Cat_Jam
DDoS stands for Denial of Service and basically means the person using it is sending so much information that the victim cannot handle it.

vaugahn
Multiple people. Or a single person in control of multiple computer systems with different IPs to launch the attack with. Or a single person spoofing ICMP packets. Or like a dozen other ways they could be doing it. It still sucks D:

It still sucks D: But if it's a single attacking machine then it's really just a DoS, single attacker means it's not actually distributed.

Spoofing ICMP packets can be considered a form of DDoS because it causes multiple systems to flood the target. It's initiated from one computer though. I mean technically it's a DRDoS but whatever
ThaDoctah
Multiple people. Or a single person in control of multiple computer systems with different IPs to launch the attack with. Could also be 1 system using DNS reflection to seem like multiple (which is hard to mitigate).

It's initiated from one computer though. I mean technically it's a DRDoS but whatever IMCP packets are hardly a threat anymore, but spoofing packets doesn't make other computers start attacking, from what I read in your post, that's what you're saying. Depends on your system. Of course, I only have a passing knowledge of DDoS attacks so I could be wrong.
DrMeowmix
DDoS stands for Denial of Service and basically means the person using it is sending so much information that the victim cannot handle it. This makes many college lectures fall under that definition.
