How Are 'my' Boltor Prime Builds?

Question

Hey everyone! I've been playing Warframe for a little while now and recently decided to start heavily gearing. I looked up some Boltor Prime builds and made them all (one for each major faction). I'd like to know if these are good and even if they could be improved upon! If you have some constructive advice, please let me know.

Here are the builds I found:

I'm a bit sketchy on which elemental type does the most damage to what (I've read the wiki and think I understand...but ugh), but if you can help me improve I'd much appreciate it!

Grineer = radiation/viral

Corpus = magnetic/toxin

Infested = corrosive/heat

Corrupted = corrosive/cold.

Always spec for heavy units first

Seems like that should be relatively easy to switch around. Thanks! Would like some further opinions before I go through the minor trouble of it though (even if they agree with you :P).

For Corrupted, the ideal build is also corrosive/heat, because of the 25% damage bonus on Heavy Gunner health.

Haha, I read about Shred and considered it, but I figured that I'd be better off with alternate mods. If someone makes a convincing case for me to use it over a different mod, then by all means I'll work on getting it.

the way i look at it, if im doing enough damage to one shot the enemy im shooting at, then i want that round to continue through my enemy into the enemy standing behind him, my boltor prime which sadly is only doing about 1.4k per shot  can mess up 3-5 guys in a line. plus i can shoot through doors if i need to if i see groups of enemies lining up behind it.

i must be the only person who uses shred.

Shred is not that good for Boltor Prime. The bolts "corpse toss" like bows so it already has Crowd Control. The fire rate only reduces ammo efficiency, and since it takes a spot that could be filled by an elemental mod, the DPS doesn't increase that much.

Ehh. The damage amplification is tiny, really only Corrosive and Puncture is going to do much due to armor mitigation. I'd rather have a more noticeable damage bump against Corpus and Lancer units.

OP: Those builds need Bane mods, and/or RoF increases.

actually with the way damage mods work now bane mods only effect the weapons damage not the over all total. so really using a +60% elemental damage mod is far more damage output then a bane mod.

Such as Bane of Grineer/Corpus/Infested? That would serve better than an elemental?

The thing about Shred is it's pretty much a fantastic, top choice mod for all assault rifles that are rapid fire except the Boltor Prime. Thing is since the bolts ragdoll enemies, there's a sort of innate punch through already on Boltor Prime, which you'll notice if you shoot a cluster of units.

Also, if you are going to go for faction specific builds, use Bane mods.

For example, on the Corpus faction build, replacing Infected Clip with Bane of Corpus will increase your sustained DPS from mid-16,000s to mid-17,000s. Similar things happen if you replace an elemental with a Bane of Grineer in your Grineer focused builds.

it does corpse toss but they dont punch through enemies like arrows do. im still ganna stick with shred as i can control my firing and dont spray an prey unless im really needing to save my life.

Nope. They increase the base damage, which then results in an increase to the elemental damage. Another way to look at it is as a separate modifier - they multiply all damage done by 1.3

Such as Bane of Grineer/Corpus/Infested? That would serve better than an elemental?

For example in the Corpus build using Bane of Corpus instead of High Voltage will result in a loss of 60 Magnetic, for a gain of 30 Base, 54 Magnetic, and 45 Toxin. You just won't see the effect in the arsenal.

Shred is a personal choice. I don't use it, but it can be helpful for pre-target penetration (shooting through cover) and more direct multitarget (corpses tend to go flying at angles, esp with HCal installed)

Infested build should be pure Corrosive, imo, now that all Ancients are priority targets and vulnerable to Corrosive. Drop Hellfire for Stormbringer and Wildfire for Bane - although you could keep Wildfire for the increased clip and tiny chance at fire proc.

Grineer build is wrong entirely (should be Rad/Viral/BaneorRoF) but the Void build is exactly what I use. With another Forma you can install Speed Trigger instead of one of the event mods, but then I would suggest installing Ammo Mut in place of the other for long missions.

Here are my builds. Mix and match with yours to fit your own style.

Corpus
Grineer
Infested (Alternate)
Void

There are a few wasted points I could use to put on a full Shred, but I'm fine with leaving it consistent across the builds.

If you lack any of the event mods, You can replace any of them with a bane mod for a faction-wide damage boost or with ammo mutation for longevity.

If you would like to increase your single-target damage even further, you can replace Shred with a bane mod instead (for 4 elements and a bane), but I like the affordable punch through because it gives any weapon decent effectiveness against crowds, especially in choke points. What you lose in raw dps is made up for by damaging many enemies at the same time, with the same bullets. That's just my opinion though. Ragdolled enemies only hit others for the amount of damage done by the shot that killed them (or a percentage of... or something. I read it somewhere and now only half remember) so hitting a whole row of them with each shot deals more total damage, all hits considered.

Though, tbh, if I'm playing really serious I bring the latron for crit headshots and ammo that lasts forever no matter how recklessly I throw it away

it really boils down to personal choice. i can definently see that ive chosen to lose some damage for more adventageous stuff like status chance and punch through, but it gives me ideas at the same time as what i can do better or work with.

i dont have my multishot ranked past the 75% chance mark as to me it feels like its multishotting all the time. i seriously going to max out hcal though seeing that it really doesnt effect accuracy that much.

im still going to use shred as it gives boltor prime punch through and a nice rate of fire increase. i still wont use a bane mod because a +90% increase to an elemental effect i feel gives far more then 30% increased to faction damage.

but honestly do w/e you want that you enjoy, its what ive been doing and it hasnt steered me wrong yet. i put seeker on my marelok and havnt looked back, thing is a beast with that mod on it.

Why kill one enemy per bullet when you can kill five?

Not to get too off topic, but I did the same plus crit mods on the Lex Prime.

Nope, I'm here. I am all for the use of shred, it is actually very very nice in my opinion.

@OP

Very nice builds you have going on there. I wish I could make my build like that, my issue is that I do not have the Tethra's Doom mod set, so I can't make an exact replica of your build, otherwise believe me I would.

Does the max Heavy Caliber have any adverse effect? Mine is at rank 8 now and I can still hit targets at a long distance.

It depends on the weapon. It's okay on the boltor because it wasn't showing off exceptional precision anyway, and the travel time made long shots even more picky. I wouldn't put it on the Burston or Latron Primes though. Those are all about accurate shooting.

The boltor will be less precise, but not in a way that will be a problem for how most people will be using it.
