Dwei- Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) Had a great idea concerning a new feature for combat. When stunned from a standard melee attack, the player is able to grab (pressing a designated key) and is able to do different types of grabs depending on their warframe. Some rough ideas below on possibilities on grabs that seem somewhat appropriate, respectively. Warframe Specific Enemy Interactions: (mostly grabs) (should probably use energy) Loki -Grabs an enemy, killing them, and assumes his kill's appearance, taking away all aggro from enemies Rhino -Grabs an enemy by its shoulders, rips the body in two and throws the parts, doing damage/knockdown to anything hit. Volt -Grabs an enemy by its head and pushes it to the ground, releasing an electrocuting shockwave around Ash -Able to grab an enemy and use him as a shield while shooting with pistols, able to move slowly @ crouch speed. The meat shield absorbs all damage if aimed at attackers Mag -Grabs an enemy and magnetizes them onto its back, forming a meat shield from its blindside (could possible use magnetics to shoot their weapon as well randomly backwards Trinity -Stabs an enemy in their stomach/etc, and kills them, dropping a red healing orb for teamates to use. Excalibur -Stabs an enemy and continues to move forward, skewering more and more bodies onto his melee weapon (or javelin perhaps) using those bodies as a shield Ember -Grabs an enemy's face with her palm, burning their entire body until it turns into ashes. She then releases a quick heat wave around her. Edited January 13, 2013 by Garuda1
Menoetius Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I like it! Cool idea, although the insta kill and defense seems overpowered, perhaps they could fill the execution niche.

True... it might break the game. Perhaps the players are only able to dk grabs when the enemy has 20% health left on humanoid and non-boss enemies.
Ronyn Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 The first place i see grabing mechanics being well implemented are in stealth attacks against enemies who you cant kill in one hit. generally speaking its not smart to wrestle with an enemy when fighting multiple attackers. because by holding one guy you cant properly react to others. games often overcome this problem by making the AI just stand there and whatch while you perform the grapple move. That just leads to the feeling of bad AI. Now fast grabs that go straight into throws can certainly work. But there will always be the question of could there have been a strike, that doesnt tangle you up, to do the same effect. However, in stealth encounters, a single charge attack is great when it cuts the bad guy in two..... but one that doesnt kill the enemy leaves it able to turn and fight or alert his allies. When stealth becomes more viable far and wide we would do well to have a way to kill the heavier enemies in a single action. A more pronounced, stealth kill grapple animation would be very effective at dispatching such enemies without putting the player at risk.
shoudra Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I like the idea as well, to balance it out maybe make the timing of the skill long or it eats up a lot of the game "stamina" so it can't be spammed? Just thinking "out loud" right now.
