Is There A Such Thing As Too Many Forma?

Question

I was talking in region and someone was saying that using a potato on anything is a waste unless something has 5-6 formas. Now, this confused me since I have a very effective ember prime build and it doesn't require even one forma. While looking up weapon builds, a common theme was using too many formas would lock the weapon into really being only good for one role.

So I have come to ask for your opinions. Is there a such thing as too many formas when it comes to using them to polarize a weapon or warframe? Is there a such thing as too few?

To me, I believe there can be too many due to the reason stated above. Can't say I believe in too few unless you don't have enough for your build yet.

Yes there is. 9 Formas. 8D

But seriously, if you have a 'god build' for a gun, as in, the polarities need all 8 forma slots for the build that kills anything and everything (Boltor prime and penta are such cases) then you can 8 forma if you want.

I enjoy flexibility, but some of my guns have interchangable aspects that are usually VVV- and then the rest I just really use blank, but D - v are acceptable for a 7 forma for me.

most formas i usually put is 3 except my synapse that baby is 6 forma because i already knew what i wanted to do with it and for warframes i usually only put formas for the Redirection or the health mod so i can have some for flexibility in my builds

Generally, prime warframes don't need as many, if any, formas. That is their whole selling point.

Weapons on the other hand need a good number to maximize, because most don't come with polarity slots.

Of course, the sooner you potato it, the easier it will be to train, and this goes for all weapons and frames.

In my most humble opinion, it's good to keep one or two slots without polarities just to have a bit of wiggle room on builds. Usually how it works out is you forma something three or four times for the "essential" mods for a warframe or weapon, and then diversify depending on what your build looks like. For example, Serration and Split Chamber are widely considered essential mods for rifles, so adding 2 or 3 v's and maybe a dash to most primaries is usually sufficient.

As to why this guy is saying you should put 5-6 forma on something BEFORE you potato it, why would you ever do that? Dealing with 30 mod capacity on anything while you level and re-level it from repeated forma is kind of silly. If you enjoy a weapon, slap a potato on it, end of story. It's also way more convenient and efficient to potato something prior to putting forma on it. If something is worth investing forma in, it's worth a potato.

It depends on the weapon. My Attica would need a fair amount of forma to be comparable to my Latron Prime which has only three formas to maximize damage and adaptability. There isn't a set "too much" forma but when you're doing it just for the sake of it then you might want to change weapons. In terms of that guy on region, he is largely mistakened as you'll need the potato for other purposes and to know what you need to polarize.

Using potatoes you instantly get 30 mod points that you can use freely. Each forma will save you only 5-7 mod points, you have to level them again each time, and your mod choice will be very limited.

That aside, spending too much forma means you spent too much time on a weapon/frame. Personally, i would just use the time to forma weaker weapon/frame just so i have more viable option to play with.
