Demon-King-Lamb
So my girlfriend wants to volunteer for Free Geek. When you Volunteer 24hrs you get a free pc. And she want to be a Programmer with the knowledge of multiple scripting languages such as HTML and C++ Here is what you get FreekBox SpecsAdoption and Build Volunteers take home computers fitting these specifications. Intel: Core 2 Duo Processor Full-size, Mini or Micro tower 1 GB DDR2 RAM 80-160 GB harddrive DVD-RW optical drive onboard or 128mb PCI-e video card onboard or PCI sound card onboard or PCI 10/100 ethernet card Is it worth the Time and effort to get a free PC with these specs. Would it even run any type of Scripting tools other that Notepad C++ such as Microsoft VS 2013? I've used VS 2013 Express to build the C++ script for Unreal Engine 4. Took 1 hour to compile on my pc. (PSN)IIIDevoidIII
I'm not too PC savvy, but I do know that 1gb of RAM will seriously gimp you if you try to run heavy programs.
Rydian
If it's just for coding and light home use it'll work. But don't expect to be doing any 3D game creation or game playing on that.
CelticMoss
If she's going for high tech programming school you need a high spec computer
RainingTerror
You could probably get a machine with better specs for free (friend or families old spare PC)

infrno40
Nay, because your graphic card and RAM seriously needs more power. (at best you need 4gb of a DDR2 RAM and a 512mb graphic card) Edited August 21, 2014 by genthis
Demon-King-Lamb
Thanks for the info. Even I know it's weak but I was curious what some people around here thought about it. Well I could use it to test out my MO Submerged cooling system.
