I Have An Obscure/stupid Question. Control Methods For Pc

Question

I need to emphasize how odd and likely idiotic this is likely to sound ahead of time, I'll give that a moment to sink in.

Everybody good?  Yes, well there here goes.

I'm probably going to be downloading Warframe for PC and starting on that whole new jar of toast quite soonishly, however I utterly despise wasd / arrow key movement.  While Mouse aiming is fine and dandy, swapping from full analog to abysmal digital movement is going to suck, massively.

So what I want to know is this;  Is it possible to somehow rig up the controls in a way that would allow me to have a PS3, Xbox360, or generic controller and utilize its left stick + d-pad + bumper and trigger buttons with my left hand, and then utilize a mouse with my right?  Basically I want the best of both worlds even if I'd look like a nimrod holding a controller off to the side whilst utilizing a mouse to shoot things.

Is this possible in Warframe?  Hek, is it possible in any game?

You could, of course, just use your DS4. Like, the DS4 you use for playing it on PS4. Google DS4 Xinput Wrapper. It's the first thing.

Warframe doesn't ignore input from either side, so you can use your controller while using your mouse. I don't know what kind of crazy dexterity would be required for such a thing, but it is possible.

It woudn't be possible due to the fact that you have to be in one of the "setups", one for controller, another for M+KB. So you probably will have to adapt to the keyboard control or mess around with keybinding and see if you find something better suited for yourself.

Nevermind, looks like it is possible. Good luck on that tho, does not sound too practical

I play with an Xbox 360 controller on my PC, I'm with you I dislike WASD in most games. The controlls for the controller are quite nicely set up I think and they are already defaulted into the game when an xbox controller is connected, leaps and bounds better than what they are with the PS4 controller (I have PS4 aswell). You can hook up a PS4 controller but I don't remember at this point if you need third party software to do it or not.

I'm so goofily happy to hear that this is actually possible, so yay for oddness and thanks for the replies.  As far as it being wonky and .... well as aforementioned odd, I just want to go for it for the sake of doing so.  If I can manage the Rank 8 test on a controller without disabling "Hold Jump to Wallrun" as well as other stupid controller tricks I figure I can manage the dexterity for it.  Why play with just a controller if I already do that on PS4 Warframe right?

Now I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that I can still do inverted Y axis with a mouse, because I'm always weird.

You could try a Logitech G13, it's one of those hand sized keyboard controller things, but it has an analog stick as well. It pretty much is the best of both worlds as far as kbm vs gamepads go.

Though the analog stick that it comes with is kind of lousy, so it's generally better to mod it for a new one, which can be kind of a pain (it tends involve a lot of sanding unless you can find one of the few truely drop-in replacements). But it works pretty well once you're done, and for some games you kind of need the plethora of buttons a keyboard brings.

It's a bit frustrating that over all these years nobody has managed to come out with one of these things that just works great out of the box, especially since it's such an obvious idea, but at least a modded G13 gets close.

If you don't want to muck about with taking things apart, Razer makes something similar (their high end version is the Orb Weaver or something like that, there's a cheaper version without the ergonomic adjustments though, they're both evolurions of the old Belkin Nostromos), but it uses more of a d-pad thumb nub thing, which isn't great, but probably still better than the default stick on the G13.

Sorry for not linking to any of that stuff :/ but I'm doing this on mobile, so it's kind of a pain, at least maybe some of that is useful for you though.

No worries about the lack of links Aglethe, info is what I wanted and info is what you're throwing my way so that's gnarly.

I've never heard of the Logitech G13, but I'm not a big fan of modifying stuff, my luck and skill with physical components has always been pretty lousy so I tend to avoid that.  That isn't to say I won't look into it though, because that sounds cool.  My brother actually has an Orb Weaver, and while it does look interesting it's a tad shy of what I'm wanting in some ways, which is why this topic arose.

I think what you want to do is possible; it might even be quite easy. I've noticed that my keyboard & mouse controls aren't disabled while playing with a gamepad (I mainly use them for text/chat and menu selection), so I don't see anything stopping you from using the control method in your original post. (Note that you may be quite low on usable buttons with your setup, however, if your mouse doesn't have a lot of buttons on it.)

I'll try it out myself and let you know how it goes.

Edit: just tried out a mission with my gamepad in my left hand and my mouse in the right. I can say for certain that it definitely works. It's not my cup of tea, but it's definitely possible if that's what you want to do.

If you can find a gamepad that does not disable the mouse, it will work. As mentioned, you can also use DS4 and  a console controller and map the buttons accordingly. It will also be helpful to have a gaming mouse, so you can map some more buttons to the mouse.
