Planet Exploration? How Does It Work Now?

Im confused about the layout of the planets now, I don't know what order the missions go in.

 

On Phobos, do I need to work round clockwise to get to the boss, or can I just go counter-clockwise and through the dark sector, which is a lot faster, or do Dark Sectors not count towards unlocking adjacent missions?
