How Do I Use My Kubrow?

When the update with the Kubrow went live, I was pretty happy and started the quest ASAP.

 

Then, during the incubation period, I heard about the upkeep costs, and my enthusiasm dwindled. I still wanted to finish the quest, because Lotus was nagging me every time I'd enter my ship.

 

Well, as soon as my pet Kubrow hatched, I gave him a name and put him back on ice.

 

I recently wanted to try him out, despite my dislike for all things that need an upkeep. After waiting the 3h for the poor bugger to thaw, I found... that I cannot equip him as a companion.

 

There's no mention of anything else that needs to be done, as far as I can tell. But at this point the furry friend is degrading, and I can't get him into a mission - so things aren't OK. What gives? Did I do something wrong?

Need to wait for him to mature (two daily resets) then, for your first kubrow only, do one last mission in the quest, to 'retrieve a collar'.

The collar is part of the quest. Make sure you activate the quest and do the mission to protect your kubrow.

 

Just need a matured Kubrow.

try using a control frame like nyx or vauban to defend your kubrow.

Loki is probably the best for keeping a just-grown-up-pup alive, using both Invis and Disarm to good effects.

 

At later stage, Valkyr is the best dog-walker imo, after you get Link-Health, Link-Armor and Pack Leader. Then Valkyr can just go on her normal rampage without concern for the dog.
