red Veil is based upon this concept in Morec0's voice acting bits:

Morec0's Voice Acting Thread

Zhon, Lyza, and the Vandals made an appearance in Kalenath's Fan-fiction "Weapons" which he just recently finished:

[Fanfiction] Weapons

I'll try to reply to some people here when have more time.

Updated Phoben units and added 1 new picture for Knife Fighter

I would expect Phoben NPC's to be mainly armed with Grineer type weapons, possibly making use of the Ceramic Dagger for melee or even a unique Phoben made dagger, they would have no armor or shields but have a particularly large health pool. Behavior wise they would make high use of cover and distance like sniper type enemies, and have very high accuracy compared to other NPC's.

Desert Skates should not spawn nearby Phoben fighters, for those that are already present the Phobens would be given a massive damage bonus against them that they would essentially one-shot any skate they come across.

For appearance I would imagine them to be based on Tusken Sand Raiders from Star Wars, and certain concept art drawn for Fremen from Dune, I actually would prefer them to use things like head and hand wraps and have a loose flowing desert robe rather then something like a stillsuit that the Fremen use.

Phoben Tribesman (with Grinlok):

xQYqAiA.jpg?2

Frontiersman

Armed with a Karak, the Frontiersman would share similar AI to the Grineer lancer, would however have greater accuracy then most NPCs.

Marksman

Equipped with the Grinlok rifle, Phoben Marksmen would behavior similarly to the Ballista or Crewman Sniper, however because it is only meant to exist in an NPC vs NPC capacity the Marksmen would be given much greater accuracy to a point where they would land almost every shot, possibly even be capable of landing headshots.

Knife Fighter

Equipped with the Ceramic Dagger (dual?), or a unique Phoben made dagger, the Knife Fighter would behave similarly to Butchers, taking cover/hiding until enemies got close before charging out in ambush. They would move at a greatly enhanced speed compared to other similar NPCs  and would have a much faster attack animation then the Butcher/Prodmans unwieldy swing, likely sharing some of the more basic dagger/dual dagger attack animations that the Tenno use.

Phoben Knife Fighter (Female):

e9CSjIL.jpg?1

Just throwing my idea out there:

There could be some kind of Phoben herdsman or something. If I remember correctly, you did mention something about Phobens taming desert skates and utilizing knives made of their tails.

Now, my idea is that the herdsman will spawn with three or so friendly skates, and in combat will direct these skates at the enemy. The skates will attack the enemy and return to the herdsman upon the enemies' death.

My best guess is that the herdsman will have similar health to regular tribesman, but they are less trained in combat, so they only wield a knobbly stick or cane to direct skates (and of course to thwack the occasional enemy that comes close, but obviously it won't do much damage)

When the herdsman dies, it's associated skates will attack and take revenge upon the unit that caused his death and then disperse into the sand.

Just a rough idea.

I am now a bit addicted to making t-pose images for modelling and reference purposes.

Probably will do just that starting with the Vandal punks and the by now pretty established units we have good concept art of as well as good unit description.

I want to post a request;

Can any of you talented artists paint a concept if a either Corpus or other habitat/station/city?

I mean interior, like a busy street, city skylines, etc.

I am not so great with architecture, and this would be awesome to see.
