Gyrard
That is our official designation given by the Orokin, as far as I can tell. Since "Tenno" are basically mute except for Valkyr and Rhino, and I guess Banshee if you wanna get really technical, we aren't really in any state to come up with our own name. Sixty5
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/587414/tenno That is the real world meaning, but in all honesty it is because someone at DE decided it sounded cool/fitted the game
APBladeX
Because we are Tenno. Tenno are Tenno. Players are Tenno.
Korista
I think we're named that after Hayden Tenno because of the whole Technocyte virus and void corruption.
Entari0
what little lore we have says that we are tenno. also, because The Lotus and DE say so.
gunsmoke77
Tenno has a ring to its name but what about a name like war gardens / warriors of fate / Overlords / for us to have.
Hexagoros
Hayden Tenno.
OniDax
Yep, Hayden Tenno. All Tenno, I believe, are like him, so I'm just betting that Tenno has becoming the name, or the way to classify, everyone like Hayden Tenno.

(PSN)IIIDevoidIII
Tenno is plural. 's never makes anything plural. We are called Tenno. I'd like to correct you: We use an apostrophe to create plural forms in two limited situations: for pluralized letters of the alphabet and when we are trying to create the plural form of a word that refers to the word itself. Here we also should italicize this "word as word," but not the 's ending that belongs to it. Do not use the apostrophe+s to create the plural of acronyms (pronounceable abbreviations such as laser and IRA and URL*) and other abbreviations. (A possible exception to this last rule is an acronym that ends in "S": "We filed four NOS's in that folder.") -Jeffrey got four A's on his last report card. -Towanda learned very quickly to mind her p's and q's. -You have fifteen and's in that last paragraph. http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/plurals.htm

JerZeyCJ
We are called Tenno because we are named after Hayden Tenno, the first Tenno. He was infected with the Technocyte virus and controlled it, which is what we do.
Rexlars
Tenno has a ring to its name but what about a name like war gardens / warriors of fate / Overlords / for us to have. I personally do not believe that Tenno are mute. I believe either they choose not to speak (as they are super space ninja grand masters that only need to speak with their BLADE) or communicate telepathically. Either that or they may have some sort of system in place within the helmets through which they speak & you just can't hear them from the outside. zoffmode
10 - 0 stands for Radio Check. Also sometimes Caution. So Tenno stands for "can you hear me?", "is radio on?" and "be careful".
ElHefe
@ zoffmode ... say I think you may be really on to something there! In APCO 10-0 also means "pursuit" and "death/dead" - rather appropriate for the warframes, eh? BUT ... (heavy sigh) ... more than likely this is yet another tantalizing cowinky-dink
